Aftermath of employee fatally shooting alleged robber

Authors S.H. Blannelberry

A lot of pro-gun websites post DGU (defensive gun use) videos. And I think it’s great that we do because the truth is always messy, chaotic and in many cases emotional when we see it. It’s not like the movies. It’s a reminder that one can never be trained enough or prepared enough to deal with real time, deadly force situations.

Case in point, footage of a deadly shooting at a smoke shop in Albuquerque, New Mexico, that left an alleged armed robber dead and the victims emotionally distraught.

William Corrie, the suspect who was fatally wounded, went into the store and robbed it at gun point. He tied up the employees with duct tape and walked away with some cash. But for reasons that are not quite clear, Corrie reentered the smoke shop. That’s when one of the victims, who freed himself from bondage, shot and killed Corrie.

“What did I do?” says the employee in the immediate aftermath of the shooting, as the gravity of the situation weighs on him.

Later on, when speaking with investigators, the employee realized that he had no other choice but to use the firearm in self-defense.

“The second I saw him come back in, I just, I did what I had to do,” the employee says to police.

Sorry about “yer luck Chuck” Don’t try to rob people and you seldom get shot. May be a lesson here for someone else.

Sorry for his loss but he had a gun. What if he had shot the employee? Sorry ! But he scared the man to maybe his death, so as far as I’m concerned he deserved what he got.Sorry Michael but rest in peace !

As horrific an event as this actually is,I love to read where the good guys are the living victims instead of reading where the robber shot the victim in the head or something similar. We still have a long way to go to make those who do not believe in the 2nd amendment and the right to bear arms is important and once again, this is an excellent example of why we should be allowed to carry weapons.Someone has to counter the bad guys. With the ISIL thing as well as other groups intent on killing Americans,I will carry concealed and keep my AR-15 with me every where I go.The AR will remain in the car trunk of course but I plan to have firepower if something happens. You cannot expect our law enforcement to be everywhere and I feel it will be my duty to protect Americans until law enforcement arrive.I have already thought out scenarios where I would disengage as police arrive and lay down my weapons so as not to appear to be the threat.I do not take this lightly and as a former police officer,I realize how confusing things will be if such situation occurs here in the U.S..God forbid I hope not!

You nailed it Russ, the guy robbed the store at gunpoint. He was coming back to commit murder. ALLEGED? I think not.
He did it for sure, and for certain. And he got his just rewards. Here’s one criminal that taxpayers won’t have to feed and house for who knows how long, only to have him repeat offend. He was a complete and total waste of space and air. Good Riddance!

WTH is all this lame talk?
“alleged armed robber” He did it, why say alleged?
“But for reasons that are not quite clear, Corrie reentered the smoke shop” Figure it out dumbass, he saw a good opportunity to get rid of the witnesses.
“William Corrie, the suspect who was fatally wounded” He’s not suspected, he blatantly committed a crime and got shot dead for it.
This kind of beating around the bush PC talk bugs the hell out of me.
I was waiting to read “the gentleman succumbed to his wounds”.
Straight talk is needed to get through to the criminal minds.

AMEN !!! “Political-correctness” is a major problem in this country today and in my humble opinion makes other issues even worse. You simply can’t say certain things even it’s a proven fact and in no way your opinion – not that it should matter. At the same time there is a certain double-standard that applies. I’m a former law enforcement officer and now own a private security company. I have one account in particular that’s in a high crime area with predominantly black employees and customers – I can’t even begin to tell you the number of times every day/night I hear a certain offensive word being used BY blacks toward other blacks, both in a “jovial” way and in anger. To be clear, if any of my people used the same word they would be fired (black or white). Period. That said, the word simply shouldn’t be tolerated regardless of the user’s race. It can’t be treated like rape or murder when a white person says it, but blacks get a pass and use it at will. Just my 2 cents.

The difference between the criminal and the law abiding citizen? Remorse. This poor guy will need therapy to come to grips with his actions, that despite saving the life of himself and the other victims, will leave that indelible stain on his soul for taking another life. Good luck to him, and I hope he recovers fast. Godspeed, young man, you did well.

I was robbed at gun point a long time ago, and I still remember every detail, one that stands out is,I had my own loaded 9 m/m pistol, I didn’t shoot either of the two armed robbers, but I did stop them and held them until the police showed up about an hour later. The store employee is a victim and I am 100 percent behind them.
