Honor Defense Addresses ‘Drop Safe’ Issue, Offers Voluntary Upgrade

Honor Defense this week announced a voluntary upgrade for its popular Honor Guard pistol following concerns that the single-stack carry gun isn’t “drop safe.”

“Recent events indicate that handling an Honor Guard pistol beyond U.S.A. safety standards by dropping or striking the firearm with a hammer may cause an unintentional discharge,” said the Georgia-based company in a press release.

“As a result, Honor Defense has developed an upgrade to the Honor Guard striker assembly (within the slide),” it continued.

Current owners of Honor Guard pistols are encouraged to visit the website and follow the directions in the” Upgrade Section,” which will go live on Jan. 21, 2018.

Upon receiving a pistol, Honor Defense “will upgrade the slide” and “promptly return it to you.”

“This upgrade will provide increased drop performance beyond U.S.A safety standards and is available to all owners of an Honor Guard pistol,” says the company.

I’m glad they’re fixing the issue, which isn’t exactly unknown in older semiautomatic pistols (I remember a lady carrying a Llama ..380 in a supermarket with a round in the chamber dropping it from her purse… it hit the floor and promptly put one in her heart, killing her immediately. Condition One carry’s for holsters, not handbags.

As far as the “hammer” scenario, that adding that to the press release sounded like spin, the implication being “Oh, sure, if you drop it or bash the back of it with a hammer, it’ll go off!” No. Floating strikers are so 20th century.

So don’t drop it or hit it with a hammer. What a stupid thing.

I always DROP or strike my handguns with a HAMMER .Especially the expensive ,hard to come by ones. Don’t everyone? Be realistic. Abuse any dangerous item and you will find some fault.

It’s sad to see Companies having to dodge legalize crap because of money hungry shyster lawyers and people. You just can’t admit any fault or even hint at it, upgrade is the obvious option. I mean your not suppose to go around beating on and dropping your gun any way, at least not on purpose. Many companies test them that way for you!

Voluntary upgrade? Sounds like the same spin Sig put on their issue.

Glad to see this even if Patrick had to force the issue.

Well Patrick was only person on web that pointed it out and demonstrated it on his own honor guard pistol. I hope he does well at his new gig. The fire arm blog screwed him.
