Since the standard line Mossberg 500 lost its Walnut by 1974, this New Haven 600At was likely manufactured between 1970, when the company adopted double slide bars, and 1974, when the 500 itself became essentially the same as this New Haven. This one sports a polymer trigger group and safety lever; all else is steel and hardwood. This is a local shotun, a veteran of the rabbit thickets and bottom land of West Tennessee. It has seen moderate use in the field, but not excessive use, since over half the bluing is still intact on its slide bars and magazine tube. Bluing on the barrel and gloss black anodized receiver both will fetch Very Good status, and the extensive scouring and scuffing on the buttstock and forend still leave about 70 percent of the original glossy finish. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are bright, clean, and excellent. This is the classic bead sight plain barrel variant of the Mossberg 500 shotgun, and note that its owner installed a fashionable hi-viz green fiber optic sight. Since it is 3 inch capable, this shotgun is certainly up to the task of downing difficult game birds like our abundant Wild Turkey.
