From its 17 serial number prefix, this fully traditional Marlin .30-30 was manufactured in 1983. This is a locally owned rifle, and it has been hunted more than it has been fired. Scope is a 1980s Tasco 4x32 Pronghorn with Duplex Type Crosshairs, mounted with Steel Top Weaver See through rings. Sling is Winchester brand with pliable foam and nylon center. Rifle Manufacturer, of course, is Marlin Firearms of North Haven, CT. Construction is blued steel parts, white bolt, and American Walnut Buttstock and forend. As far as specs, type is lever action repeating rifle, tube fed. Capacity, of course, is 6 + 1 rounds of .30-30 Winchester cartridges; barrel is 20 inch Micro-Groove blue steel with traditional folding factory Buckhorn type adjustable rear and hooded white bead front sight; weight is 7 pounds empty; action is lever-action repeater; and this Marlin, is one of the first to have the cross bolt safety in addition to its lever safety. Length of pull is 13 3/8 inches from the trigger face to the end of the buttplate. Overall length is 38 3/8 inches. Gross vehicle weight is 8 pounds, with center of gravity at the forend to receiver junction. Surface detractions are moderate, principally finish freckling on the barrel and scouring on the stocks. Some of the barrel’s surfaces are browned from weather. We rate this Marlin as Good, 70 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is Excellent mechanically, however. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Scope is excellent mechanically as well.
