Check Out MGM’s Portable ‘Plate Rack in a Bucket’

Authors Clay Martin Columns Competition

I don’t know about you, but I am really tired of seeing people trash public shooting land with washing machines, mufflers, and microwaves, along with all the other junk idiots use for targets. That is why, this week, I am excited to team up with MGM targets to show off their new Sportsman Steel Challenge Plate Rack.

Product Features:

  • Six 8-inch HexPlate targets
  • Six hooks
  • Two beam hangers
  • Targets made of 3/8-inch AR-500 steel
  • Carry Bucket
  • No tools required
  • MSRP: $299.00

Why a plate rack? Because it is among the most challenging and fun targets you can shoot. A full-sized traditional plate rack runs north of $1,000, and you are going to need a forklift to emplace it. Not exactly man-portable. It won’t fit in your Corolla.

This new MGM model, affectionately dubbed, the “Plate Rack in a Bucket,” is about 30 pounds and it fits anywhere! This is a product with great training value, and it’s cheap enough to meet almost any budget. The only thing you need to supply is the wood, i.e. 2x4s. There is also almost nothing to break. Once you eventually shoot up your 2×4 stands, you are out $3.19 at Home Depot. No biggie.

This is hours of training and fun at a price that won’t break the bank. And from now until Oct. 2017, you will receive a 10 percent discount if you tell MGM you saw this on GunsAmerica. Use the promo code: CMART10, and tell them Clay sent ya!

I note the fact that this thing collapsed to the right was edited out two or three times. A good idea, but it seems to require some lateral stabilization or other support of some kind.

Great video & product. Is it a great idea to shoot toward a road as Clay is doing?

I love shooting at plates. Fast running a 1911 on a rack of plates is one of most fun things you can do with a gun. I think a rack like the one shown would better for a home range. As for me, I have the single X-frame plate holder that needs only a single 2×4 of any length. I have 8″, 10″ and a cool half size combat silhouette (9×15). Easy to transport, set up and move up or down the range. Shooting paper for groups or cardboard for defense practice is all good ….but the (((ring))) is the thing!

Thanks again Clay! I have a load of scrap steel you could make shapes and targets out of, haul it off and then I wont have to!!! Lol!!! Thanks again for your defending our country!

    Agreed to above.
Thanks Clay for the nice review- me and my nine year old son love watching your videos.

Anyone who is going to trash up a public shooting range isn’t going to pay $300 for a set of plates. That said, this is a pretty reasonable price for what you get (assuming you have a pick up truck to haul around the 6′ long 2x4s).

    • Everett June 30, 2017, 7:45 am

Wait… There are people that own guns and DON’T have a truck? What is the world coming to….

Yeah, some of us like to get out in the rough, so we drive Jeeps! 🙂

I can fit all those 2×4’s in my Hyundai Sonata sedan by folding the seats. Stop trying to limit your horizons with negative thinking.

Well said. My mid sized suv will very easily handle 6 foot lumber, as will most other suvs. My wife’s tiny car only needs that you fold down one of the rear seatbacks and a 5′ 6″ foot space is ready to load. Or you can fold down the passenger seat for a full 8′. When you think about it, why not just cut the 2×4 lenghts to fit what you can carry?
