Winchester Model 21 20ga. 3” MAGNUM, FACTORY 28”, AL BIESEN STOCKED
What a great and capable Winchester we have here! Built in 1955 and in 3” magnum chambers with very hard to find 28” barrels, this is the bird hunter’s dream. Versatile enough for all of your upland birds, waterfowl, and even turkey and with the renowned M21 strength there are no worries about shooting magnum loads. This fine shotgun was restocked by the firm of famous stock maker Al Biesen who created Jack O’Connor’s famous and most favorite rifles. The checkered skeleton butt plate and well pointed diamond checkering are distinct trade marks of Biesen’s that caught the famous gun writer’s attention in the 1940’s. O’Connor’s guns did not sit in a safe, but were used profusely and the checkering offers a good grip in cold wet weather frequently encountered afield. This gun, serial number 27795 comes with Cody Firearms Museum data sheet documenting that the gun is unaltered since it left the factory with the exception of the fine European straight gripped stock and a factory correct restoration of all metal.
The 28” barrels retain 99% blue, have jeweled barrel flats and breech face, no dents or dings, internal bore diameter of .615, minimum wall thickness of 29 thou, choke M/F and stamped as such (.010/.023 which are factory spec for Winchester M21’s), mirror bores, 3” factory chambers, tight ribs, double white beads, barrels tight on breech face and hinge like a new gun, all in excellent condition.
The action has been reblued to Winchester correct finish, action tight with lever centered, excellent screws, single selective trigger, 99% trigger guard blue, long tang trigger guard, water table and breech face jeweled finish looking like new, all in excellent mechanical condition.
The wood is English walnut with oil finish in excellent shape with no splits cracks or repairs, LOP of 14” from rear trigger to checkered skeleton steel butt plate, 2 ½” drop at heel, 1 ½” drop at comb, neutral cast (stock can be altered to your specs within 10 days of purchase and for a small fee). This stock is gorgeous and to have a Winchester restocked by the world famous writer Jack O’Connor’s favorite and well publicized gun stocker is like having a piece of Americana in your gun cabinet.
Weighing in at 6lbs. 10oz. and balanced just right in hand, the gun is a delight to shoulder. In fact, it handles like a little 6 lb. double and you have the mighty action and a perfectly laid out stock to absorb the recoil of your heavy pheasant and duck loads as you use this gun afield. The gun would be the consummate clays gun as well, and certainly an good investment in a classic American double shotgun.
