Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is jumping on the ban bump stocks bandwagon.  This week, the Democrat called on lawmakers to ban the popular range toy during the 2018 legislative session.

“Now, in the aftermath of the Las Vegas mass shooting, it is clear that bump stocks have no place in our society,’’ Malloy said. “The Las Vegas shooter was able to fire 90 rounds every 10 seconds, leading to the deadliest mass shooting in United States history.’’

“Simply put, these devices are cheap, they are deadly, and they are completely and utterly unnecessary in our society,” he continued.

The specific bill he is pushing for would also prohibit the sale and possession of trigger cranks, binary triggers and other systems that meet the definition of “rate of fire enhancements.”

July 1st of this year is when the law would take effect.  Violators would be charged with a Class D felony.

However, there is a two-year grandfather clause for permitted gun owners currently in possession of such devices.  They won’t escape punishment.  But instead of receiving the felony charge for a first offense, that’d be slapped with an infraction and a $90 fine.  That exemption expires in 2020.

“I don’t think we should wait for more tragedy, for more senseless deaths before we act to protect residents,” Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman said in a press release.

“The Governor’s initiative takes a smart, well-reasoned approach to bump stocks,” she continued. “As state leaders, we should have the courage to pass commonsense, anti-violence legislation to help avoid the types of tragedies that we experienced here in Connecticut and that we see continuing throughout the nation.”

Massachusetts was the first state to ban bump stocks following Vegas.  Lawmakers in New Jersey have also passed a bill to ban bump stocks.  That bill has been sent to the desk of outgoing Gov. Chris Christie.

My last soap-box raving post regarding this. Connecticut is not a bad state to live in, it’s the pious politicians like Blumenthal (the proclaimed “but not” Vietnam Veteran), overpaid “welfare voter hugging” witches like DeLauro and that sleazy arrogant Murphy that screw it up. These people are not elected and re-elected because they are good for the state; the votes come from the dominant voting welfare recipients that the DemonCraps provide with a free handout. If you never worked a day in your life and received $40,000 plus a year in welfare benefits, wouldn’t you vote for the DemonCraps? Maybe even 2 or 3 times per election. The working middle class in Connecticut, mostly Republicans, carry the burden of supporting a increasing percentage of welfare recipients and illegals (more votes for DemonCraps). Although Malloy is a venomous snake in the grass, he is no better or worse than any other DemonCrap politician. Now that President Trump (yes, I am a deplorable) has shut off funding to Connecticut and other sanctuary states, it has put Cannoticant in the red. In turn, Malloy and his fellow DemonCrap Mafia don’t want to anger their welfare voting supporters by cutting their benefits, so they turn to the conservative, Republican working middle class to kick in higher income and sales taxes to insure they stay in power. What these idiots do not understand is that eventually all of the working class will have no choice but to move into a less expensive state leaving Cannoticant bankrupt, full of welfare recipients and illegal aliens with no State or Federal income to support them. I foolishly moved to Cannoticant from Cow Hampshire but back then you could still own AR’s, high cap mags and machine guns if you wanted, and CT still allowed private sale of handguns, rifles and shotguns with no registration. The garbage started in 1996 but there was no turning back. Like Vermont, you can still buy and sell handguns privately in New Hampshire with no state intervention. They have Constituional Carry and stand your ground. But even Cow Hampshire is starting down the slippery slide with increasing numbers of liberal flat-landers (mostly from CT) moving in and voting for DemonCraps with anti-gun agendas. They move out of the cesspools they created and try to turn their new State of residence into another liberal cesspool. DemonCrap Liberals are like a cancer. The difference between NH and CT is if Malloy pulled his horse s- – t in NH there he’d be voted out because there are more gun owners than liberals and welfare recipients. Vermont, despite it’s liberal politics and high taxes, allows open or concealed carry without a permit, trade, buy or sell any gun privately without any paperwork and you never hear about any gun related crime in Vermont. The Liberal politicians in Vermont won’t mess with the 2nd Amendment there because they would be voted out since there are little or no welfare recipients in Vermont to vote for them, just the working class and a lot of gun owners. The only saving grace is that eventually Cannoticant will end up bankrupt, have no choice but to cut welfare benefits and the cesspool will get pumped into a more worthy liberal State like New Jersey, Kalifornia or even better Washington DC. OK, I’m done my rant.

Thanks for playing into the gun grabbers hand. The “compromise” you propose is nothing of the sort, as actual compromise means that both sides get something and give up something. What are gun owners getting in return for this? That would be a big fat zero, with the assurance of more onerous restrictions in the future.

Bump stocks are at best a spray and pray toy. Semi auto is 1000x more accurate. The issue here is more about our Constitutional rights being denied because of insane Liberal politicians like Malloy that pass executive orders at midnight, a trick he learned from his buddy Obama. I laugh at the 2 year grandfather clause, $90 a pop in unconstitutional revenue to help pay for illegal welfare and then later a way to turn legal gun-owners into felons at the same time. Boo-Hoo, Hillary didn’t get elected so Malloy won’t get his cushy high paid Washington DC taxpayer funded position for banning AR’s in CT and leading the nation on the path of Demoncrat gun confiscation, so now his personal goal is to further injure our freedom. He has run Connoticant into the red financially by chasing out gun manufacturers and opening the state as a sanctuary cesspool for illegals on welfare in return for Federal funding under Obama that President Trump has now pulled the plug on. I hope our next Governor evicts the illegals on welfare and puts us back in the green. Let them move to NYC or upstate NJ. If I didn’t have family here in CT I would move out tomorrow. If this keeps up they should change our license plates from the Constitution State to the Communist State. Sieg Heil Malloy, Adolf would be proud of you.

And the rate of fire quoted came from where? He would have had to be in the room handing that nut job magazines to know that. I have to ask, why has this investigation gone silent? The local authorities have bee very reluctant to release much info on their investigation. Why the secrecy?

I’m in CT. I can’t wait to get rid of this politician. He’s been reckless and unpopular. He has run my state so far into the red and yet deals with knee-jerk ridiculous legislation. Is there a coincidence he resembles Steven Colbert?

With the avalanche of gun control bills that passed after Sandy Hook, a bump stock ban is the last thing gun owners of CT should worry about. Not to say I want it to pass but what good are bump stocks when one is limited to a ten round magazine? This clown was up for re election since the Sandy Hook laws passed and won. Gun owners of CT have their work cut out for them. To make matter worse, anti gun east coast states like CT,NJ,NY,MD are all competing to see which one could pass the most restrictive gun laws.

our wonderful, constitution-loving governor(who has the lowest approval rating in the country, and has for years), luckily enough has announced that he will not run for re-election this fall.
maybe he’s trying to do as much as he can until then(since he now doesn’t have to worry about the consequences of his actions/policies from the voting public.)

  • Dr Motown January 12, 2018, 6:13 am

Prevent another Vegas incident? Does the governor know something that the rest of us peasants don’t? No report has yet been released on what really happened there…..hmmmmm

  • Bobs yer uncle January 10, 2018, 7:29 pm

Classic example of what people mean when they say “nothing burger” no mention of a single meaningful thing to the people of that state.

“smart, well-reasoned approach,” “commonsense, anti-violence,” “bump stocks have no place in our society,” “these devices are cheap, they are deadly, and they are completely and utterly unnecessary in our society,”
Code words for: Gun control, banning all gun ownership, and disarming law-abiding citizens.

In addition to Governor Malloy’s condemnation of bump stocks as cheap, deadly and unnecessary in civilised society, I would like to add that they are tacky and in poor taste. For gun enthusiasts as a group, these bump stocks unnecessarily antagonise our opponents and alienate some of us within the community, to the point that the NRA itself, in a rare moment of cooperation and appeasement, has publicly said that regulating bump stocks would not be inappropriate. Bump stocks hurt us as a community more than they help us. We should be willing to compromise on this issue – we have only bump stocks to gain and so much more to lose.
