HG7472 As soon as the Astra Cub series pistols hit the market in 1954, shooters immediately recognized their quality. That included a number of US Soldiers stationed in Europe. Colt Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company began importing the Astra Cubs in 1958, marketed simply as the Colt Junior. From this little specimen’s 18,500 range serial number, it was manufactured in 1962. Type is blowback semi-automatic pistol. Manufacturer was Astra Unceta y Cia of Guernica, Spain. Importer was Colt of Hartford Connecticut. Construction is all steel, with blued steel finish to the slide and frame, white steel barrel, guide rod, smooth faced trigger and commander style hammer. The grip panels are domestic U.S. Walnut with Colt logos. Magazine is steel construction, entirely chrome plated, and holds 6 rounds of .22 Short caliber ammunition. Weight empty is 12 ounces. Barrel is 2 1/4 inch, and chambered for .22 Short only. Overall length is 4 3/8 inches from the muzzle to the end of the grip frame strut; and height is 3 3/8 inches from the top of the rear sight to the magazine floorplate. Surface detractions on theis specimen are minimal to moderate, principally faint whitening on the muzzle edge of the slide, and safety lever contact on the left side of the slide. Grip frame exhibits a small amount of freckling to the blue finish that is not conspicuous. We rate this Junior as Very Good, perhaps even Excellent, 85 to 90 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is certainly excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Box has been repaired and the serial number portion of the label is missing, so this is likely not the original box, but it is a period correct factory Colt box for a Junior pistol. Warranty card is original and never executed, and the production manual is original as well.
