Here is a locally owned barrel, bought new from us in 1993 or 1994 with its parent 870 Express. Its owner stopped hunting due to illness, and we got it from him. Surface detractions are minimal, only a darkly toned and etchy place on the left side near the rib, and on the rib, between the third and fourth posts. We rate it as Very Good, close to Excellent, since less than 10 percent of the surface is affected. Bore and chamber are bright, clean, and excellent. Length is 28 inches, Ventilated Rib, and this barrel is threaded for any 12 gauge Rem-Choke tube. We are including a brand new Stainless factory Remington Improved Cylinder extended choke tube. This barrel will fit any 12 gauge 870, of course. The older models, however, whose magazine caps require a détente ball will need frequent checking and tightening, because this barrel has no such detent. Also, the older 2 3/4 inch only receivers will not cycle 3 inch shells because of the position of their ejector inside the receiver. If your 870, or pre-Express Sportsman 12 Pump, was manufactured in 1985 or later, however, this barrel will work just fine. Replacement price on this barrel is upwards of $150 in our area.
