Gun-free zones are soft targets for criminals, miscreants and other evildoers. Gun owners know that. But more often than not, government officials struggle to understand this reality.

Thankfully though, there are some city leaders who get it, who understand that you put more people at risk when you disarm them and prohibit them from exercising their fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

Case in point, the city council of Greenleaf, Idaho, which recently announced that it would place five donated signs around town to make it known that the citizens there are armed and willing to confront any threat that may come their way, reports the IdahoPress.

Greenleaf City Councilman Steven Jett explained why he spearheaded the effort to post the signs.

“Myself, as a city councilman, and apparently the rest of the City Council agrees that gun-free zones are targets,” Jett said. “If you look at the shootings that have happened, they are gun-free zones. Schools, malls and recently churches. I want people to know that this is not a gun-free zone, and we are not a target.”

Green leaf doesn’t have a local police department but instead relies on the Wilder Police Department, so already the citizens of the small town have a self-reliant mindset when it comes to public safety.

In fact, there is a city ordinance that encourages law-abiding citizens to seek proper gun safety training that was cited on the sign.

“We also cited that the Idaho Constitution states that the mayor of any city may call up anybody to enforce the law if they have to,” Jett said.

In the state of Idaho it is still unlawful for gun owners to carry around schools or federal buildings. But last year, state lawmakers expanded concealed carry rights to include public universities.

when Obama hears about this he will probably send in a drone and blow the whole town off the face of the earth. I thank your city for having the guts to stand up to this dictator who wants to disarm our wonderful and mostly free country. I pray for the day when that tyrant is taken our of the white house and given free room and board in a federal prison.

One thing has occurred to me. Why not create more gun free zones and then make it a felony to carry a gun there. Now wouldn’t that be a great way to take away our guns?

Good deal, finally some elected officials with common sense. Perhaps some small towns in Wyoming should take heed of what they did in Idaho, our neighboring State! Although to Wyoming’s credit, we do have legal open or concealed carry, no permit needed.

Idaho is still fairly good to live in as long as your not in Ada county. Boise stinks. Boundary county is God’s country, still. We love it here and don’t need more! Besides, the winters here aren’t for sissies.

This is why I love living in Idaho, I’d suggest those living in blue states who wish to escape Obamas Amerika consider moving here.

Hell yes! Now if we could just get some federal backing on stuff like this, conspiracies aside, it would be great if we lived in a nation that acted like this or something close to this as a whole. I’m especially intrigued about what it said about the Idaho constitution.
