Bernardelli (Vincenzo) matched brace of lively 12 gauge game guns with spectacular engraving by Italo Bonomi. Originating from the Robert E. Petersen collection, this consecutively-numbered pair (2422/2423) are built on Bernardelli's Holland & Holland-style detachable seven-pin sidelock actions, each in turn supported with an extra set of fitted and engraved locks. Dimensions are both attractive and identical. Weights are 6.6 pounds, barrels are 26-inches (2.75-inch chambers, fixed IC/M, single brass bead, game rib, ejectors). Lengths of pull are 14.25 inches, DACs are 1.5 inches, DAHs are 2.5 inches and casts are approximately .375 inches (off). The full-coverage Bonomi engraving is an elegant combination of bouquet, scroll and ribbons extending along the forend furniture, wrapping the trigger guards and running along the top levers and tangs. Each gun's number appears in gold on the rib, forend latch and top lever, with "SAFE" also in gold. Initials "REP" appear on the brass toeplates. The engraver's signature is found under each guard. Conditions are nearly pristine. Gun number 1 (2422) has a tiny chip from the upper left rear of the forend, as well as a small finish rub at the rear center of the forend's bottom. Additionally, some of the checkering at the wrist (upper left) is slightly flattened. Quite likely, all these things caused by case wear. Gun number 2 (2423) has a small metal imperfection on the left barrel some five inches from the muzzle (either a polishing mistake or small ding that appears to have been there prior to bluing and not visible when looking through the bore) but is otherwise absent visible flaws. Additional features include single non-select triggers, checkered trigger face, bushed strikers, jeweled flats and water table, 26 lines-per-inch checkering on splinter, wrist and butt, articulated screws and cocking indicators. The original certificates of completion are also included, as is the maker's fitted leather case with the previous owners initials on outer lid. Price firm. Layaway considered.
