Here is a great little takeoff on the Beretta model 21, the Taurus PT-22 Pistol chambered to hold 9 rounds of .22 LR ammunition. It is full time double action, yet it has a positive lock side safety. For added security, this Taurus is equipped with a Magazine Safety, meaning that it cannot be fired even with a live round in the barrel and the main safety off, not until the magazine is re-inserted. An added safety feature is the Beretta type tip-up barrel that allows easy loading and unloading without racking the slide, something many of our fellow boomers are no longer able to do with the onset of Arthur – itis, that is. Add the internal lock on the backstrap, and this little auto pistol even out-safeties traditional Smith & Wesson, Browning, and Bersa Autos for safety mechanisms, a total of four. Add the light weight, 13.5 ounces empty, and a person has one of the best small autos you can buy. This one came from one of our fellow Tennesseans from Davidson County, and it has seen service the way these were intended to see it – in a person's pocket. It has light to moderate contact wear on its frame backstrap, sharp edges, and on its Goncalo grip panels. We rate it as Very Good, Excellent Mechanically. It is in its original box with its manual and one key to its internal lock. Its slide has near full strength purplish hued finish, very similar to the classic pocket Berettas of the 1950s and 1960s. It is excellent mechanically, and came to us clean. This little pistol is not only attractive, it is eminently serviceable. We recommend Federal or Winchester copper coated ammunition for these, like our Federal Game-Shok Hyper Velocity that we have on sale. These PT-22 Tauruses are as scarce as any other pistol nowadays.
