Description: No other rifle has contributed more to the institution of primitive weapons deer hunting than this one. The first Thompson/Center Hawken rolled off Mr. Warren Center’s production line in 1970, and this one was manufactured some time in the early 1990s by our estimate and from its 422,000 range serial number. Barrel is octagonal blue steel 28 inch with 1:48 rifling that works well for all three bullet types, round ball, sabots, and conical bullets. Overall length is 45 1/4 inch, and weight empty is 8 1/2 pounds. Stock is genuine American Walnut and this specimen has especially good figure to its stock, marble like vein layers and a couple of knots. Furniture from the ramrod thimbles to the buttplate is solid polished brass. Hammer and lock plate are rich color casehardened; and triggers are blue steel. The double set triggers make it easier to stay on target, since Pyrodex and Black Powder ignition is considerably slower than centerfire. Ramrod is the original walnut one. This is a locally owned rifle and its surface detractions are minimal. On the metal, there is only a small amount of fouling evidence near the stainless T/C nipple. There is a superficially pitted area, about 3/4 inch by 1/2 inch, on the top flats of the barrel surface near the position of the second thimble. Wood finish is strong throughout, with negligible scouring anywhere. We rate this .54 Hawken as Excellent finishwise, since no more than 10 percent of its surfaces are affected by our estimate. Photos, however, should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. We detect a small amount of light pitting halfway down the bore, and less than 5 percent of the bore surface is affected by our estimate. We still classify this Hawken as Excellent Mechanically. The .54 Hawken has been discontinued for several years. Replacement pricing on the currently produced .50 caliber is upwards of $800 in our area, if a person can even find one. We’re offering this one, however, for only $ 419.00. Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
GA Pay buyers are NOT charged until we confirm we have the item and are ready to ship it. The same thing is true for phone-in, fax-in, and mail-in payments. In this respect, and in several others, Guns America outshines all its competitors. This is the best firearms website there is, hands down.
