Further Proof that Ted Cruz takes the 2A Seriously

Authors Interviews S.H. Blannelberry This Week

Daniel Terrill, editor-in-chief at Guns.com, got to interview Ted Cruz at the NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Terrill, a fan and friend of GunsAmerica, didn’t waste his opportunity as he asked Cruz, now a candidate for president, quite a doozy of a question on why he voted against a federal bill, the Manchin-Toomey amendment, that would have expanded background checks to cover private transfers and sales, including those made over the internet and at gun shows, despite it’s overwhelming popularity.

Cruz fired back with pure gold. A nuanced, historically-based answer that showed a depth and an appreciation for the Second Amendment that few politicians have. He’s a Texas Republican, so perhaps that’s what one might expect. But, even so, the fluidity of his answer and the fact that it was off the top of his head with no stammering or stuttering has to be admired.

“When it comes to Constitutional rights, what matters is what the Bill of Rights says. It doesn’t matter what might be popular at the moment,” said Cruz.

“We’ve seen regimes across the face of the earth come and take away people’s guns, strip away their rights to defend themselves and sometimes it’s been very popular. And yet it is an inevitable prelude to tyranny,” Cruz continued.

“The Second Amendment is there so you and I could protect our homes, our families, and our children and our lives. And it’s also there as a fundamental check on government tyranny and that ultimately is not subject to public opinion polls, it’s subject to the express protections of the Bill of Rights of the Constitution,” he explained.

Pretty solid stuff.  What do you think of Ted Cruz?

Yes, Ted not only gets it, he can articulate it better than anyone else in the chamber. His stance and messaging about the 2A….and all the others, has been consistent, firm, intelligent, and polite. That drives the progressive wannabe lords bat $hit crazy.
