Hornady Cuts Ties with New York Agencies After Government’s Anti-Gun Attacks

The State of New York has ramped up its historically anti-gun stance in recent weeks.

First, New York Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli sent letters to major credit card companies encouraging them to strangle gun transactions. Ten days later, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo followed suit, directing insurance companies and banks to “review” their relationships with the NRA and other “similar organizations” due to potential a “reputational risk.”

Now the gun industry has begun to fight back.

In response to Gov. Cuomo’s letter, Hornady announced last month its plans to stop selling its legendary ammunition to New York law enforcement agencies.

“Today, the State of New York did one of the most despicable acts ever perpetrated by any state by asking New York banks, financial institutions and insurance companies to stop doing business with the gun and ammo industry,” Hornady President Steve Hornady wrote.

“While it may not make a difference to New York, Hornady will not knowingly allow our ammunition to be sold to the Government of the State of NY or any NY agencies. Their actions are a blatant and disgusting abuse of office and we won’t be associated with a government that acts like that. They should be ashamed.”

It is unclear how many contracts Hornady currently holds with New York agencies, but the company recently inked an $11 million deal with the FBI to supply their 9mm+P Luger 135 gr. FlexLock Critical Duty ammunition. Given the popularity and effectiveness of that particular load, many of New York’s 514 law enforcement agencies likely had their eye on it.

Now, thanks to Gov. Cuomo, that ammunition will no longer be available to them.

The New York law enforcement community can also thank Financial Services Superintendent Maria T. Vullo, who articulated exactly the kind of big-money strong-arming that forced Hornady’s hand.

“Corporations are demonstrating that business can lead the way and bring about the kind of positive social change needed to minimize the chance that we will witness more of these senseless tragedies,” she said in Cuomo’s presser.

“DFS urges all insurance companies and banks doing business in New York to join the companies that have already discontinued their arrangements with the NRA, and to take prompt actions to manage these risks and promote public health and safety.”

The DFS, as the press release so helpfully reminds New York’s financial institutions, regulates more than 1,400 insurance companies with assets of $4.3 trillion. These include 200 life insurers, 1,100 property-casualty insurers, and 100 health insurance companies.

In other words, if insurance companies fail to follow Cuomo’s directive, the DFS can simply audit them into oblivion.

Hornady might be the first company to pull their business from blatantly anti-gun states, but hopefully they won’t be the last.

With all of this senceless verbiage centered around a inanimate object, why has no one asked the obvious question. “Who, or what is behind school shootings.”
We don’t see them in Switzerland where the people are required by their government to keep assault rifles in their homes. To have this many someone or some entity must be behind this. Yet no one mentions this fact.
After reading about how David ROCKEFELLER, and the CIA depose of political leaderd South America in the “Devils Chessboard”, and reading how the CIA does mind control on people in their MK ULTRA experaments. After looking at 100 years of TREASON by our federal government. It looks very much to me like its Wall Street the “Deep State,” The same entity that spends trillions of dollars of our money arming its self, want’s to dissarm the American people. I think the reason why is obvious.
    “Enslavement! “

I was fortunate enough to meet and spend the better part of an hour talking with Steve Hornady recently. He is probably one of the nicest, most knowledgeable people I’ve ever met…He even signed my vintage Hornady reloading manuals…Then my wife and me took their Plant Tour….Then they sold me some overrun bullets they had at extreme discounts. If you’re ever in Grand Island I highly recommend you take some time to drop by and say hello to the people at Hornady….They are great people…It’s time well spent…PS….The Harbour Freight store is right up the street…☺

Time for firearms & ammunition manufacturers to cut off these municipalities that are trying to put them out of business.

Barrett had the right idea when Kalifornia banned their .50 cal., refuse to sell to their law enforcement and end servicing them any longer.

I went out and purchased a .50 shortly after, awesome weapon.

I applaud Springfield Mossberg and Hornady if $$$ vote I vote for them

  • Chumly May 12, 2018, 2:07 am

Well since Ubama’s Operation Chokepoint was deemed illegal, the Cuomo/Bloombergsteinowicw crime families had to take matters into their own red hands.

    • Recon Dave April 15, 2019, 2:46 am

Crime family is the absolute correct term for Bloomberg and Cuomo!

  • Area 52 May 11, 2018, 6:13 pm

The problems; another ammo company will gleefully accept the business. Once a ammunition manufacturer sells its ammo to a distributor, they have little to no control over where the ammo will end up.

  • Roger & Karen Bryant May 11, 2018, 2:18 pm

Fools in NY put them in office. They want socialist dictators, socialistic dictators they will get. They will understand socialism when it really sets in. Then they will see how hard it is to get rid of it.

  • Richard Adams May 11, 2018, 1:26 pm

I think another possible choice would be to do the opposite. Say to New York State, “Hey, we are going to lower our prices for new State contracts by 20%.” Dare the State to be hypocrites or to be seen as a State who refuses to spend taxpayer money effectively.
Don’t back out of a market, flood it instead.

  • Paul May 11, 2018, 12:25 pm

The end result, if all gun and ammo manufacturers pull their products, will be NY (and any others) will have to buy their weapons and ammo from FOREIGN suppliers. Imagine that!

I’m sick and tired of dancing around the real issue here boys and girls. Everyday they push this or that anti American treasonous bullshit on us. Bottom line is we are in the middle of a maxist revolution to control the world, being waged on the ground by the foolish liberals in behalf of the, well we’ll just call them the atheist demon worshiping human parasites for now, what they want is to remove the nation states. To do that they have to merge us into the north American union just like Europe so they can control the masses with unelected technocrats and have total control of the worlds populations. Two things stopping them, the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Plan and simple and in your face. They get the guns, they get the open boarders they get the country. It all boils down to if the Good old USA falls so does the free world. This has been going on ALL of our lives, it’s just now ALMOST at a boiling point, we were born into this struggle. Sometime in the near future we all as individuals will have to make a choice if we’re going to do whatever we can to stop them, and they can be stopped. Embrace it, prepare for it, fight the good fight, fight on your terms and do battle on your chosen ground. And prey that God truly will bless America !

    • david May 11, 2018, 2:05 pm

Outstanding comment. “STAY LEFT OF BANG”

      “GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

  • David Brantley May 11, 2018, 10:26 am

I will never darken the door of Dick’s sporting goods or any other business that caves to the deluded anti-gun forces. Ditto for financial institutions and insurance companies.

  • Infidel762X51 May 11, 2018, 9:23 am

This is long overdue, no gun or ammunition company should sell anything to any state or local government within that state, or any local government that infringes on the rights of it’s citizens to own the same product.

  • Al May 11, 2018, 9:13 am

While I think this is a good step, I can’t help but think that many of the fine Line Officers in Law Enforcement of NY are now caught between a rock and a hard place.
Remember, most officers are just people, it’s their upper echelons and elected Bozo’s doing this to us.
Hornady is a premiere line for LE, it’s just stupid that the higher ups are so blindly stupid.

    • Penrod May 11, 2018, 2:38 pm

While I do agree with you, it is also true that LEOs are not draftees. They chose to work for their employers and they choose to remain. I feel sorry for those who have not qualified for pensions but have too much time in to just walk away.

Those of any occupation who consider the US and state Constitutions to be nothing but toilet paper get no sympathy from me.

    • Donald Crawford May 11, 2018, 3:45 pm

It is those same “just people” that put those idiots in office. Actions have consequences. Those same “just people” will not hesitate to enforce those draconian laws passed by their legislature. Those “just people” are part of the problem.

  • Phikl Rightler May 11, 2018, 8:50 am

Great idea! Need now to combat other anti-2A: Allstate Insurance, Arby’s, AT&T, Avis, Bayer, Budget Rental, Delta Airlines, Dick’s, Enterprise Rental, Expedia, Hertz Rental, HULU, Johnson & Johnson, Liberty Mutual Insurance, MetLife, Nestle, Rocket Mortgage, SimpliSafe, Sleep Number, StithFix, Trip Advisor, True Car, United Air, Wayfair. And while we’re at it, boycott anti-Ivanka Trump products: Belk, Burlington Coat, Century 21, HSN, Overstock, Ross, Saks, SteinMart, Wal*Mart, Wegman’s.

  • Marty Ashland May 11, 2018, 8:36 am

To coin a phrase, I think we can say that agencies like these as well as companies like Dicks, are really just “Shooting themselves in the foot.”

  • Hufreak May 11, 2018, 8:28 am

So consumers needs to respond and stop doing business with these insurance companies and banking. Move their business to the companies that are not going to be bullied by these states. What BS

    • Jim April 5, 2019, 9:08 am

Huffreak. Your name sums you up libtard

  • mike chizmar May 11, 2018, 8:16 am

What you are not reading about is that this type of ammo makes it safer for Law Enforcement to use to protect civilians. These bullets were designed so they don’t over penetrate and risk harm to others.

  • Ed Klein May 11, 2018, 8:09 am

THANKS Hornandy ! and NY state officials continue to prove they are complete morons, and lets call their actions what they really are; fascist in the true sense of the word. their governmental power abuse should not come as a surprise and was ramped up by the previous administration. I can only hope more manufacturers and consumers take action to reduce their interactions with all things NY state. Maybe the western and norther parts of the state will decide to succeed from the Ruling Party in the east.

  • Chuck May 11, 2018, 8:07 am

And that’s why I only buy Hornady.

  • Dr Motown May 11, 2018, 7:54 am

Let them buy cheap Russian ammo…when their guns start fouling and jamming at critical moments, the cop unions will tell Cuomo to shove his mandates up his arse

  • john May 11, 2018, 7:40 am

Hornady is the first…you want to see some changes, EVERY gun manufacturer, EVERY ammo maker do not sell your products in states like New York, New Jersey, California. That would have an effect but one company doing it is not going to do much except make a statement.

  • Kevin May 11, 2018, 7:27 am

i love seeing these companies ban people, places and companies that are against the NRA, guns, and the 2nd Amendment. Its not there place to tell me what i should or shouldnt buy so to hell with all these assholes!

i also really like that so many gun companies are parting ways with Dick’s Sporting Goods! i hope they go tits up in the near future and regret there own stupidity for the actions they have taken by listening to a bunch of crybaby children from Florida! school shootings are a tragedy but like the old saying goes GUNS DONT KILL PEOPLE, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE! what the hell is so hard about understanding that? a gun just sits there until someone picks it up and uses it for good or evil. cars have killed more people then guns ever will but why arent we banning them?

anyway, kudos to Hornady. i hope plenty of others follow there lead!

  • Tim May 11, 2018, 7:19 am

If all the Ammunition manufactures would do this to CA, NY, Chicago NJ, Etc. let them fight crime with tasers and nightsticks. I bet they would leave the gun industry alone. Some might say well they will bankrupted their business back to the same line, where are you going to get your ammo? China, Russia, Gov.?

  • Mike May 11, 2018, 6:53 am

I think Hornady should go one step further…..put a warning on every box
“THIS AMMO IS NOT TO BE USED IN THE STATE OF (NY)”.

So, if they do get their hands on it, Hornady can say “see, the liberals are violating our warnings”

    Ugh, liberals. Sheesh.

    • Victor May 12, 2018, 7:42 am

Amen! That would be a great way for Hornady to let the public know what the idiots in NY are doing. Maybe adapt it to say “Not to be sold to the State of NY, private citizen purchase only” so folks in Law Enforcement or private citizens who support Hornady can still buy it.

  • RoseFlorida May 11, 2018, 6:38 am

I don’t know if it is a trend, but when I buy online now I check to see where a company is located. For example I was about to buy a custom PC and changed my order when I saw the company was located in California. States such as California and New York claim that they pay out more in federal taxes than they get in return, and the difference goes to support Republican leaning backward states. But I see a steady stream of cash going into those two states from the rest of the country to support businesses that could be located anywhere.

    • Donald Crawford May 11, 2018, 3:55 pm

I’ve been doing that for the last three years. I’ll only buy from anti freedom states if the product is not available elsewhere.

  • Andrew May 11, 2018, 6:27 am

Cop worshippers and bootlickers will hate Hornady from now on.

Cuomo and his nys troopers need to get a taste of their own medicine

    • Jamie May 11, 2018, 6:57 am

Even Jesus thinks your statement is stupid.

  • Kelly Lee May 11, 2018, 5:21 am

“Hornady might be the first company to pull their business from blatantly anti-gun states, but hopefully they won’t be the last.”

Uh, didn’t Barrett stop selling to California years ago? As far as I know, they were the first.

  • Dilligaf May 4, 2018, 4:47 pm

Good! Disarm the communist New York, then New Jersey and then calicommiefornia. If they don’t want law abiding citizens to have firearms and ammunition, then no government agency should have them either
