WATCH: Dancing FBI Agent Drops Gun, Shoots Bar Patron

The agent did a backflip which caused the gun to fall from his waistband (Photo: Fox 31 Denver).

In what investigators are calling an “accidental shooting,” an FBI agent dropped his gun while dancing, which discharged hitting a bystander in the leg on Saturday.

The incident happened at Mile High Spirits Distillery and Tasting bar in Denver, Colorado.  To be more accurate, the agent was in the midst of a backflip when the gun fell from the man’s waistband.  Apparently, he was trying to show off his moves.

A witness told local news affiliate Fox 31 what happened after the gun went off.

“Everyone was kind of shocked after it happened because [the agent] kind of put his gun back away and then he walked away,” said “Julie” the witness.  She said she saw a person bleeding.

“No one really knew what was going on,” she continued. “I was shocked. I honestly just wanted to make sure that my friends … [that] I knew where they were.”

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital.  Reports said he or she was given a “good prognosis” for recovery.

As for the FBI agent, he was released to an agency supervisor.  It’s not clear whether he was drinking or not.  What’s also unclear is whether he will face any charges for losing control of his firearm.

Local police are still investigating and once that wraps up, it will be up to the Denver District Attorney’s Office on whether to pursue charges against the dancing agent.

We’ll keep you posted on this story.  It’ll be interesting to see if the agent actually faces any charges or if this incident is swept under the rug.  You know that if it was you or me who dropped our carry gun in a public setting and wounded an individual, we’d be facing prosecution to the fullest extent of the law. You can bet on that.

He’s lucky it didn’t go off when he was stuffing it in his pants!

  • Sly June 10, 2018, 10:27 pm

I need to know what type of Firearm it was so i will never buy one, I got 12 guns and neither will fire if you drop one. I got Ruger, S/W, Springfield, they are pretty safe firearms, he must have have it in a unsafe firing position. He need some retraining. I would hate for him to lose his job because of an accident

  • archangel June 10, 2018, 7:19 pm

Issue #1 He was at an establishment that was serving alcohol with his firearm, and in most states, even if you are not drinking, that is illegal.

Issue #2 Was he drinking while in possession of a firearm? In most states that is also illegal!

Issue #3 He obviously pulled the trigger when he picked it up so it was a negligent discharge, not accidental!

Issue #4 He clearly tried to pretend the gun did not go off when it obviously did, and then tried to walk away!

Issue #5 He did not even concern himself to verify if someone was injured or killed!

He needs to lose his badge and go to jail!

If I did any one of the 5 things listed above, I would be in court, then on my way to jail!

  • Carlosperdue June 9, 2018, 8:52 pm

The irresponsible cop actually fired it when he grabbed it

  • elgavilansegoviano June 8, 2018, 8:33 pm

    …..They should fired this idiot!!,…

  • BRUCE MARSTON June 8, 2018, 8:31 pm

WHY DID THIS DINK WALK AWAY FROM THE DIRECTION OF DISCHARGE, INSTEAD OF GOING OVER TO MAKE SURE NO ONE WAS BADLY HURT OR MAYBE EVEN KILLED? WE SHOULD ALL KEEP AN EYE ON THIS STORY AND DO WHAT WE CAN TO MAKE SURE THAT HE IS FIRED.

THIS MAN JUST DOESN’T GIVE A DAM!

  • Brent June 8, 2018, 6:14 pm

First thing I wanted to know when I read the headline about a gun discharging when it hit the floor was what brand and model gun can go off when it hits the floor. Was he carrying an Old Model Ruger single action revolver with a round under the hammer or a Colt single action army? Then I watched the video and saw the agent fire the gun when he picked it up from the floor. The agent should take mandatory firearms training for at least as long as it takes him to learn how to pick up a loaded weapon. And then not be allowed to carry one.

  • FirstStateMark June 8, 2018, 5:26 pm

If he had been drinking then he should be prosecuted. He should be prosecuted for being a dumb-ass for carrying a firearm not
holstered or properly secured to his body. Acting like that knowing he’s armed he wins a Darwin award for being the stupidest fucking asshole in the world. He could have KILLED someone. Prosecute the idiot! FBI should FIRE the idiot!

  • Robert Campbell June 8, 2018, 4:14 pm

I didn’t discharge when it hit the ground, it discharged when he grabbed it. Dumb-ass snagged the trigger.

  • Leonard June 8, 2018, 1:56 pm

The way I saw this was that he tucked his gun, probably a Glock, into his waistband, not a holster. When he did his back-flip, he was probably drunk. Then he grabbed the gun from the floor and it discharged. He probably grabbed it by the trigger, and there is no safety.
I leave a round in the spout all the time. I don’t use a safety either, but the gun is a double-action and requires more trigger pull than a Glock. If this agent is allowed back on duty, he should be called Officer Fife, and only allowed one bullet.

    • Godfrey Daniel June 8, 2018, 5:57 pm

He should be transferred to the basement file room for the rest of his employment with NO bullets or gun to put them in.

  • Pants Up Dont Loot June 8, 2018, 1:24 pm

This dumbass should be fired for his horrible dancing, THEN taken out back & shot!

  • George Graves June 8, 2018, 11:27 am

The sad fact is that just about everybody thinks that if you’re former LE or military, or active LE / military, then you are an “Expert” in firearms and firearms safety. That is so far from reality it hurts my head. Many in the LE community just do mandatory range time for proficiency in hitting a target, and that is it. Many in the military never get qualified in firearms at all. Just your everyday responsible adult would never have done what this idiot did. But Urban Myth says he’s an “Expert”. I suppose he could safely Break Dance with a loaded and chambered AR on a single point tactical sling??

  • Flip June 8, 2018, 11:19 am

What kind of untrained dipshit goes to pick up a loaded weapon with his finger inside and on the trigger??

Stupid a whole could have killed somebody showing off like an idiot

  • kane June 8, 2018, 11:06 am

He managed to ‘blow away’ someone in the audience with that terrible dance.

  • Blase DesMarais June 8, 2018, 9:30 am

I’ve seen this video a number of times and what I see is not
what I hear being reported. The gun did not just go off. It went off when he pulled
the trigger when he picked it up. Which violates one of the four rules that every trained
gun owner knows. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.

  • BOB CREEKMORE June 8, 2018, 8:48 am

Some more bad press for the FBI someone needs to get a handle on that bunch.

  • Budman June 8, 2018, 8:38 am

He needs to be fired. Period!

  • Wil Ferch June 8, 2018, 8:33 am

NO ! …..NOT an accidental discharge !!!! (Quote from article…”an FBI agent dropped his gun while dancing, which discharged hitting a bystander in the leg on Saturday.”)

It was a NEGLIGENT dishcharge. The anti-gun press is having a field day with this flawed and mistaken reporting…and you are here repeating it.

The press releases imply the gun hit the ground and it went off accidentally. Gives the population even more fear of these “nasty” guns going off all by themselves if you simly look at them cross-eyed.

The reality is that the gun hit the ground…..did NOT go off then…..the FBI goof hurriedly picked it up and did it too quickly by his embarassment, and he put his finger in the trigger guard WHILE PICKING IT UP….and he idiotically shot someone.

This is NEGLIGENT discharge and not an accidental discharge of a gun with a hair-spring trigger. Don’t feed this narrative.

    • Caretaker June 8, 2018, 9:55 am

Wil, you’re absolutely right, the gun didn’t go of until he picked it up.

  • mka June 8, 2018, 7:02 am

You can bet this guy will not be charged and probably not punished. It will die without any real publicity and will be forgotten.
It is called the two tier justice system. You and I go to jail, government agents get hidden from view until the smoke clears.

  • MARK June 8, 2018, 6:45 am

SORRY LOTS OF SPELLING ERRORS THERE. BUT YOU GET THE DRIFT

  • MARK June 8, 2018, 6:43 am

THESE ARE THE GUYS THAT THE GOVT WANT TO MAKE LEGAL GUN OWNERSHIP ENGORCE TAKING GUNS AWAY FROM LEAGAL RESPONSIBLE OWNERS. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT

  • Willy June 8, 2018, 6:14 am

Interesting how the guy puts the gun away behind his back, walks away and puts his hands in the air as though he did nothing wrong.

  • DGribble June 8, 2018, 6:10 am

Yep! He pulled the trigger, it did not just go off when it hit the ground. and He will be investigated by some level of A Blue Agency (Federal or State). This is where the Coyotes review, Investigate and then Determine if the Fox was justified…or will even face charges for Raiding the Hen House.

  • Dan June 8, 2018, 6:09 am

Yes, as clearly seen in the video (I stopped and started it several times to watch frame by frame) the gun discharged when he engaged the trigger while grabbing it off the floor.

I’m guessing this was some college kid recruited by the FBI, who, if not fired, will spend the rest of his career carrying one bullet in his front shirt pocket.

I would not only fire him, but ban this moron from ever owning or possessing a firearm, and I would also fire whomever determined that he was a suitable candidate to entrust with the responsibility of carrying a pistol.

The worst part was that he walked away without consideration of where that bullet ended up!

We have thousands of criminals carrying illegal handguns in this country, and I have yet to ever hear of one of them being involved in such a ridiculously irresponsible act!

    • joefoam June 8, 2018, 10:00 am

And these are the people that the liberals want to have weapons? Not only was he careless with his carry method, he caused the weapon to fire when he picked it up and then tried to walk away like nothing happened. Has he been charged with anything yet? If it was you or I, we would be sitting in jail right now.

  • Barney Fife June 8, 2018, 5:14 am

One more reason to abolish the FBI.

  • Gear Junkie June 8, 2018, 4:54 am

It irritates me every time I read an article about this incident and it is called an “accidental” shooting or discharge of the firearm. This is a Negligent Discharge of the firearm. That agent was completely negligent by disregarding the first Cardinal Rule of firearms safety and possibly for possessing a firearm while consuming alcohol. At the very least, this agent should be relieved of duty and either permanently re-assigned to desk duty or fired.

If no one were injured from the negligent discharge, then I could see some leniency However, this is not the case and the agent should not be allowed to handle a firearm as a sworn officer.

  • Heavy10mm June 8, 2018, 4:00 am

Wow. They try to make it sound like the gun went off when it hit the deck. Fact is, that POS SHOT the guy

  • JGinNJ June 8, 2018, 3:09 am

AR and other publications regularly devote space to describe and publicize events at which a gun owner prevented or ended a crime. I find it useful to read. What might be more useful though would be to have regular articles reviewing accidents people have with guns. I now know that I should probably not do back flips in a bar while I have been drinking and carrying, and it is not a good idea to pick my weapon up off the floor with my finger on the trigger. But I think I knew that. There are however other accidents in which the stupidity is not as obvious and it would be useful to read about what can go wrong,

  • ARJAY June 7, 2018, 8:23 am

Looks like he was in a hurry to pick up the gun and put his finger on the trigger thereby causing the gun to discharge. It didn’t fire until he reached for it.

    • Darryl June 8, 2018, 5:43 am

this is what i got from watching the video. he put his finger on the trigger and pulled it when he went to pick it up, how dumb can you be and these are the guys that all the anti-gunners say have all the training that us regular people don’t so they should have guns and not us. also they don’t know if he was drinking, really he’s at a drinking party dancing like an idiot doing stupid stuff with a gun in his pants. but nothing is going to happen him but if it we one of us jail is all we would have to look forward to.

  • SeppW June 6, 2018, 10:20 pm

Most states have laws abut bringing firearms into a bar and if alcohol was involved this guy might be up crap creek. Unless the fact he’s a federal LEO gets him a pass. If he was on floor twerking then he most certainly was not on the job.

Next time, leave weapon in car.

    • Cyrus June 8, 2018, 8:28 am

Exactly – my State forbids bringing weapons into a bar. Restaurants that serve alcohol is ok but you cannot go up to their bar and sit which is fine by me since I go to a restaurant to eat not drink. This guy is clearly a danger to the General Public but nothing will happen to him because of the Double Standards in this Country. You and I would be in jail, have to make bail, hire a lawyer, and plea-bargain a light sentence not to mention losing our right to own any kind of firearm for the rest of our lives; but then again, you and I are not as Stupid as this guy is.

  • De June 4, 2018, 4:02 pm

From the first video, it looks like a negligent discharge (putting aside the fact his weapon FELL OUT). You can see it fire after he reaches for it, well after it hits the deck.

  • Bobs your uncle June 4, 2018, 1:52 pm

How would you like to try and explain that one? What kind of gun was it?

    • Darryl June 8, 2018, 5:44 am

      glock

      • Bobs your uncle June 8, 2018, 12:43 pm

It would appear the person that was struck in the leg was hit with a ricochet. Some of the methods off carrying a pistol of this type concealed are pretty scary, carried in front places the barrel directly over the femoral artery when seated in a car or chair. I bet a lot of veterans would tell you that in an actual shooting conflict they would like to have one of these guns. When you are doing back flips in a bar however, get a revolver or a gun with a good safety. The FBI seems to learn about firearms only the hard way.
