Several months ago I ran across a pretty cool product that resembles the old snail mag for the Luger 9mm pistol. It is a 28 round 1911 mag, so I figured I’d order it and see how it goes. Then I forgot I had it, and last week I decided to break it out to give it a try. At the same time I ordered the Promag high cap stick mag for the 1911, and I see that listed as either 14 or 15 rounds. I tried 15, and that’s included in the video as well.
Personally I don’t waste a lot of time on high cap magazine gimmicks. I’ve had great luck with Chinese 75 round AK mags over the years, but other than that, non-standard high caps mags have been nothing but headaches. As you’ll see in the video, both of these mags are servicable, but probably not worth the trouble as a self defense tool. You’d be better off rally round the family with a pocketfull of shells than gimmick high caps lol. A pocketfull of 7 round mags for sure.
I hate when people jump on the bandwagon that drums don’t work good just repeating the same garbage they have no clue on decade after decade (especially supposed writers)… Drums have been working just fine for a century now… Sure there are some junk manufactures out there like Promag but this crap that is it’s round it doesn’t work is as dumb and ignorant as though that constantly repeat this myth.
I own several of those 28 Rnd. Mags.. I use them in my Rock Island 1911 and my Auto Ord. model, and have NOTHING like the difficulties described here. Try lubricating them with a small amount of graphite and getting them broken-in! Other than an occasional need to slap it on the fanny, it works fine. Much of the loading difficulty I witnessed in the video appeared contrived, too be honest. I have no such trouble with any of them and even use a speed-loader with them. Each to their own.
In my experience Pro Mag products are garbage. If you like practicing clearing jams and malfunctions these magazines are for you. I probably purchased around six Pro Mag Industries magazines. All but otwo were junk. In the past they did not back their warranty either.

I do not remember where I got them since this was back in 2003-2004 but I got ahold of 2 18 round magazines-actually take 19- for My P14.45, been trying to find them for a long time without luck. I also have 2 10 round mags that came with it.
Bwahahahahahaha…Promag. They should be forced to rename their company ‘Garbagemag’. Truth in advertising and all.

With time…people forget! It wasn’t that long ago the Brady Bill was in effect and it halted all manufacture of 10+ round magazines. These type of drums had just came out then and it killed their sales as well as other high-caps, It’s just 10 days until we know whom the next president is and if it’s Hillary she has already stated she’s going after guns. She won’t need anything but her signature to go after magazines as they are not “arms” covered in the 2nd. Stock up people! For those of you too young to remember $100 Glock magazines you should get out the Brady Bill and read it.
You don’t think Obama would have done it if he could? He hates guns, freedom and us every bit as much as the hildebeast. Still, I agree with you, if you need anything gun related it’s silly not to buy now.

If you are proficient with your weapon, I agree that you should deviate from the standard 8/10 round mags in a 1911, however if you want more rounds you can never go wrong with a Glock 21 or a Glock 41 Long slide 13+1??????
Take a g21 13rd and add a aredondo extension and spring and you got a reliable 16rd mag that’ll also work in a g30.
I own several of those 28 round drums now, and despite one that malfunctioned early-on, I actually LOVE the others! They require a bit of “breaking-in”, and an occasional dose of graphite lube is good for them, but once you get them “tuned”, they have proven themselves – too me – to be well-worth having. And I didn’t need any “instruction sheet”, I used my brain.
Thanks for the info. Mags that boast large additional capacity are interesting but normally fall short in performance. The only exceptions to this works in the 10/22.
Stick with the Chip McCormick 8 or 10 round mags- In my experience they work flawlessly.

But they’re collector’s pieces since Marlin discontinued them back a loooooong time ago.
The Camp 9 and Camp 45 (I’ve got 1 of each) are great guns. I found synthetic folding stocks and mounted a folding vertical grip on each forend and these are really cool shooters. Also, a while back I found a 40-round snail drum for the Camp 45. It’s just like this 28-rounder but bigger. Never understood why Marlin quit making them.
