Gun-Control Group Gets Major Hollywood Support with ‘Creative Council’

2nd Amendment – R2KBA Authors Current Events S.H. Blannelberry This Week

Everytown for Gun Safety, the gun-control organization funded by former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, is now officially getting support from a large swath of Hollywood elites.

On Tuesday, the group announced the formation of its “Creative Council,” which consists of artists, directors, producers, actors, etc., that all believe in erasing the “scourge of gun violence.”

Leading the group is actress Julianne Moore, who will serve as the chairwoman of the Creative Council. According to a press release, the core values and principles of the new arm of the gun-control organization are as follows:

  • We believe there are many common sense steps we can – and must – take right now to help save American lives from gun violence.
  • We believe we have a responsibility to help keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people – including convicted criminals, domestic abusers, stalkers, terrorists and people with dangerous mental illness.
  • We believe in gun safety – that we have a responsibility to store guns safely, unloaded and out of the reach of children.
  • We believe everyone has a role to play in reducing gun violence and that every action, no matter how small, helps bring us closer to a future free from gun violence.
  • We believe the creative community has an opportunity to use our communications skills and the power of culture to galvanize many more Americans in the gun violence prevention movement.

In a nutshell, they want to use their celebrity appeal to push Joe public into supporting measures that infringe upon the rights of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms. It’s a clever tactic that will undoubtedly pay dividends. I know of at least one organization that has had great success leveraging celebrity clout and influence to dupe credulous individuals into adopting its cause.

To combat this latest development, the National Rifle Association (or Gun Owners of America or The Second Amendment Foundation) needs to start recruiting Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Vince Vaughn and the other pro-gun celebrities in Hollywood — ASAP!

Like it or not, we live in an age of celebrity worship. Logic, reason, a cogent and succinct display of facts has no traction, sway or persuasive power over the public compared to the nonsensical blabberings of a Justin Bieber or Kim Kardashian. That’s correct. Facts don’t have the same pull that fame does. So, we either fight celebrity fire with celebrity fire or we’ll start losing major ground on this issue, particularly with millennials.

Sure, you can dismiss this if you like. But check out the platforms that young people go to to get their news: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook — and look and see who they’re getting their news from. It’s not Fox News or CBS or ABC. Heck, it ain’t even CNN. It’s not really any news organization, it’s from people like Julianne Moore, Alec Baldwin, Zoe Saldana — celebrities!

With that said, here are the stars that have joined the Creative Council so far:

JJ Abrams, Aziz Ansari, Judd Apatow, Christina Applegate, Kevin Bacon, Bob Balaban, Alec Baldwin, Elizabeth Banks, Ellen Barkin, Jason Bateman, Noah Baumbach, Kristen Bell, Kate Bosworth, Amy Brenneman, Jeff Bridges, Matthew Broderick, Ty Burrell, Steve Carell, Rosanne Cash, Josh Charles, Jessica Chastain, Don Cheadle, Sofia Coppola, Billy Crudup, Lee Daniels, Ellen DeGeneres, Laura Dern, Rachel Dratch, Kirsten Dunst, Michael J. Fox, Bart Freundlich, Jim Gaffigan, Greta Gerwig, Bill Hader, Chelsea Handler, Melissa Joan Hart, Todd Haynes, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ron Howard, Helen Hunt, Rashida Jones, Mindy Kaling, Donna Karan, Kim Kardashian West, Nathan Lane, Jennifer Lawrence, Spike Lee, Steve Levitan, Laura Linney, Aasif Mandvi, Seth MacFarlane, Katie McGrath, Debra Messing, Hasan Minhaj, Megan Mullally, Olivia Munn, Julianne Moore, Nick Offerman, Conan O’Brien, Ed O’Neill, Yoko Ono, Sarah Jessica Parker, Gwyneth Paltrow, Amanda Peet, Tracy Pollan, Mark Ruffalo, Meg Ryan, Zoe Saldana, Kristen Schaal, Amy Schumer, Adam Scott, Naomi Scott, Kyra Sedgwick, Sarah Silverman, Russell Simmons, Tim Simons, Michael Stipe, Liv Tyler, Reese Witherspoon, Jeffrey Wright, Sasheer Zamata

How about No guns in any movie or television shows and video games?

    Watch Hollywood dry up.

  • Michael R Stuhr December 1, 2017, 12:37 pm

No mention of mandatory sentencing no parole, no probation and no plea bargain for use of gun in crime and double mandatory time for repeat offenders.
That’s firearm legislation I can get behind.

    • James Fox December 2, 2017, 8:02 am

Amen to that 21 years as LEO in the NYPD and 20 after that as a instructor and training officer in a municipal police academy in another state , this is where the priorities in gun control should be focused

  • Rollin Shultz December 1, 2017, 7:26 am

Yes of course, then best way to stop violent criminals is to burden law abiding citizens with more laws. Yeah that’ll work. This gun control war will continue as long as MS media has even a shred of credibility with the public. Ending their influence should be our major focus.

Yes! Demand! Now! How many more schools? How many more malls? How many more houses of faith?
REMOVE all the gun-free-zones and signs! REMOVE all the safe spaces! National concealed carry reciprocity!
If these yahoos would just understand the simple fact that violence happens… A bad guy will use anything as a weapon! It doesn’t matter to him… He’s not going to follow the law anyway! That’s why they call him a CRIMINAL… He’s going to do something or take advantage of someone, and there will be no way to stop him. Let’s see how it turns if one of those ‘stars’ gets raped or mugged or stabbed or whatever and they could have stopped it IF they had the right tool…
Get a grip, hollyweird… You don’t matter that much, if at all! Just like the nfl – you get paid to ENTERTAIN, not preach! Sit down, shut up, do your job…

I am sure that the reasonable, common sense criminals (?) would agree with all these wealthy people who have spent their life using other peoples words that have been written on paper for them in make believe life. IT IS NOT REALITY. Their life is composed of a Disney dream world.

  • Rik P November 1, 2015, 10:56 pm

Hollywood elites?? I seen mostly has beens and never weres,.. Why would their detached version of society hold more wait anyone else’s.. Does everybody agree criminals will NOT obey the law? Does anybody think the government can protect you and your family if the Doo-doo hits the Fan? Does it really make sense to implement gun control on law abiding citizens, who have never committed a crime? Has anyone seen the statistics that show the targeted “assault rifles” are involved a very small percentage of shootings?. Anyone who knows the facts and has a brain in their head should see the illogical thinking here. I think very harsh sentencing for violent (gun) criminals and any facilitator of gun used in violent crime (straw purchasers). I mean its the criminals we punish, isn’t it?

  • Marcus Baird October 20, 2015, 9:29 pm

Well I see many who have and continue to make $$$ from movies that promote gun violence etc. I have stopped watching certain hypocritical stars in the past due to this and I will add more to that list now. Thanks for the heads-up and the list above!!

  • JEB October 20, 2015, 9:48 am

I watched what they want US to do, here’s what WE should demand of them…do that same video w each and every one promising never to do another movie or tv show that has a gun it! EVER. Lead by you’re convictions if you really feel this way.

  • AT October 19, 2015, 9:04 pm

When the “reasonable, common-sense” measures fail, you can bet the clamor will increase to “no one needs a gun”.
Since the ultimate goal of this organization is stricter gun control (up to and including legalized confiscation), I would ask all the above-mentioned “celebrities” to sign a simple pledge:
“I will forego owning or carrying a firearm of any kind, nor will I accept or pay for anyone providing armed security above and beyond taxpayer-funded law enforcement resources.”

  • Andrew N. October 19, 2015, 4:59 pm

Great article. Maybe they should join hands with the NRA, as it sounds like the same goals as they have been preaching for years. Gun Safety and strict laws and punishments for those breaking those laws. Now if they could just try to understand logic, and quit trying to disarm lawful citizens who help, not hurt the gun violence issues.

  • BigC October 19, 2015, 12:38 pm

And these douche-bags opinion means more than that of anyone else………..because??????
Maybe because they’re part of the 1 per-centers they hate so much!!!

  • RL October 19, 2015, 11:04 am

I think Cloony used to be on that list as well as a few others but they were called out because of the money they made over the years in action films that glamorize assault rifle or gun usage (all of which were PG or PG13 movies).
The truth is we need to fight this on the intelligent front and NRA needs to start posting a List of each member of the media and how many “Gun” films they were in or produced, and how much money they made in each film.

Next, the NRA has to do some research on all the crap found in homes of Adam Lanza and other sickos, which usually entailed movies and video games featuring these people or pictures taken on facebook trying to act like one of them…….
The Hypocracy runs deep in Hollywood.
Some of the people on this list are not really Hollywood types but borderline comics/has beens/wanna bees.
Notice, Steven Speilberg is NOT on the list.

  • RL October 19, 2015, 10:59 am

Limousine liberals. Hypocrites. I think its fair to tell them that as long as Hollywood abides by the same laws in their films that they make billions of dollars on then the rest of us will consider it.
In the meantime, almost all of these clows, (JJ ABRAMS????) have made tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars glamorizing the guy with the gun and teaching our youth that the good guy with the gun gets the girl and the glamour.
You can’t ignore that that is the movie mentality our kids have seen and grown up with and its certainly not the NRA that’s spreading that message.

  • George October 19, 2015, 9:54 am

The hypocrisy is just astounding: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tr37b-FYj8g

  • Bill October 19, 2015, 8:16 am

I’m a little surprised Liam Neeson isn’t on that list. I doubt there are many, if any, major actors who have made a better living with guns in his movies than him, while remaining an outspoken Brady-ite. Hypocrisy is alive and well in Tinseltown.

  • SuperG October 15, 2015, 11:06 am

I’d be willing to bet that all these people have body guards, gated driveways, security guards, etc. Because of the fact that they live in ivory towers, they have no idea what reality is. But one day they’ll be caught on the street by a gang of thugs, and as they are being ripped out of their cars, they’ll wish they had a gun to defend themselves. Afterwards, they’ll go arm up…if they are left alive.

  • Ken October 14, 2015, 8:08 pm

I pledge to not support any endeavors for the following people:

If you removed all of those people from the entertainment industry and placed them on a deserted island and cut all lines of communication to and from that island, the world would be a better place. I know there’s more but this list is a good start.

    • john english October 19, 2015, 8:19 am

Though it wouldn’t do an good, of course, but I plan to make a target out of a couple CD’s I have — using her ‘jacket photo’ won’t necessarily help and might be taken as a threat, but the small vinyl makes a good target and ought to carry a message that I won’t be buying any more of her CD’s . . . wonder what her dad would think . . . . .

  • Martin B. October 14, 2015, 5:37 pm

And just how many of these Hollyweird illuminati have derived much if not most of their incomes, from the use of weapons in their entertainment vehicles? How many are getting PAID by Bloomberg for stating their position?
No doubt they will also be getting behind Hillary’s nomination campaign. I hope the Police are only minutes away when they get robbed or murdered by criminals. Unless they have ARMED guards ensuring their safety, which I am sure many of them do. Which makes them kind of elitist. Armed guards for all!! Or we can just keep our guns. See the logic disappearing? Hypocrites, one and all. Don’t see their movies or buy their records.
