In an effort to get candidates for political office to disclose how they feel about tougher gun laws, Everytown for Gun Safety unveiled a survey last month called the “Gun Sense Voter Federal Candidate Questionnaire.”
Now that the questionnaire — which inquires mainly about where a candidate stands with respect to expanded background checks that would include private transfers, particularly those made over the Internet and at gun shows — has been disseminated to politicians around the country, Everytown wants answers.
To get those answers, Michael Bloomberg’s gun-control outfit wants the public to pressure politicians into responding to those questions by any means necessary, e.g. social media, phone, email, etc.
To that end, Richard Martinez, whose son Christopher was slain during the Isla Vista, California, spree killing in May, penned this open letter:

After my son, Christopher Ross Michaels-Martinez, was shot and killed near UC Santa Barbara in May, I pledged to do everything I could to hold elected officials accountable for passing stronger gun laws.
If candidates for federal office want our votes, they have to make their positions clear on common-sense gun laws.
You can help by asking the candidates in your area where they stand on ten key solutions to gun violence in America. All they have to do is fill out the Gun Sense Voter Questionnaire.

We know where the public stands on common-sense gun laws. More than 90 percent of Americans support background checks on all gun sales.
Once we know where our candidates stand on these issues, we’ll combine that information with their prior statements, votes and co-sponsorships to mobilize Americans to support or oppose them at the ballot box this November and beyond.
But we can’t just assume candidates will respond unless we tell them to.

In response to Everytown’s survey, I wrote an article entitled, “The 10 Questions Everytown Should Have Asked on Its ‘Gun Sense Voter’ Questionnaire.”
I think my survey was infinitely more appropriate and sensible than Everytown’s. But you can be the judge of that.
I am sorry that his son was killed by a crazy criminal. However, if the criminal did not have a gun he would have found some other way to kill. You can’t legislate away crazy!
On his other contentions – he is doing NOTHING but spouting the liberal lies. I’ll cut him some slack as he is probably clutching at anything to make himself feel better – but the libtards that are feeding him the lies are nothing but a criminal conspiracy to take our rights. They start with guns – do they go after burgers next? Just look at the crazies in crapifornia.
The contention that “90 percent of Americans support” universal background checks … is pure, unadulterated, male-bovine excrement. It is an outright LIE, which is not based upon any scientific (verifiable, repeatable, peer-reviewed) study. Rather, it is based upon a quarter-century-old telephone survey (of only 251 people) that asked only about personal opinions.
Mr Martinez’ grief is evident in his emotional plea, but he (and all politicians) need to remember that the insistence that “we have to do something!” is not specific enough. We first have to find the RIGHT thing to do!
