Bluntforce’s MK1 Savage Pistol Bayonet is Something to See

Industry News This Week

A gun is only as good as the number of bullets you have on hand.  Once you run out, you’re out.  Which is why many of us also carry an edged weapon on our person.  Not our primary fighting tool but it’s there in a pinch.

For some, though, the ideal situation is to marry these two systems.  To mount your blade on your gun.  While this may have fallen out of fashion some time ago, maybe it’s starting to come back.  At SHOT this year we got a chance to preview the Stinger, a retractable bayonet spike purpose-built for AR-pattern rifles.

While many readers publicly bashed the Stinger in the comment section, I think privately many were at the very least intrigued.  Well, I know that’s the case, tens of thousands of you read the article.

Recently, I’ve come across another modern bayonet that has actually been around for a few years.  The Mk1 Savage from Bluntforce.  I reached out to the company for details.  Craig, over at Bluntforce, was kind enough to respond.

“Inspired by the earlier spike or ‘pigsticker’ bayonets of the 18th century, we have updated the cruciform design to bring it into the 21st century, using 5-axis CNC machining and modern materials such as high carbon and high chromium AISI D2 tool steel, an extremely tough and durable hard wearing steel, all blades undergo our proprietary hardening and tempering techniques utilizing the latest technologies to bring about the maximum performance” explained Craig.

Two color options: black or chrome. (Photo: Bluntforce)

“Blades are coated in either black DLC diamond-like carbon coating or a high polish chrome finish for added corrosion resistance,” he continued.  “The industry standard mil-spec Picatinny rail mount allows it to be easily attached to a variety of firearms including rifles, shotguns and even pistols.”

Before you start to laugh, get this.  The MK1 Savage is sold out!  That’s right. “Due to the extremely high demand we are currently sold out but hope to have more units in stock within the next few months,” said Craig.

We’re hopefully going to get one in for a full review.  Until then, if you want to get your name on a waiting list or follow the development of the next batch you can sign up for their mailing list.

Price for the first gen version was around $250.  But I think that the second gen that was released was more affordable at $99.

The LaserLyte Pistol Bayonet has been around for several years.  It features a full tang Ka-Bar blade.

While the Bluntforce MK1 Savage is a novel concept, it is not the first pistol bayonet to market.  The LaserLyte Pistol Bayonet with Ka-Bar blade has been around for some time now.  It sells for around $20.  Maybe we’ll get one of those as well and compare the two.  Stay tuned.

Nasty,I think those were banned by some rule of war that forbids weapons that inflict wounds that don’t close up.not that that matters to me,lol
GIVE EM THE COLD STEEL BOYS!

Not sure of a ban, but in the Great War the Germans issued a sawtooth bayonet so nasty that when those who carried it were caught by British soldiers theyd it being used on themselves.

Some things soldiers just won’t stand for.

The problem with this device is some places with an assault weapons ban in place, part of the definition of an assault weapon reads; any firearm that can accept a bayonet. So by offering this device they may have banned any firearm that has rails in the areas that have the aforementioned law.

Not a bad thing to put on a walking stick.

Tacti-cool AF. However, a pistol handle is a terrible grip for thrusting a blade that is mounted perpendicular. You would be better off with a properly-held butter knife.
