Here is an eminently collectable specimen of the Argentine descendant of the Colt 1911, a Ballester-Molina/Hafdasa .45 ACP pistol with Policia Federal markings that was issued to the Argentine Federal Police in about 1947, from its 63000 range serial number. Barrel and slide serial numbers match, but those are not the same as the frame number, and this is normal on these pistols. The Ballesters did not, of course, always have a grip safety, and this one does not, only its original main safety for right hand shooter. This specimen has undergone more than one refinish, but its lettering is still strong. Grips are Argentine hardwood, replacement but same configuration as the original. Surface detractions are extensive, with about equal parts arsenal bluing, brown patina, and gun metal gray. Its only alien marking is the Sarco Importer Stamp on the forward bottom area of the frame, as required by US Law. We rate this Argentine .45 as only Fair, perhaps Good / Refinish; photos, at any rate, should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. It is mechanically sound. Lateral play to the slide is minimal, really no more than many of its US Made 1911 peers of this period. Hammer stands and safety engages correctly and tightly. Bore shows etchy residue in the rifling grooves, but no conspicuous pitting, and the rifling lands are strong as the photos should show. This is a good steel frame pistol, and it is eminently collectable for its connections to the World War II era and to South American History. It is definitely C&R status, and transferable to California civilians as a federal-status relic. We're offering it for only $ 379.00.
