The M&P15-22 is a dedicated M&P15-format rifle designed and built as a true .22 LR semi-auto from the ground up, but with all the standard operating features and accessories seen in a modern-version centerfire M&P15. Smith & Wesson packs into the M&P 15-22 the best features and options that have evolved in the AR design over the years. Built around S&W's own high strength polymer upper and lower receivers, this model boasts a 16" blue carbon steel barrel with 1 in 15 twist rifling and an A1-style compensator mounted at the end of the threaded barrel. A 6 position collabsible stock provides solid comfort and stability for any shooting position or tactical situation. A2 dual-aperature sights, which are fully adjustable for both elevation and windage, are mounted on a flat "Picatinny rail" upper receiver which greatly simplifies mounting popular scopes, holosights, or other optics on the rifle. The front sight unit is also mounted on a short length of Picatinny rail. A light-weight, high-strength, full-length polymer quad handguard provides even more flexibility for mounting accessories. Controls, which are identical to the mil-spec AR15 platform, make the M&P 15-22 ideal as a low-cost tactical trainer. Mil-spec controls include a functioning charging handle, 2-position receiver mounted safety selector, cartridge case deflector, recessed mag release button, and standard bolt catch. The overall color scheme is business like matte black, and the rifle comes with one 25-round hi-cap magazine with thumb assist knob to help with loading.
