The A.H. Fox XE Grade is truly one of the most handsome American doubles ever produced, with its deeply carved oak leaf engraving on the receiver and barrel wedges, long elegant forends with the buffalo horn inlay cut to a slight schnabel, rebated frames to keep the head of the stock from spreading, frame filed to the shape of the barrels all the way to the top rib, locking screws on the top action screw, delightful checkering on Circassian walnut stocks, all coming together to make a stunning double shotgun. The XE Grade Fox came standard with ejectors and a Silvers pad, and special attention was paid to the chambers, bores, and chokes to create a highly refined shooting machine. This 1916 gun, sn23689 is no exception. Factory production card confirms the gun is in the same configuration as shipped, except for the Fox Kautzky single selective trigger is not mentioned on the card (but is definitively factory original) and the 2 3/4" chambers. All else, including the pad (present pad is a genuine Silvers replacement, gun shipped with Silvers pad but it was mushroomed), barrel length, stock, and chokes, are as shipped from the factory. THIS GUN IS A VERY HARD TO FIND, MOSTLY UNMOLESTED, FOX XE.
