Here is a World War One era Colt 1903 Hammerless with lots of potential. Its 2553xx serial number dates it to the US’s first year in the Great War. It has virtually none of its original finish remaining, and one of the very stupid heirs to its deceased Texas owners sanded it. Lettering, however, is sufficiently well struck to warrant a refinish. The rampant Colt on the rear left side of the slide is sharp, as the photos show. Both grip panels are damaged, as the photos show. Its magazine release assembly is missing. Bore and mechanism, though, appear serviceable and intact. Safety operates properly, and we test fired one round in it – it hit the target and ejected the Remington fired brass very vigorously. In the hands of a competent gunsmith – and we are neither competent nor gunsmiths – this little Colt could resurrect in fine condition for another century of service.
