Parker CHE 20ga. –BEAVERTAIL, ORIGINAL FACTORY CONDITION, LETTER
This is a rare Parker made in 1930, sn235660, in really great condition and an unusual configuration. There were 192 total CHE 20ga. guns produced, with only 174 made with nitro steel barrels, and 149 with Acme Steel. It is likely there are only about 30 or so ever made with a factory original beavertail. In addition, this gun has a unique, factory applied checkering pattern on the forend that I have never seen. At 7lbs., this is a perfect gun for sporting clays or any other volume shooting like doves, pigeons, waterfowl, etc. as the extra weight will greatly reduce felt recoil, keep your barrels moving on those crossing shots, and the beavertail gives great purchase for your lead hand. What a great “tool” to have in your battery of fine shotguns, and what a great investment quality Parker with its rarity and unique features.
The 28” ACME STEEL barrels have mirror bores, choked SK/IM (.002/.024, can be altered to your specs for $60 per barrel), internal bore diameter .615 each barrel, minimum wall thickness of 30 thousandths right, 33 thousandths left, 98% factory barrel blue, no dents or dings (two 1/8” rubs on left barrel), ivory mid bead, unique brass front sight, barrels tight on breech face and hinge, really a great set of barrels.
The action retains 60% fading case color, excellent screws, action tight with lever centered, clear sharp engraving with a unique shore bird on the bottom plate, double triggers with crisp pulls, trigger guard faded to brown, super strong ejectors perfectly timed. This heart of the working gun is in perfect mechanical condition.
The nicely figured wood with lots of fiddleback retains most of the original finish, excellent checkering, trap style beavertail with extra factory checkering, no cracks, splits, or repairs, 14 ¼” LOP to a vintage Hawkins pad, 13 ¼” to the end of the wood, 2 1/8” drop at heel, 1 ½” drop at comb, neutral cast, excellent wood to metal fit. Stock dimensions can be altered to your specs within 10 days of purchase. Awesome!
The Parker shotguns in 20 gauge are in high demand from the VH Grade to beautifully adorned works of art like this CHE. Fine factory finishes, beavertail forend, special order checkering all add up to a grand investment opportunity as these rare guns are continuing to grow in demand and value. With the popularity of vintage side by side shoots, this gun is even more desirable, as heavier 20 gauge guns make for better, smoother, and more consistent swings. At just under 7lbs., it is still lighter than most 12 gauge guns by a long shot, so it is equally at home in the field. Don’t let this rare Parker pass you by!
