13-Year-Old Fatally Shoots Would-be Burglar Using Mother’s Gun

2nd Amendment – R2KBA Authors Defensive Use of Firearms S.H. Blannelberry This Week

One bad guy is dead and another has been arrested after a 13-year-old boy used his mother’s firearm to thwart a home invasion, reports Fox Carolina.

Authorities say that around 1:53 p.m. 31-year-old Lamar Brown and 28-year-old Ira J. Bennett attempted to break into the teen’s home in Woodside, South Carolina.

Fearing for his safety, the boy grabbed his mother’s “Colt .45 pistol” and opened fire on the suspects.

“He saw a subject out back trying to get inside so he fired his mother’s gun through the door and the subject reportedly fired back,” CCSO officials said.

After the exchange of gunfire, the suspects fled the scene to Trident Hospital. Brown sustained three gunshot wounds, which proved to be fatal. Meanwhile, Bennett told the hospital staff that they had been the victims of a random shooting.

Of course, that story didn’t hold up for very long. Once the home invasion was reported, it didn’t take long for police to figure out what had really happened.

Bennet was taken into custody. He was charged with first-degree burglary and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

The teen was shaken up by the incident and wants the whole ordeal to be over, according to the mother. He was not injured during the shooting, thankfully.

An investigation is still ongoing.

Hopefully, this story makes national headlines, but I doubt it will. Most instances of defensive gun use go unreported by the mainstream media. Apparently, when good guys with guns eliminate scumbags it’s not newsworthy. But any time a scumbag with an illegal gun takes an innocent life it gets not only ink, but a narrative about how evil guns are and how woefully lax our gun laws are. Clearly, this story doesn’t fit that agenda. But who knows, maybe I’m wrong, maybe we’ll see it on the nightly news.

I don’t know what the laws are where they are but in Ohio the other guy who survived would be charged with murder since his buddy died, even though he didn’t shoot him.

This is exactly the kind of “all’s well that ends well” kind of story that I read about monthly in my NRA magazine, the “American Rifleman” under “The Armed Citizen”. These are exactly the kind of stories that I love that get printed. Try writing and submitting it to them. Here’s a link that I found online, ” http://www.americanrifleman.org/the-armed-citizen “. I get mine monthly in paper form.

The criminals would probably have killed this child since he could identify them. Every person in America has trhe potential to be put in the same situation and they would either become a victim or make the “badguy” a victim. I loved the statement obama made after the shooting in Oregon; “No other civilized country experiences the type of violence seen here.” The facts contridict his assertion. Just about every country on Earth is being struck with violence and killings. The difference between them and America, is that most citizens can defend themselves and are not going to be “lambs at a slaughter.”
I just hope that every law abiding citizen takes the time to stand up for their 2nd amendment rights and vote to prevent hilarious climton from becoming president. Don’t think it can’t happen.

Guarantee you the anti gun fanatics will be all over the fact that a 13 year old had access to a firearm. Although I’m totally for what happened and agree the world is a better place without these repeat offenders in it. I will question how he was able to have access to it….

I agree with a trained 13 yr old having access to a firearm for defense… Training is the key, and of course, it depends on the 13 yr old! Apparently, this is a good kid who responsibly and affectively used his right to bear arms!

When I was 13 I was already instructed in the proper handling of a rifle. And had my own to hunt with. That approach worked well then, and works well now. If there’s a firearm in the house, everyone with access to it, that is capable, should know how to safely handle it.

“But who knows, maybe I’m wrong, maybe we’ll see it on the nightly news.”

Nope. You’re not wrong. It might pop up on local news somewhere, but it won’t get any significant coverage for reasons you’ve already mentioned. People don’t want to think; they want to be told what to think. Sir Joshua Reynolds once put it beautifully: “There is no expedient to which a man will not resort to evade the real labor of thinking.”

There are two things everyone should know.
    1. How to safely use a firearm.
    2. How to drive a standard shift vehicle.
Both may be needed to save a life one day.

My hat is off to mom for teaching her son about guns, and how to defend himself. I’m not allowed to say this on Concealed Nation, hence why I don’t go there anymore, but I’m glad another repeat felon is dead. Truly, I am, as that means he is no longer a threat to innocent members of society.
