Description: General Specs: Winchester, Year 1892, .45-70, 9lb 8oz, LOP 13 1/8" Serial Number: 68036

How often do you find an antique Winchester Model 1886 rifle with tons of condition that is a TRULY HIGH CONDITION, FACTORY ORIGINAL, UNMOLESTED GUN? That is what we have here in this Winchester Model 1886, sn68036 built in 1892, that is fully documented with a Cody Firearms Museum information sheet. This M1886 has all the most desirable features you want to find in a standard rifle, ie 26” full octagon barrel retaining 95% factory blue with edge wear, with a minty, near perfect bore (rate it 9.8 out of 10, amazing for a black powder era rifle), full magazine tube with 98% factory blue, vibrant factory case colored action showing 75% coverage with bold colors on the sides of the action and fading on the top and bottom, perfect original screws, lever and hammer retaining 95% factory case color turning patina, wood finish still factory original and almost all there with whiskering of the finish in areas, no splits or cracks in the wood, butt terminating in the factory crescent steel buttplate. Add in the highly desirable .45-70 caliber and you have a cowboy’s heavy-hitting treasure. Winchester Model 1886 rifles in this condition are seldom seen for sale. When considering the investment quality of this rifle keep in mind that the full octagon barrel with full magazine is more coveted than a round barreled gun in the same condition, that antique rifles are more valuable than post 1898 rifles, cased colored rifles bring considerably more money than rifles with the blued receiver that came standard after 1900, and finally that FACTORY ORIGINAL, UNMOLESTED RIFLES ARE ALWAYS WORTH A PREMIUM OVER ANY THAT HAVE BEEN RESTORED IN ANY WAY…INCLUDING THE WOOD. The final matter of value relates to the bore condition. Antique rifles commonly have mild to moderate (or worse) pitting in their bores due to the corrosive nature of the black powder cartridges of the day. Many collectors enjoy shooting their vintage rifles at game or targets, so bore condition matters. THIS RIFLE HAS THE BEST BORE I HAVE EVER SEEN ON AN ANTIQUE RIFLE, NEARLY AS NEW. All these considerations differentiate this rifle AND ITS VALUE from others offered for sale at lower prices, or at times even at higher prices. Rifles like this Winchester don’t surface often, so don’t hesitate to own this gun now. Give us a call today before it is gone! Thanks for looking.
