Turkish gunmaking is as old an art as anywhere, and here is a very well made specimen of World War II production from Ankara, the Turkish 98 Mauser. Construction is all steel, as good as anything the Europeans have built. Barrel is 30 inches, with overall length of 49 inches, longer than the German counterparts; yest the center of gravity is between the rear sight and barrel ring. This rifle is all original; its bolt number is different from the receiver serial number, 29000 range. 1940 manufacture date is above the factory lettering on the receiver ring. Metal finish is white with small amounts of bluing and brown patina, very smooth wth minimal amounts of superficial surface pitting. Wood is original Turkish Walnut, plain oil finish with moderate scouring overall. We rate this Turkish Mauser as Good, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is Excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Century Arms Georgia VT stamping is on the right side of the barrel’s forward area.
