This is one of Art Alpin's (A-Square) express rifles in 425 Express. A-Squares are noted for their ability to handle large caliber loads without the resultant recoil. They are big and beefy, tough enough for any conditions. Art's rifles are not for the lover of engraving, exhibition wood, and dainty calibers....they are pure, powerful hunting machines.
I've had 7 or 8 A-Squares over time, and this is the last one to go. I've never fired this rifle, and I don't believe the original buyer, an elderly gentleman in Florida from whom I bought 3 A-Squares, had ever fired it either, so it's functionally new.
The 425 Express is one of the easiest and least expensive of the African calibers to buy or make. It is based on the 300 Win Mag, blown out and necked up. Ballistics are a 400gr .423 bullet (same as 404 Jeffery) at 2,400 fps...same as a 416 Rigby, 416 Rem, etc. You can either order dies from Huntington and "roll you own", or order loaded ammunition from Superior, Conley, or one of the other custom ammo companies, and it will be far less than the factory loads for 416 Rigby, 470 or 500 NE, 505 Gibbs, etc.
Although new , this rifle would sell for about $4,300 or a bit more, I got a good deal when I bought the 3, so I'll pass that on with this one. Get a strong, durable, powerful African safari rifle for about half price.
Price is firm.
