This Colt NM is a REAL, pre-1957 pistol. The serial number is C164xxx. The original Colt NM had serial numbers somewhere in the range C162000 (1932) and C215083 (1940). According to the owner this was built in 1933. So, this is the real deal, with some modifications. Original frame, slide, and NM barrel (see pix).
During the period when these firearms were manufactured,
you actually had to win a National Match. According to
the owner, this firearm stayed in the vault at Colt until
1950, when the firearm was issued to the winner of the
1950 National Match.
Appears to be fully functional.
Quality of frame and slide are quite good with
some clear rub marks but no major scratches.
Bluing is intact except in lower front portion of slide
and a light mark on top of slide in front of rear sight.
Trigger has been worked on and has some follow through.
Lands and grooves are not particularly good but visible.
Front and rear sights are Pachmyr sights installed by
Pachmyr Gun Works in Los Angeles.
Trigger is original but is covered by a competition shoe
that gives more surface area to the trigger finger. This
shoe was also installed by Pachmyr Gun Works.
All in all, a real collectors item.
