Handgun Etiquette for Beginners

Authors S.H. Blannelberry

Iraqveteran888 designed this video for neophytes and greenhorns. Yet, even for savvy gunslingers, cowboys and commandos, there are some helpful reminders on how to safely handle and use a handgun.

Okay, I’ll admit it. I’m guilty of slamming the slide.

So, tell me again how letting the slide “slam” home will damage a pistol whose operation requires that the slide “slam” home? Dear Lord, please protect me from self proclaimed experts.

Although I appreciate the thought behind this video its execution leaves a lot to be desired. If it’s intended audience was really beginners, I would have thought the first thing you would have done was teach the new people how to clear a firearm once you pick it up (and this doesn’t mean covering the muzzle with your hand). Which was done more then once! Ill give you the benefit of the doubt that you had previously cleared all those Firearms you had on the counter, but to the viewer that was never seen, so to teach a new person that the first time you pick a firearm up, as they do on shooting USA they act like they’re checking to make sure it is empty before they continue on with their conversation, hence setting a good example. Maybe reviewing a video, several times, before posting, so you can see if there’s any improvements on content or Firearm handling that could be made. This is nothing personal, I’m only pointing out what I saw.

Agree with Tatt2Jack. As a firearms instructor and frequent and long-time shooter, I never cover any part of my (or anyone else’s) anatomy when handling (and most importantly demonstrating the proper handling of) a firearm. To borrow from Jeff Cooper (GRHS), “all guns are always loaded.”
