Five Dumbest Calls For Gun-Control Following Church Shooting: ‘Guns don’t protect anyone from anything’

2nd Amendment – R2KBA Authors S.H. Blannelberry This Week

Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. That’s how I’d sum up all the recent calls for tougher gun laws in the wake of the recent mass shooting at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina, that left nine people dead.

But if I had to pick out the five dumbest calls to action I’ve heard thus far, here they are:

President Barack Obama

“Some reporters took it as resignation. I’m not resigned,” Obama said Friday at the U.S. Conference of Mayors. “I have faith we will eventually do the right thing. We have to stop being confused about this. … You don’t see murder on this kind of scale, this kind of frequency in any other advanced nation on Earth.”

Why it’s dumb: False comparison. Apples to oranges as crime data in Europe isn’t reliably tracked nor tracked like it is in the U.S.

Democratic presidential candidate Martin O’Malley

“A single American life is worth more than all the guns in the United States,” said the former Maryland governor while giving a speech at the U.S. Conference of Mayors in San Francisco. “How many senseless acts of violence do we have to endure as a people before we stand up to the congressional lobbyists of the National Rifle Association? How many more Americans have to die?”

O’Malley also called for reinstating a federal ban on so-called assault weapons.

Why it’s dumb: Guns save American lives everyday. Without them, more good people would be victims of assault, robbery, rape and murder.

New Yorker Writer Adam Gopnik

“Guns don’t protect anyone from anything,” wrote Gopnik in a recent article (I highly suggest you read it, you won’t believe how absurd it is). “Their presence simply increases the odds of domestic tragedy, of a domestic altercation turning into a homicide (or a suicide). The data confirms what common sense suggests: not even the most desperately paranoid among us could possibly be perpetually prepared for an actual home invasion—as very rare as such incidents actually are…”

Why it’s dumb: Guns don’t protect anyone from anything is about the dumbest statement I’ve heard in a long time.  But don’t take my word for it, consider this statement from a CDC study on the number of defensive gun uses (Guns being used to protect someone from something) per year:

“Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year, in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008.”

Author Stephen King

A follow up to his previous comments on twitter, ““Until responsible gun owners support responsible gun control laws, innocent blood will continue to flow. How many times must we see this?” King tweeted this:

Why it’s dumb: “Clip” nuff said.

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton

“I lived in Arkansas and I represented upstate New York. I know that gun ownership is part of the fabric of a lot of law-abiding communities,” said Clinton at the Conference of Mayors. “But I also know that we can have common-sense gun reforms that keep weapons out of the hands of criminals and the violently unstable, while respecting responsible gun owners.”

Why it’s dumb: Respectfully, Mrs. Clinton is full of shit! She doesn’t respect gun owners and by “common-sense reforms” she means banning widely popular and commonly-owned firearms.

It is Soooooo against the thoughts, words, and heart of our Constitution to restrict free citizens from possessing firearms, that I believe we need a 28th Amendment to the Constitution to make it crystal clear:

Congress, nor the Courts, nor the President of The United States shall enact no laws limiting the possession of firearms by law abiding citizens of The United States. Any act to do so will be considered treason. Period

I agree wholeheartedly. We need some kind of protection against ANTIGUN people.

Apparently every anti-gun politician failed their history classes. The “wild west” wasn’t so wild yes there was crime, but not as much that is shown in television and movies. Why was there a low crime rate? Because everyone and their brother wore a pistol on their hip. And if the president would like to compare europe’s crime rate to our great nation’s, then he should research Britain’s handgun ban in 1996. After the ban was put in place their violent crime rate sky-rocketed. The solution isn’t banning firearms, it is banning stupid people.

If you believe that gun control is a reasonable effective way to combat gun violence then you must also believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny also.

  • Larry June 30, 2015, 12:01 pm

Don’t think for a second that the Beige Bozo is not coming for your firearms. He has 18 months left before we CAN kick him out screaming & fighting to stay in power. In order for baby boy & his flunkies to take total control of the country, they MUST first disarm the populace, just like Hitler did to the German people. Be prepared, my friends.

The real truth is the politically made up term “gun control” has only one meaning and that is control! I have been around long enough to have seen our gun rights dwindle to what we want to think of as rights today! I can remember my Father and Grandfather ordering firearms from a catalog and those very same firearms arriving in the US mail no less. I remember going out in the field and trying them out, hunting for some small game meal like rabbit, squirrel or the like! Now you have to have a license for everything, paper work for everything, back ground checks etc… etc…. The only rights we have left are the one’s the government grants us, That’s not freedom, that is tyranny! Truth is that the TRUTH can no longer be spoken, that makes you an enemy of the State/government because thier truth is the only one you are suppose to hear, believe and repeat until everyone else does too! The government today is all a smoke screen and mirror job and the real behind the scenes dealings are never found out until after the fact which makes them harder to change! It only takes a small amount of real investigative reporting to find out so many of these rioters, protesters and trouble makers are paid participants, now ask yourself why the news media never reports those little truths! Why hasn’t the truth of the sandyhook been main stream media when it has been so picked apart that even those participating in the whole fake ordeal look ridiculous, even in thier body language when being interviewed, even well scripted answers to questions get out of line with the questions, children supposedly deceased show up in photographs after the fact etc….Those who cannot think for themselves will indeed be controlled and that is what the whole game is about! The truth is spoken, not to convince those who cannot grasp it, understand it, or believe it but to protect those who do because there may be many facts but the truth is only one! As Lenin once said “A lie spoken often enough becomes the truth”

As we all know, the anti-gun crowd think they make perfect sense. They really believe that if guns are magically made to go away that every “gun crime” will not happen. They think gun suicides will stop 20,000 people from killing themselves. They are simply beyond redemption.

  • Woody June 29, 2015, 6:03 pm

Fire arms protect American citizens from tyrants and would be attackers.

  • 5WarVeteran June 29, 2015, 2:58 pm

Barack Obama – An outright LIE or does he NOT COUNT the thousands of Christian Church Massacres committed by Islam in the last 100 years alone? But to prove he is a liar even better here is a list of 1090 well researched Obama lies: https://danfromsquirrelhill.wordpress.com/2013/08/15/obama-252/
Democratic presidential candidate Martin O’Malley – Then why does he vote pro abortion??? Which face will we see next?
Adam Gopnik – (personal experience here) during a home invasion in my home, my best friend had her head blown off by her estranged husband using a 12 gauge. Her baby in her arms. At the time I did not own weapons. Had I owned a weapon I would have been able to end the threat when he kicked my front door in. Oh and the police had been caled numerous times because of his continued attacks where he beat her in the front yard, at least 20 calls. Then that morning as well as 2:30 am he came again and the police were called. (Berkeley County SC) and they allowed him to drive away intoxicated so he could return at 9 am with the shotgun taken from his fathers home while telling his father “I’m gonna kill that bitch”. So Andrew please convince me on how you know better . . . Let us not discount where in England gun bans are in effect, per-capita you are 65 times more likely to suffer a violent crime than in the USA . . .
Author Stephen King – Stevie boy, you are the reason celebrities should never be given any other value than their product. I no longer read your stuff just as I no longer watch Liam Kneeson’s hypocritical crap. Other than a passable author and actor neither of you are qualified to comment on anything anyway.
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton – Hildabeest – Why shpuld I give ANY value to a known criminal who is hell bent on destroying my country in many nefarious ways and perhaps is a worse LIAR than Barack Obama? “What does (what she says) matter any way?”

I live in an open carry state. I moved here in 2014 to a city of about 100,000 people. I remembered that this city didn’t have its first homicide ’til July of that year. Can you say that about where you. So much for blood runnin’ in the streets!

A good person with a gun will always cancel out an evil person with a gun! Duh!!

  • Huapakechi June 29, 2015, 10:09 am

Others have made the case much better than I can. Here are some of their statements on guns:

“When I carry a gun, I don’t do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I’m looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don’t carry it because I’m afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn’t limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation…and that’s why carrying a gun is a civilized act.”
    ~ Marko Kloos
“The right of citizens to bear arms is just one guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against the tyranny which now appears remote in America, but which historically has proved to be always possible.”
    ~ Senator Hubert H. Humprey
“Never forget, even for an instant, that the one and only reason anybody has for taking your gun away is to make you weaker than he is, so he can do something to you that you wouldn’t let him do if you were equipped to prevent it. This goes for burglars, muggers, and rapists, and even more so for policemen, bureaucrats, and politicians.”
    ~ Aaron Zelman

There is always a political angle.

In 1933 we almost had a coup here in the US. It was called The Business Plot.

What happens the next year? The National Firearms Act of 1934, banning automatic weapons from the hands of civilians, making effective resistance to centrally imposed government tyranny more difficult. My, how convenient to use the event of a near-overthrow of government – which never had a realistic chance of succeeding – to impose laws meant to disarm the citizens.

As to why a citizen might develop such a need to arm himself, I would suggest that you look up something called OPERATION NORTHWOODS. And then ask yourself if other such ‘contingency plans’ had been implemented, and how much history written in American blood resulted.

The pattern is easily discernible. HL Mencken said it best: “The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.” While the real demons are busily trying to frighten you out of both your wits and your rights.

As the craziness in this God given republic not only endures, but expands, there will probably come a day when you will be more than thankful you and your neighbor have protected your constitutional right to keep, and still bear, your firearms. History has repeatedly shown this right is one of the few things in our crumbling world’s society that has kept our nation, and some others, relatively free from oppression. Compare that with those who haven’t!

  • mike June 29, 2015, 9:11 am

I used to live in the U.K.
They HAD tough gun control, until someone went on a rampage. so they pretty much banned all guns
(the next step after bringing in gun control). The reason was “well we will stop criminals from getting guns”
Yeah, well, that didn’t work. There are still criminal shootings REGULARLY and Mr Citizen is at their mercy. Almost every time an innocent gets shot and killed by the unarmed criminals
So thats how gun control WORKS

    • kvulcan July 6, 2015, 1:34 pm

Chicago has a complete ban on guns in the city, yet they have multiple shootings every week. The government is made up entirely of Liberal Democrats (some with criminal records) . They have enacted laws making it illegal to commit a crime with a gun or Murder someone with a gun, hammer, knife or any homeowners tool that can be wielded against another human.. Why don’t they first fix these laws to make criminals obey them, then see if we still need more gun control.( what is “MORE” than a complete ban?) Why does no one intellectualize why this ban doesn’t work on criminals.

  • Ziggy June 29, 2015, 8:52 am

There\’s a lot that should be said. I will say this: I live in upstate New York. We just got done with two escaped murders running loose. Was I worried? somewhat. But I have a German Shepherd dog and a gun (well, maybe more than one gun). Even so, I had absolutely no desire to take either one of those guys on. However, I would much rather take my chances in a gun fight than bare knuckles against two vicious killers as the \”Gun Control\” crowd would have it.

  • Mick Dodge June 29, 2015, 7:58 am

The anti gun crowd has amassed the most immense pile cut and paste rhetoric in history, waiting for each mentally challenged shooter to go ballistic in order to flood the airwaves over and again to bring about the very thing that could spell the end of the republic that houses them snug in their beds.
Frigging idiots cutting of their noses despite the necessity to smell what their crock of shit is cooking.

  • Joe June 29, 2015, 6:55 am

I still don’t understand why people think that guns are the issue, mental health is the issue and until we put insane asylums back on line we will continue to have these issues. Granted a gun won’t vote for you like the numerous nut jobs out there. But look at the facts and start publishing what meds these people are on as well if you are gonna tell me what gun was used and how many times it was shot. Start cracking down on big pharm and not my rights as a responsible gun owner.

  • We're Toast--Better Own A Gun June 29, 2015, 6:14 am

  • Will Drider June 25, 2015, 2:29 am

Without a gun you are at the mercy of others the do.
With a gun you can defend yourself.
With a gun you can defend your Freedoms and Rights.
With you gun you can defend your gun.
