Bleeding Zombie Targets from Zombie Industries

SHOT Show 2012
Bleeding Zombie Targets from Zombie Industries
Bleeding Zombie Targets from Zombie Industries
This is the only picture any of us thought to pop on Media Day and it is a tad light. You get the point anyway. They are fairly gruesome, but the designers of these targets think they have a big future in three dimensional gunfight training.

Some products just don’t deserve to stay in the file and closing our coverage of SHOT Show 2012, it would be a crime to not include mention of these incredible bleeding zombie targets we found at Media Day at the Range. Every shooting station at Media Day pretty much had at least one of these extremely unique targets, and they aren’t as cheesy as you may think. Not only do they bleed, they are also designed to “mutilate” with dozens or hundreds of rounds fired into them, so even dumping mags into them is somewhat pleasing as a reactionary target, with ongoing deterioration of the dummy as it slowly gets chewed away.

The price of these things runs between $70 and $100, and you can buy them right from the company website, or through Amazon and other internet retailers. Most of the people who tried them on Media Day thought they were worth the money, and even with next to no publicity, the company was sold out of them over Christmas. What do you get the guy who has everything? Apparently bleeding zombie targets!

We will include a couple of the different models here, but if you look through the company website they have a whole bunch of different options, and most of them are available. Are they too gruesome and overdone? To each his own, but punching paper gets old and these are a fun thing for a welcome change to a more reactive target. You can’t even get concert tickets for a hundred bucks anymore, and obliterating one of these will cost you a lot more in ammo than it will in target. They certainly are not for the faint of heart, but how many of us gun nuts classify as anything close to fickle?

What you don’t see here, and we forgot to take a picture of, is a second generation of these targets that is being created for military and police. It has vital regions outlined on the dummy and can give a tactical trainer the ability to actually see how different hits produce wound channels that will take out both vital organs and the spine, which is instantly disabling in a gunfight. In speaking with the creators of these products at Media Day, the initial somewhat silly idea of bleeding zombie targets has led to real potential for a long term successful product in three dimensional gunfight training aids. Fly the flag up the pole and see who salutes was how these got started, and the idea has really taken on a life of its own.

We should mention here that there are some people who are offended by these targets and find them too realistic and gruesome. There have even been those who say these are a threat to the 2nd Amendment because they make gun nuts look bad, like we are bloodthirsty killers. This is probably the same school of folks like Mitt Romney who think the 2nd Amendment is about hunting. The 2nd Amendment isn’t about hunting. It is about being able to defend your liberty and protect yourself, and what better to train for that than shooting targets that bleed and look gruesome? Someone has to play devil’s advocate and why not us! They are pretty gross so you be the judge.

This is one of those products that we hope to get a few of after the SHOT Show dust clears to demonstrate how it works, and we’d like to take a look at some of the other stuff from Zombie Industries. They have some great ideas for targets that hold clay pigeons, and they seem to be an inspired group of guys committed to making shooting more fun.

dear fellow commentators, first would like to say to my fellow brothers, I know the pain and memories you have of your military days, as i’am combat wounded myself. It does get better with time but never goes away. All the one’s that commented keep the zombie targets away from children stop for a minute. In this country at what age do you go from childhood to adulthood ? I had just turned 18 and graduated from high school in May and the luck of the draw my lottery number was 46. In July i was in bootcamp, in December i was in the Nam. In July i was severely wounded. I had just turned 19 and went to a bar to purchase a cold beer and was carded….not old enough. My government still considered me a child? I guess what i want to convey is I taught both my daughters to shoot safely and i’ll teach my grandkids also. So just mabe if the time comes for them they can take care of themself, and not go through the God awful pain of being wounded. Go for the zombie targets at shooting age!!!!

  • Lola February 10, 2012, 12:21 pm

I just ordered one of these for Valentine’s day for my Husband, and i was a little upset to see some cracks in it… not sure if theyre suppose to be there or not.. But im sure it will be fun to shoot!! 🙂

All in all, the Nazi Zombie target looks pretty friggen sweet!!

First of all, I want to thank ALL of you veterans for your service. Not having served, I can’t imagine going through what some of you have, but I still respect your opinions. Having said that, all of us that have concealed carry permits for self-protection owe it to ourselves and families to be proficient with our weapons. This means lots of practice at the range. I think that shooting at semi-lifelike target is a bit more realistic than just punching holes in a round paper target or even a sillouette. If we need to defend ourselves, we won’t be aiming at a flat piece of paper. We need to practice shooting at something that more likely represents what we’ll be protecting ourselves against. If it’s a zombie target, so be it. Note that I’m ignoring the “fun” factor. Also note that I would NOT be in favor of a target that would represent an actual human being (with the possible exception of Osama Bin Laden) or one that represents bias toward any race, ethnic group, or even political party.) As to the liberal critics who will condemn us for shooting human-like zombies: They will find a reason to criticize us no matter what we do. We just have to continue to verbally defend ourselves against their liberal, ivy tower, bullshit attitudes and arguments.

  • Popacap February 8, 2012, 6:51 pm

Wow…really all the negative, judgement posts on the silly targets? If you like the targets, think they might be fun for you buy them! If you think they put out the wrong message for your neighbor in the next bay at the range don’t use them that day or if you do, they may thing your are gross or rude…it is okay…it is still America. A person can be rude and still be a good American and/or patriot!

If they are lawful (which they are) enjoy! Some of us can disagree about these targets and it is still okay. There used to be a time in this country when didn’t all agree and it was okay. In fact, there was a time when you might not like what your neighbor did (as long as it was lawful), and you might not want to do it, but you’d fight to your death for him/her, in defense of freedom for them chase their weird version of happiness. Sadly this American freedom loving mind set is disappearing!

Guess what, the anti-gun people are going to change how they feel or their agenda to take guns away, no matter if you shoot these targets or not! It is kind of like saying the extreme Muslims are only attacking us because we bases in so many Arab countries in the Middle East. NO, it is our religion and our Western way of life!

In my humble opinion, in the larger scope, we all have to eliminate PC thoughts and verbiage from our lives…if this country ever falls, the under lying root cause will be a PC mind set which won’t let us do the tough things!!!
People wake up and toughen up mentally!

Relax, chill on the bloody, zombie targets…enjoy or not!

  • Hank February 8, 2012, 4:34 pm

Interesting to read all the comments. The commonality I see through them all is how passionately each person believes in what they say. This is what truly makes this country great; being able to passionately and publicly express ourselves when the opinions differ so, knowing there will NOT be a knock on the door in the middle of the night because of it. And also knowing that, if things do go severely wrong and we find ourselves in the worst possible situation requiring us to defend ourselves, our families, friends, country, etc., there are many more like us out there who will put these differences of opinion aside and do what must be done. Kudos to you all and thank you all for previous and future service to this great land of America. I sometimes regret not having spent any active duty military time (only inactive reserve time), but have spent almost 40 yrs in EMS, FD, and law enforcement service (coroner’s office), as well as working in several ERs. I have seen all the good and bad things we do to each other and yes there is reasoon for concern. But remember what Shane said in the movie years ago; a gun is just a tool, like a shovel or an axe; it is only as good or as bad as the man holding it.

  • Paulette February 8, 2012, 12:24 am

The Zombie targets are tons of fun. My daughter bought a Zombie male and a Zombie female for her fathers birthday last year. Everyone had fun taking their shots (good group/family activity). Nobody whined about shooting the female. Then for finale they were blown up by shooting the charge package inserted in the back. We have a video of it somewhere, don’t think it went viral, but it was totally worth it.

  • millsbills February 7, 2012, 6:57 pm

Really? Were comparing rubber zombie targets to killing and enemy in combat ? That is classic. I’m 0311 by trade for 7 years now and enjoyed destroying my enemy. Go cry to someone else if you can’t seperate rubber zombie targets from killing the enemy. Amazing

    • Papy February 7, 2012, 7:26 pm

Yes, really millsbills? So what, I was an 18Z. You’re brainwashed. With luck you’ll get over it though. I did. I never had a taste for this sorta stupid stuff or the folks that enjoy it. I’m done but still pro gun.

    • Tony February 7, 2012, 7:40 pm

You have missed the point. Think about it. Thank you for your service to our country.

  • fw February 7, 2012, 3:36 pm

I have been shooter/hunter for 55 years, am a vet, and I find these things in very poor taste. We do NOT need targets that bleed, zombie or others. We have quite enough unneeded and graphic violence in “entertainment” and media. Yes the “anti’s” will use this stuff and it will be accepted as “gun nut stuff” along with various blogs that go into details about “killing power of my 9 or such, must defend nation and other extreme stuff. Responsible gun owners are not in favor of this sort of trash, bad enough how gun owner image has suffered due to extreme types, now this. There is no use or value in “bleeding targets” be it zombies, deer or what ever, it only encourages the nut cases on both sides of issues. Way past time the moderated in middle sit down and discuss real value laws, not those of NRA or those that would take all guns. Kind of tired of gun shows looking like some armory sale, and some of this stuff is scary, like silencers for hunting so “will not damage my ears with muzzle blast”, you got to be kidding me. Grow up shooters or just might end up like Australia

    • Tony February 7, 2012, 7:18 pm

I agree, we MUST demonstrate maturity and responsibility. These targets are neither.

      • Dave February 8, 2012, 11:07 am

Yes it may be sick, but my first impression about this and other examples of American savagery is that who in their right would mess with us sickos?
You know the rest of the world wants us eliminated, the key to survival is to make your enemies terrified of you.

  • steve February 7, 2012, 2:50 pm

i love theese. i wish i had a whole army of theese to shoot !!!! awesome. wish they were a little cheaper since ammo is so high. send one to me to sample i have a ton of friends who would love to see theese.

  • John B. February 7, 2012, 2:07 pm

I have never shot any zombies. Do you aim for the head or the chest?

    • Papy February 7, 2012, 3:48 pm

Neither John! If you see one just run as fast as you can………..to the optometrist! Oh, just a suggestion, but you might also consider surrendering your FID card ot LTC.

  • jeff February 7, 2012, 1:52 pm

It worries me that so many people don’t see these targets as being disturbing! Its a fact that the world is changing and its a good thing “we the people” are getting our rights back so that in that nightmarish instant when we may have to take another human life in defense of a loved one or an innocent person on the street or in defense of our country but once done you will never be the same and a lot of lives will be changed forever…. the great thing about being an American is we can say and express what we will its our right but a lot of live were lost to preserve those rights…its a sobering thought! …Read a book called “On killing”….. and to the Americans out there who find the 2nd amendment right, just that and not a privilege if your happy so am I just put a little thought into it.life’s not a movie or a video game and taking a human life isn’t a joke and shouldn’t be portrayed as such.I for one don’t give a crap about the “anti’s I don’t have a 30 thousand dollar security alarm or body gaurds and I live in the real world….But I still think for myself!

  • KeithH February 7, 2012, 10:28 am

First off let me say, I am a combat veteran, been there done that. I don’t see anything wrong with these targets, WITH the caveat, that they are used by adult shooters. Given to kids they are a bad idea, but lets face it people kids aren’t going to be paying $70 -$100 per target to practice shooting. These targets are designed to take advantage of a current fad in ZOMBIES, there are even zombie shooting competions out there (the perfect environment for the use of these targets if you ask me).

Anyone that feels the targets are a bad idea, fine then don’t buy them, but as shooting sports enthusiasts I would hope that you take an active hand in standing up for the rights of firearms owners rather than just acquiesce when others become verbal in their opposition to our excercising our constitutional rights. After all, there are those that feel you shouldn’t be able to choose your own religion, either.

    • Papy February 7, 2012, 11:48 am

Kieth, first off, nothing was said or suggested about people’s rights, that’s your spin on it and you’ve taken it out of context. The question you raise in my mind is: why would you feel it’s wrong for kids to use, but not wrong for adults? Don’t we raise them to be adults? Maybe you’re afraid it will give them the wrong message, like maybe the one you have? I ask you this: would you want your kids to watch you using them at the range, or would you sneak off to the range alone to shoot your bloody zombies so they don’t see you? Get a life! They are wrong for anyone and you know it! They give the wrong message and take the good sport of shooting to an unnecessary, unhealthy realm……can’t you see that? Furthermore, to compare this discussion with affecting the choice of religion, or any other freedom is just ridiculous. It has nothing to do with freedom of choice but everything to do with stupidity. There must be better ways to get rid of your aggressions and hatred than this. BTW, I belong to 3 different shooting clubs and human silhouette targets are banned at all three. Don’t you think there’s a reason for this….duh?

      • Tony February 7, 2012, 7:50 pm

        Well said.

  • Papy February 7, 2012, 9:09 am

There’s really something wrong here folks! To those who like this sort of thing, please think hard about it. I’m pretty sure none of you have seen combat? Have you ever fired on anyone, or killed anyone? Well it ain’t fun and it ain’t like the movies! You do it to stay alive and to hopefully keep your buddies alive………period! There are lots of better ways to enjoy great shootng sports than crazy things like this. Think about it. This stuff can only promote hatred, not sportsmanship. My $0.02. BTW, I’m a veteran. Been there and done that and believe me, I’m not a liberal.

  • Barry February 6, 2012, 10:39 pm

I guess in a society so wrapped in political correctness you should have had a disclosure stating ” No actual zombies where harmed or killed in the taping of this video”. I personally do not know any shooter that has never shot anything but paper so where is the harm in shooting rubber zombies? So for all those naysayers out there remember the old saying-“Those that live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones”.

  • Ksizzle February 6, 2012, 8:17 pm

If we worried about what every gun activist liked or didn’t like we would all be unarmed

  • Deadman Walking February 6, 2012, 6:27 pm

Any target system that improves accuracy, including human shaped reactive targets, should be utilized in appropriate training forums. Fun is allowed. I say kill as many zombies as your bank account allows. The person who hesitates when faced with an armed intruder dies. Damn political correctness.

  • Wayne February 6, 2012, 6:00 pm

    Don’t like’em.

  • Tony February 6, 2012, 5:05 pm

Well said, Jeff. I am an avid hunter, shooter, firearms trainer, and a combat vet. In my opinion, these targets are disturbing and irresponsible; they should not be marketed to our youth. They may have a military/law enforcement application…but not as zombies.

  • Deadman Walking February 6, 2012, 4:40 pm

We should not shrink from the reality that exists in our culture—-there are dangerous criminals among us who intend to do us terrible harm both to body and property. Guns are not only meant for putting meat on the table and in the freezer—they are meant to keep bad people from taking our meat away leaving us wounded or dead. We must have the ability to protect ourselves, our loved ones, and innocent strangers from evil people. They ARE out there—just watch the local and national news—this is not a paranoid rant. Unfortunately innocent strangers and loved ones often don’t want to recognize the dangers of living in 2012 until they have violence visited upon them. God Bless the Police and all Law Providers but they are overwhelmed and unable to protect us. Get trained, stay proficient, and pray the evil bastards pass you by.

    • Administrator February 6, 2012, 4:51 pm

And don’t forget the zombie apocalypse for heaven’s sake! We’re not jokin around here!

  • b hock February 6, 2012, 4:22 pm

We live in a free country–if you want &can afford one of these targets buy one if not dont buy one-its that simple &do not worry about what someone else thinks!!!! hock

  • Rob Z February 6, 2012, 1:57 pm

It is always fun to shoot at something besides a paper target and these targets might be fun, but I am also afraid as others have stated that the anti gunners are going to take this and say how people who own guns just want to kill people. It gives them the opportunity to show us in a bad light. I don’t want the manufacturers of these to stop making them but I just wish the media wouldn’t show them so much. As for me I will stick to paper targets, pumpkins and Bowling pins. I also had the chance to shoot up a new car which was absolutely awesome. Anyway safe shooting to everyone and God Bless America!!!!

  • jeff February 6, 2012, 1:51 pm

“Our” gun rights are a serious matter and i have been very active! if this is what we have to show as a responsible sportsperson….go get another energy drink and get back to your halo game!

  • Garry Owen February 6, 2012, 12:46 pm

It’s bad enough that the day may very soon come when we again just may have to take another’s life; defense of our country, a loved one or simply of one’s self. It’s a lotta big talk putting someone else down simply because they see these targets as being primarily ” fodder for the Anti-Gun Lobby ” but I happen to agree wholeheartedly and I am far far far from being some kind of liberal wuzzy bear…. I have had to take many other’s lives and it is NOT a joyful thing by far. RVN 1968

  • Ray Vaughn February 6, 2012, 12:37 pm

I like them. I often take paper targets of aliens and monsters out to the range to get a break from 7 to 10 ring targets but I have to agree that it will turn anti-gunners into soap box speakers, especially on the female zombie targets. They’ll view it as aggressive urges against women. I like it because it may gross out some of the younger shooters who grew up with gruesome video games, when they see the bloody effects up close. You’re not gonna please everyone, I suggest anyone who’s gonna buy, get ’em quick before somebody finds a way to ban them. I can’t use human silohuettes with heads on my home range. I might have to put a bag over the zombie head but
it would be a fun target as a change of pace.

  • Mike February 6, 2012, 12:33 pm

I now see why we lose gun rights all the time. Nobody has a spine anymore.
Let me tell you a secret (don’t tell anybody else) these are not human targets THEY ARE FU*KING ZOMBIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ask the anti gun person that wants to make an issue of it what they plans to do when an imaginary object (zombie) comes to get him. As you finish that sentense tell them to get a life.

    • DR February 6, 2012, 3:31 pm

      Mike,
Second that on reminding people about the Night of the Living Dead! Oops, sorry about the secret.

  • jeff February 6, 2012, 12:22 pm

Is this a good idea doesn’t make us look very responsible as respected Shooters and sportsmen and women I think a lot more thought should happen before we start shooting at such a realistic human form that bleeds the video games our children play are bad enough. In my opinion bad joke! Let keep our rights and continue to secure them and not feed to the idea that sports men and women are idiots laughing and joking shooting weapons at a human form that bleeds!

  • travis February 6, 2012, 11:49 am

Awesome! Screw the anti’s same thing people said about the z-max ammo…its a bleeding zombie target…that is cool. Its the wishy washy pro gun people that dont stand up for their rights that allow the anti morons to get away with the crap they do.

“Germans who wish to use firearms should join the SS or the SA – ordinary citizens don’t need guns, as their having guns doesn’t serve the State.”
    Heinrich Himmler

  • Don February 6, 2012, 11:37 am

I’m afraid Mike has a good point. In another life the Army trained me on silhouettes and that was considered offensive by some. It’s probably going to give someone some ammunition.

  • mike February 6, 2012, 11:15 am

I’m very ambivalent about these types of targets….. It’s just a matter of time before some anti-gun reporter sees these and does an ” Expose’ ” on this topic…..

These kind of targets make us look….extreme and unreliable…..just more fodder for the anti-gun folks…

Sorry to rain on the parade but JMO…..

  • Chuck February 6, 2012, 11:07 am

Phyliss looks kind of hot, I wonder if she is free for a date this weekend ?.

    • Administrator February 6, 2012, 11:15 am

Well the name of that target is the ex, so yea, she’s probably available.

      • cliftymike February 6, 2012, 5:34 pm

        lol

  • Eric S. February 6, 2012, 10:37 am

During our carry permit training course, after we were done, the instructor gave my wife one more bullet to “take out the zombie with a head shot”. She is a nurse and he knew her from the clinic, and knew she was a Walking Dead fan. I say what ever gets you to practice or train more can’t be a bad!

  • rip February 6, 2012, 8:46 am

my local gun shop carries these as i was kind of looking at them .my wife thought they might be fun.she’s a fan of the show walking dead. these might even get her to shoot with me more. i guess i’ll try at least 2 one bleeder and one skeet.

  • kyle February 6, 2012, 5:33 am

    These targets are awesome! 😉

  • traveler1550 February 6, 2012, 12:07 am

prefer the face off 30 clay target..can have competitions and reusable.

  • Richard February 5, 2012, 5:44 pm

On 116 acres of woods these could be great fun to place along the trains and shoot from a horse or an ATV. Might give the nosy neighbors a little scare when they trespass! COOL!

    • Richard February 5, 2012, 5:44 pm

      Meant TRAILS!
