When you make great stuff that everyone loves, eventually you have to decide to make some new and different stuff. I think that is the case with Coonan Inc., makers of the famous .357 Magnum 1911.
It may seem like a digression to move from a truly novel product to a very common product, a regular old .45ACP 1911, but why not? There are dozens of small 1911 shops out there, many of them with guns in the multi-thousand dollar range, and it is not uncommon for them to be backordered 6 months. Americans love the 1911.
Since Coonan had to overcome the oddness of the rimmed .357 case to make a gun that ran and that was accurate, why not bring that experience, and manufacturing methods, to a gun with a broader appeal?
With a linkless barrel, pivoting trigger and external extractor, the Coonan .45 is reasonably priced at $1,375 as a base model. At the link above they are currently backordered, so I doubt we’ll even get a test gun for a while, but if you already have experienced the “Coonan Difference,” you can get in line now for the new gun. You can also reach Coonan Inc. at 763.786.1720 in Blaine Minnesota.
