Richard Austin Wyatt the owner of Gunsmoke Guns in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and the former reality TV star of “American Guns,” was arrested last Friday, reports local media.

Upon learning of the warrant, Wyatt turned himself in to authorities at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. He is being charged with theft from an at-risk adult, a class 3 felony.

According to the the Wheat Ridge Police Department, the elderly customer consigned “a rare and antique gun collection,” with Wyatt and “repeated efforts by the victim at recovering several of the weapons had failed.”

Police are now investigating to determine whether there were other customers who had consignment issues with Wyatt.

This latest development comes on the heels of a raid of Gunsmoke Guns on March 31 by the ATF and the IRS. While that search was “unrelated” to the claim by the elderly customer, agents recovered several of the man’s firearms.

Aside from being the owner of the gun shop, Wyatt was previously the chief of police in Alma, Colorado.

Richard Wyatt is a thief and cheater. I personally know someone who put a down payment on a gun and never got it. I confronted him about the Judgment issued in Jefferson County Court and he just laughed. Those who laugh last, laugh the best. Looks like I got the last laugh as he is now facing a 13 count Federal indictment. ha ha ha Mr. Wyatt.

Don’t pass judgment too quickly. He may be only guilty of procrastination since people with a big head often push other peoples priorities out of sight and mind. Just because he delayed responding to the man doesn’t mean it was a criminal act. Since he was a past police chief, probably many have an axe to grind. He does have a lack humility and charged folks 2 prices for the work he did and guns he sold. Some in the ATF and IRS have shown they are out to destroy many conservative Constitutional America loving individuals, for example many in power like Lois Lerner are out to destroy any non ultra liberal individuals and organizations. In the eyes of most elite smarter than everyone else liberals, one gun is too many and you must be a criminal. Yes the ladies were semi nice looking. The son is a whiner and got on my nerves.

Well the programs may have flaws and these people really need to be careful because their behavior unfortunately does reflect poorly on gun owners, we must remember that the government and especially the ATF don’t need a good or even legal reason to harass gun dealers or owners…It really has become a Big Brother police state…Just look around you..Every town and city has a swat team..Most of them are willing to shoot first and not get close enough to ask questions..They say that they just want to go home at night…but somehow it takes some of the personal touch out of police work and just seems to put us closer to a Fascist type state…I long for the days when police officers were looked upon as friendly and helpful..not someone who is efficient at taking you ” out.”……

      AMEN to every word!

  • Kane April 20, 2015, 11:02 am

I watched the show although maybe not as closely as others. I had no problem with Wyatt, his employees or his family. Though the shop was much better than the guy in La. I doubt any of these charges can be sustained. Is Wyatt really an example of what is wrong with America?

    • tom April 20, 2015, 12:10 pm

      Wyatt is a total scumbag.

      • Kane April 20, 2015, 9:39 pm

Oh that must be why he is being investigated.

    • grassroot May 1, 2015, 3:28 pm

Could be a Leftist sting operation, as they would stop at nothing to discredit these types. Too much exposure for our
      Fascist controllers.

If his lovely wife and daughter need to press those heaving breasts on somebody for comfort I volunteer !!

    • Jack Carter July 24, 2015, 8:16 am

Just don’t let them press too hard……………the saline bags may break.

  • Gary April 20, 2015, 10:12 am

These people who started all the gun shows are part of the problem. They brought stardom to regular people and the masses to there doors. Makes them targets for all antis in the country willing to do everything they can to bring us down. Wait for all the details before passing judgment , miss understandings can happen at any time. A mistake in a dealing is just that dosent make it a criminal act. Just a mistake but they will run it for all it’s worth. Yes the girls are hot on the show but it was a good show . Your not perfect in all you do are you???

    • Damon April 20, 2015, 10:20 pm

Nope, not perfect, but if someone gave me a gun to sell, then asked for it to be returned before I had sold it, you bet your ass I’d give it back.

  • Indagila April 20, 2015, 10:00 am

Sorry, I had the DUDE figured to be a Ned from the get go. I watched a couple times and was done with it. Not suprised really.
And as another commenter mentioned, both he and the guy from “Sons of Guns” have done the shooting populace a huge disservice and IMHO should forevermore be shunned. We need to hold our honor just a bit higher than the average bear.

  • Ron April 20, 2015, 9:27 am

This sounds a bit fishy to me. Let’s not draw any conclusions until the facts are established and released by the prosecutor of chief of police.

    • Mtn Yoda May 4, 2015, 4:23 am

You blame him for making money off people willing to pay or sell at high and low prices? They are good people who made good, honest money selling firearms that we all obviously care for. BATF is smoking too much of the pot they seize before Colorado marijuana was legal. It’s a funny thought! Fishy it is…

  • Blasted Cap April 20, 2015, 9:23 am

Can’t stand his new show either. Especially how he refers to himself as an “Industry Icon”.

    Looks good in orange though.

    • Kevin April 26, 2015, 8:57 pm

At least Modern Shooter seems to have episodes that do not include Rich Wyatt. My wife and I could not help but shake our heads in amusement over the “Industry Icon” bit.

  • Mike April 20, 2015, 9:12 am

Read the last sentence.” He was the Chief of Police”. Just saying!

  • Wil Ferch April 20, 2015, 9:01 am

I’d like to see this story unfold a bit more before pronouncing judgment. Seems he hung onto the consignment gun a bit longer than he should have and that *could* have been a major misunderstanding with the “elderly” gentleman. Just sayin’…….

  • Joe April 13, 2015, 6:55 pm

i only watched it for the wife and daughter they are smokin hot.

    • Neal April 20, 2015, 4:47 am

I had no respect for the man for the way he sold his wife and daughter

    • alex gregis April 20, 2015, 7:55 am

joe,the old man already had dibbs on the women,ha,haaa,ha!!

  • Will Drider April 13, 2015, 3:13 pm

I watched his Show “Gunsmoke Guns” a few times. If you paid attention to the “deals” and prices he charged, you would not be suprised by this arrest. Yes, it takes a willing buyer and seller to make a deal. Did he get greedy-er?
What if BATFE charges him too?
Will Hayden from “Sons of Guns” bit it too for his misdeeds.
Great potential for them to be the “Faces of the Demon” for Moms against guns and Everytown zealots.
