This Lyman Great Plains Rifle's date code is BB, 1992. Manufacturer is Investarm of Italy; importer is Lyman Products of Connecticut. Lyman Product code is 6031112. We and our friends in Mississippi sold literally hundreds of Investarm Hawken Rifles in the 1980s and 1990s, but only a handful of Lymans. This Lyman is thoroughly authentic and traditionally styled, extremely close to Mountain Man Jim Bridger’s rifle. Here is the factory’s analysis of this fine rifle from their site: Originally designed and built by such famous makers as Hawken, Gemmer and Demick, Great Plains rifles were the best and most reliable designs and finest workmanship available. No other factory assembled rifle or kit offers the authentic style and design of Lyman's Great Plains Rifle. This classic muzzleloader offers such high quality features as a 32 inch barrel with 1 in 60 twist for patched ball and hunting loads, double set triggers, Hawken style percussion "snail" with clean out screw, separate ramrod entry thimble and nose cap, and reliable coil spring lock with correct lock plate. Measurements are as follows. Barrel is 32 inch 1:60 twist, octagonal with 3/8 inch barrel flats. Overall length is 49 1/4 inches. It weighs 8 pounds 9 ounces empty, with its center of gravity under its rear sight. Wood is oil finished European Walnut with blue steel furniture. Note the curved steel buttplate and double wedge pin escutcheons. Double set trigger and screw are blue steel. Hammer and lock plate are Color Casehardened. Sights are original authentic early buckhorn style rear, dovetailed in with an elevation screw; and a dovetailed blade front sight. The barrel is correct brown finish, including the sights, pan, and thimbles. Bore and mechanism are bright, clean, and excellent. This rifle’s exclusive owner is a conservative, exacting maintenance staff member at the nearby Milan Arsenal, who finished it in collusion with senior Carroll County Gunsmith William Moore. Carl keeps his guns clean. Surface detractions are minimal, only faint amounts of edge wear and faint scouring on the tang piece. We rate this rifle as Very Good, perhaps even Excellent, 85 to 90 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Replacement pricing from Lyman for a finished Great Plains rifle is upwards of $800.00. We’re offering this one, however, for only $ 459.00. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> $20 flat fee lower 48 states; $60 Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico, UPS Ground with full insurance coverage.
