Everyone knows the National Rifle Association, but have you heard of the National Association for Gun Rights?

I had heard of them, but never really corresponded with them. And after working as a gun journalist for quite some time now I felt it was about time that I reached out and learned what they’re all about.

So, here is a brief Q&A I did with Danielle Thompson, the organization’s Press Secretary. Consider it a sorta rapid fire introduction to the “fastest growing gun rights group in America,” which now has over 3 million members.

S.H. Blannelberry: Who is NAGR?

Danielle Thompson: NAGR is a gun rights organization and has led the charge to halt the radical anti-gun agenda across the nation. Accepting no compromise on the issue of gun control, NAGR works tirelessly to hold politicians accountable for their anti-gun views, and have made great strides in protecting and preserving the Second Amendment.

S.H. Blannelberry: What differentiates NAGR from other gun-rights organizations?

Danielle Thompson: NAGR is a grassroots organization, directly alerting members and supports across the country to legislation that affects them. Once we inform our supporters of how legislation will affect them, we urge them to take action by contacting their representatives regarding the bill. This political pressure put on legislators, through phone calls, emails, petitions, faxes and mail is how we were able to defeat last year’s raft of gun control bills and how we will continue to defeat the anti-gun lobby’s attempt to pass gun control.

S.H. Blannelberry: What is NAGR primary mission?

Danielle Thompson: NAGR’s primary mission is to defeat gun control, repeal gun control laws already in the books and pass pro-gun legislation.

S.H. Blannelberry: With the November election right around the corner, what is NAGR doing to help protect the 2A rights of law-abiding citizens?

Danielle Thompson: NAGR has a Political Action Committee (PAC) where we are able to endorse candidates and weaken those who are anti-gun. Our endorsements go along way when we can reach out to hundreds of thousands of voters in candidates’ districts.

S.H. Blannelberry: Where do you think the battle for gun rights is headed? Do you see more states moving in the direction of NY (SAFE Act) and CO (Mag limit, UBC mandate)?

Danielle Thompson: The Obama administration and the anti-gun lobby have vowed a renewed counter attack and we know we have to be ready for that next fight. We are always watchful for legislation aimed at registering our guns. It is never the role of the government to know which households are armed. The Second Amendment was founded to protect us against government tyranny and we will never lose sight of that fact.

S.H. Blannelberry: What is your message to gun owners who are interested in getting involved in NAGR?

Danielle Thompson: Our effectiveness in the battle against the gun grabbers depends entirely on the support of gun rights supporters. In just a few short years, the National Association for Gun Rights has become the fastest-growing gun rights organization in the country. We have over 3 million members and supporters. If you would like to become a member of NAGR or sign up for our email alerts, please visit www.nationalgunrights.org. We need to make sure we have the grassroots pressure to put on anti-gun legislators the next time they attempt gun control.

If some people will join the NAGR but won’t the NRA, it’s a good thing. I know some will join one or the other, thus weakening both organizations, and that’s a bad thing.

The NRA has been quite a disappointment to me over the last several decades. They seem to be all about compromise just like the republicans. I’m a life member of the NRA and long for the days when they were more hardline.
The NAGR is what I wanted the NRA to be. I suppose I’m a hard-nosed old curmudgeon but I believe in following the constitution to the letter. Here’s a copy of my signature block for my outgoing emails:

      Christian
      Constitution Party
      Ham: KK6LOP
2nd Amendment: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
Requiring a permit is an infringement. Forbidding certain types of weapons is an infringement. Barring weapons from certain areas is an infringement. The Second Amendment IS my concealed carry permit.

I will add one more point to that. Compromise is infringement.
      Chris.

Check out- SAF = Second Amendment Foundation -w/Alan Gottlieb
is a real Pitbull taking on the Left in court regularly; no rhetoric like the NRA.
        Though they finally are now able to be quoted saying;
“the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun”!
He’s written like 20 books and WON COUNTLESS 2-Amendment cases
including the 2 Supreme-Court victories for “Right to Carry” in DC and Chicago.
Whereas the NRA is the political critter. SAF is the legal creature fighting cases in court regularly.
Google Scoutens of “Shooting USA”(Outdoor Channel) interview with Alan Gottlieb at the Shot Show.
Skouten and Shooting USA is backing SAF 100% ~!

Oh and I’ve supported SAF for several decades because they not only show up for the fight,
they start the fight with un-Constitutional laws + infringement violations on all levels and win- (SAF.org)
Alan Gottlieb is a Pitbull for the 2nd; it takes dollars to do what they do at SAF, send’em a few bucks when U can ~!

I don’t see it as a bad thing at all. What I see as a bad thing is more than 90% of gun owners don’t seem to care about their rights. This includes both my brothers and their families, ( all involved in shooting sports ). I am a 40 year NRA member, and unlike others, I feel that they have done a pretty good job of protecting our rights. However, if people have a problem with their politics, feel free to join any other pro gun group. I despise apathy among gun owners. Ultimately that could be our undoing. I intend to check out the NAGR. If I like what I see I may join both.

So what’s wrong with being a member of both? I am a lifetime benefactor with NRA, and a proud member of NAGR too. And that was before I even saw this photo of Danielle Thompson too! LOL.
