HG162430 Photos show a specimen of the best carry variant, according to our late previous proprietor Wayne Robertson, of all J Frame Smith & Wesson Revolvers, the .357 Magnum Chief’s Special Stainless with 3 inch full lug heavy barrel and black ramp adjustable sights. This revolver embodies the fifteenth engineering improvement for the Chief’s Special Stainless, numbered model 60, introduced in 1965. Frame is J designation Magnum Frame, capable of handling any .357 Magnum load, or any .38 Special for that matter. Capacity is 5 rounds of either caliber; action is traditional double- and single-action with both transfer bar internal safety system and Smith & Wesson’s patented internal lock with two keys. Both hammer and trigger are Case Colored MIM, Metal-injection-Molded. Hammer is .240 serrated spur service width, and trigger is .312 smooth faced combat type. Grip frame is Round Butt, and grips are factory Smith & Wesson J Finger Grooved combat. Weight empty is a well balanced 24 ounces. The full lug 3 inch barrel points better, has a better sight radius, and develops more energy and velocity than the more common 1 7/8 and 2 1/4 inch barrels. Of all smaller sized double action revolvers, this is the easiest to hit with and produces less felt recoil.
