‘iPhone Gun’ Wows and Worries

The Ideal Conceal pistol, aka “the iPhone Gun,” is a design that’s turning heads. The Ideal Conceal is a pistol that folds up into a rectangle about the shape and size of a cell phone, and is made to carry in any pocket safely and very discreetly.

Despite it’s cutting edge lines, it’s a relatively simple pistol, a two-shot derringer chambered for .380 ACP. The grip portion folds over the trigger guard and trigger, preventing the gun from firing unintentionally when it’s in its cell phone disguise.

Still in development, the Ideal Conceal won’t have conventional sights, instead, it has a built-in weaponlight and laser pointer for aiming. The simplicity of the design is expected to keep the price low–the Ideal Conceal has a projected MSRP of only $395.

In the past few years, modern takes on these pocket guns have proven that the concept is indeed timeless as concealed-carriers look for the ultimate mouse guns for deep concealment and backup. The Ideal Conceal neatly embodies the spirit of the 21st-century derringer.

And while many people are getting excited for the Ideal Conceal, others are looking to restrict its sale. New York Senator Chuck Schumer (D) is asking the ATF to restrict sales of the Ideal Conceal by classifying it as a National Firearms Act-regulated AOW or “Any Other Weapon.”

Schumer, an outspoken advocate for increased gun control, slammed the Ideal Conceal, saying that “this iPhone gun is a disaster waiting to happen” in a statement Monday.

“Just like toys that too much look like handguns should not be sold, handguns that look too much like toys should not be sold,” he added.

An AOW defines a broad spectrum of NFA-regulated firearms but in this case, Schumer is looking to have the Ideal Conceal to be restricted in the same way that wallet guns, cane guns, zip guns and pen guns are.

Whether or not the ATF will declare that the Ideal Conceal is an AOW is another matter. One critical difference between wallet guns and other disguised firearms and the Ideal Conceal is that they are all made to shoot while disguised. The Ideal Conceal cannot be shot in cell phone mode, only when the pistol grip is extended.

While the will have to weigh in on the issue when the Ideal Conceal is in production and ready for sale, it would be surprising if they classify it as an NFA-regulated AOW. At least one other example of a non-NFA-regulated pistol in disguise exists, the Braverman “Stinger” Pen Gun.

Although typically pen guns are considered AOWs the Stinger only functioned after being transformed into a pistol by folding down the grip. Because the Stinger bore the outward appearance of a handgun–odd looking as it was–it was not classified as an AOW.

In “gun mode” the Ideal Conceal is hard to mistake as anything other than a pistol, and a sleek, contemporary one at that.

If there’s one thing that isn’t surprising about this it’s that gun control advocates will not hesitate to use whatever tools they have at their disposal to make it harder for people to buy guns.

    I want one

  • Chuck Roast April 12, 2016, 9:05 am

Heck, there is already a five shot cell phone firearm (it just doesn’t have a grip) and has been around for a long while now.
Nothing that Chuckie Schumer was wailing about has come to pass (i.e., some kid getting hold of one and mistaking it for a phone and a negligent discharge takes place).

  • Edward Wood April 10, 2016, 12:54 am

I can get a holster for my .380 that does the same thing.

  • ejharb April 9, 2016, 1:19 pm

Schmuck Schumer has been a statist scumbag citizen disarmament a hole since I was a kid.
Oh yes Donald Trump donated 10s of thousands of dollars to said scumbag.
And I don’t particularly care if tactical hipsters don’t like this weapon there’s a place for it like there’s a place for almost all handguns as long as it is reliable

    • Greg April 9, 2016, 5:14 pm

I’m not a Trump fan, but let’s understand the reasoning behind every business person’s political donations. A business person, especially one like Trump, has to depend on support from as many senators and congressmen as he can, shall we say buy off. It’s just good business. In Trump’s case, nobody can realistically buy him off.

      • Scott April 14, 2016, 8:33 am

Greg – Trump is a self proclaimed part of the system that buys and sells influence. I was going to call you naive, but the correct description is willfully ignorant. I say this because Trump has told you, and everyone else, what he is about and yet people still defend him and put words in his mouth to try to make what he said sound better. He not only can be bought, but he fully expects to be paid off in the manner that he has paid off so many in the past. He admits to doing it and has given no indication of wanting to stop it. You and everyone else that constantly put this misinformation out, about Trump, should really look past his arrogant mumblings to see what he is really all about. If your reply is that he doesn’t need the money, then you are also very naive.

  • sixgunner April 9, 2016, 12:32 pm

As for bad guys sneaking this past airport security or a LEO pat down, NEWSFLASH: If a cell phone weighs over a pound and can’t be turned on it might be a gun!

  • Sixgunner April 9, 2016, 12:27 pm

Yawn. Just another toy to bring the antis to a froth.
If you’re a CCW holder, how and why would you carry this? In addition to your cell phone? Oh, wait a minute while I unfold and cock my , ah, gun before you attack me. Wait, just another minute while I try to get a grip on this thing.

Seriously, Get a real gun and buy and ankle holster if IWB is uncomfortable..

    • dittohd June 1, 2016, 1:26 am

CCW is not about quick draw or being able to get to fast. It is about having a chance to defend yourself. 1st thing in a situation is to hid yourself and wait until you can get your weapon out without the bad guy seeing you do it. Not everyone wants to carry something that is bulky so, you carry what you want and we will see if anyone buys this. It may be just what a lot of people are looking for as they have no place to carry a weapon. This is not your problem. I would be glad to have a hundred people carrying this if a bad guy tried to rob a store I was in.
      Dittohd

  • James M. April 9, 2016, 1:50 am

Here it is broken down. Would I buy it? No. Who am I to say what a law abiding citizen should own firearm wise? I’m not. When we allow our politicians to ban weapons we are giving up. We have the second amendment to protect us for a reason. We should have the ability and right to own and operate any weapon our government possesses. What if a kid gets a hold of it? Punish those responsible. What works for me, and what I believe is best for me to own and or carry doesn’t mean that it is best for everyone. Each of us has our own choice. Let me choose for me, and you choose for you. United We Stand, Divided We Fall. And they are doing a DAMN good job keeping us divided.

    • Gary April 12, 2016, 9:03 am

Couldn’t agree more my friend!! VERY well put!

  • George Washington April 8, 2016, 11:57 pm

Looks like a cute toy. I can still put my concealed carry on my ankle that holds 8 rounds of .380 so I wont be purchasing one of these neat little cell phone guns, but what a great idea. Hey Chuck, park your shitty attitude and congratulate Americans for coming up with such a great invention/idea. TRUMP 2016!

    • ejharb April 9, 2016, 1:22 pm

      Trump who contributed to schumer.
That sir makes you one of his favorite people, the uneducated.
It can be fixed if you choose,,,,
Stupid can’t be fixed only disarmed.

  • Michael B April 8, 2016, 4:40 pm

Much ado about nothing. Within months of the very first wireless phone, we had handguns manufactured that looked like wireless phones. They were widely available, and every LEO intelligence network made cops aware of the threat.

Yes, cops shoot people early and often because some people are NON COMPLIANT. Any item in the hands or pockets of a non-compliant subject can maim or kill an officer or any other bystander.

This new device will be workable as a 2 Shot gun, and will almost certainly be engineered and tested before release to be ‘safe’ for the person carrying it. Accuracy will be poor, but effective at 1 to 5 meters.

It will be detectable by standard wands and magnetometer checks and by X-ray. It is no more dangerous than existing 200 yr old Derringers.

    • jimonthebeach April 9, 2016, 12:56 am

On what planet do you live? Cops don’t shoot people “early and often;” they rarely even draw their guns in their entire law enforcement career. I spent more than 20 years as a street cop and a detective. I never shot at anyone. I knew cops who were on the job 30 years who never pointed their guns at anyone, let alone ever shot anyone. And when a police officer does shoot at someone, it’s not for “noncompliance.” It’s because their lives or the lives of some innocent person was in imminent danger of death or grave bodily harm. You need to get your head out of the TV, ignore the lies perpetrated by BLM and start reading a good newspaper. I carry a pistol every time I leave the house as I have for several decades now. IMHO, a $300 two-shot .380 pistol, the size of a cellphone, is a solution in search of a problem. There are plenty of more powerful pistols that are smaller and easier to conceal for the same price. This is just a silly gimmick that won’t fool anyone.

      • Scott April 14, 2016, 8:52 am

Then don’t buy one. It isn’t designed to “fool” someone. It is designed for someone that wants to discreetly carry when wearing clothing that offers little to no concealment. If I choose to purchase this gun and it allows me to carry in situations that I normally wouldn’t, then it is good for me. You statements about non-compliance shootings is tough to defend when you watch videos of cops shooting unarmed persons while running away from them, or while being ordered to crawl towards them on the hotel floor, or while pulling them over because money came off the roof (wallet left there from gas stop) and ordering a family of 4 out at gun point and then shooting their family dog (who the father tried to keep in the car but the cop threatened to shoot him) with a shotgun (very small dog that the bad ass cop claimed was attacking him). There are enough cases to show that police are typically not mentally prepared for the work that they perform. This is a lack of training, discipline and accountability. You see it all the time when they finally catch someone. They will continue to beat a non-resisting person because they can’t control their emotions.

  • foxtrot26 April 8, 2016, 4:07 pm

Cops now murder on almost a daily basis. If they are so scared maybe they should do something else, like fireman, if they need the buzz. Leave my rights alone. Has anyone else noticed that in large-ish protests there is usually an “Operator” on site. posse comitatus is just an illusion

    • BUURGA April 8, 2016, 6:22 pm

Exactly WHO are cops murdering on a daily basis and where?

      • John April 9, 2016, 12:09 am
        • Greg April 9, 2016, 5:33 pm

John, what was the point of posting the Police Misconduct web page? If it was to show police shooting people on a daily basis, you need to read it over as I did. Yes, it showed an average of about a dozen dumb a$$ things LEO’s do, mostly sexual assault violations and the only shootings I saw in a weeks time period was a few cops or deputies who shot their wives and that was when they were at home. foxtrot26 is dead wrong! jimonthebeach is absolutely right on. As a former LEO from a major US city, I only had to draw my weapon twice and never had to fire it, except at the range, which I did on a regular basis.

      • Robert Gropp April 10, 2016, 12:38 pm

American citizens. Have you not watched the news and seen how cops are mudering citizens and executing suspects by shooting them in the back and being caught lying about what happened on an almost daily basis? I’m a strong conservative libertarian and this is an attack on everyones rights and freedoms as Americans. Conservatism is about freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and what the police are doing is an assault on all that conservatives value. Since when is running from the cops a capital offense? Don’t even get me started on the police and their abuse of civil forfeiture and the the war on drugs. Police in this country now feel that the laws that apply to citizens don’t apply to them and they are above the people they took an oath to protect and serve. Soldiers rately make good policemen. We need big wholesale changes in law enforcement in this country and we need police and prosecutors to be held accountable for their actions and wrongs against the public. We need separations between the prilosecutors and the police. What is going on now goes against what America stands for and was built on. Now the citizens fear the police instead of trusting them and that’s is not right and it’s not what America stands for.

  • Steve Perry April 8, 2016, 2:04 pm

Neat toy but in all seriousness, what are you going to do with a short barrel .380 exact tickle the bad guy and piss him off…you better hit other than critical mass..

    • BUURGA April 8, 2016, 9:42 pm

A 9mm short at point blank range is no tickle. It is deadly. It is no toy.

      • srsquidizen April 9, 2016, 7:12 am

Yep at the range this thing would likely be used (say less than 6 inches from perp’s ear, aorta, genitals, or kneecap) even a .22 would have them either dead or writhing on the floor in way too much pain to be interested in more criminal behavior.

  • dvy April 8, 2016, 1:44 pm

Good going Chuck-u-Schumer you just gave the gun company a million dollars in free ads. I want one.

  • ollie Woodard April 8, 2016, 1:13 pm

Just another James Bond type weapon. Remember cigarette, shoe, cane, car, etc. etc.

  • rappini April 8, 2016, 12:50 pm

The only way Chuckie can get any attention these days is to attach 2a and guns of any kind.

  • Ron April 8, 2016, 12:42 pm

Ole Chuckey hasn’t been in the “news” for a while. Had to open his stupid asswipe trap again for nothing.. Chuckey, The Sky is Falling Again, Stupidmer opens his lying mouth again. Typical gun control nutcase like Hitlery and Wild Bill and Odumbass..

  • Jesse April 8, 2016, 12:21 pm

I want one! Want one want one want one..

  • Robert Sweeney April 8, 2016, 11:51 am

When I was a kid I was a James Bond nerd. I loved everything “spy” and had all the toys. Remember Six Finger? A plastic dart gun shaped like a human finger. So cool! They didn’t have cellphones back then, but if they had, a toy cellphone-gun would have topped my Christmas list. But that was then and this is now, and James Bond is fiction and this is real life. Except as a children’s toy, I see no practical use for this design. A 2-shot derringer that has to be assembled before it can be used is an idiotic concept for a gun that will only be used during an immediate life-threatening situation. Fine motor skills tend to go out the window at such times and just deactivating a safety can lead to a fatal error, and someone thinks having to fold open the grip and lock it into place is a good idea? And then there are drawbacks already mentioned: thieves targeting cellphones; cops mistaking real cellphones for guns, etc. The only useful idea here is a gun that doesn’t “print” like a gun when carried in a pocket. Great idea. But Taurus has already done it. The Taurus Curve prints like a wallet or cellphone, has built-in laser and weapon light, and holds 6+1 rounds of .380, not just 2. Handling is pretty much the same as any .380 pocket pistol, and according to every review I’ve seen it goes bang evertytime the trigger is pulled. The price is in line with this thing, too. For now, my Bodyguard .380 in a pocket holster gets the job done and I’m not in the market for a “spy gun”, but if I were, the Curve would make more sense to me than this silly cellphone gun.

  • Larry April 8, 2016, 11:47 am

Two rounds from a 380? For $400.00? Spend a little more & get a real gun that can save your life in a pinch.

  • MeeesterPAul April 8, 2016, 11:31 am

This is not the first one of this kind. Check this link out.
    https://cryptome.org/handy-gun.htm
That should show that because it exists doesn’t mean it will boost crime. I never heard of that one until I searched pager and cell phone pistols

  • Duck_Man April 8, 2016, 11:22 am

Schumer is filling the typical stereotype New Yorker role. A corrupt power hungry person (maybe mafia tied) who wants the public defenceless while he and his goons are armed to the gills. Makes control easier. I personally think any person ESPECIALLY politicians who say guns are wrong should be forced to surrender all of theirs as well as their right to purchase/own them forever. Basically what the are trying to force us to do correct? Leaders lead by example not by force.

As for this firearm in question, I want one for novelty factor as I do not see them being on market for long. They already make the pen gun that’s mentioned and foldable revolvers that look more like a knife when folded and in pocket. As for self defense in a robbery situation, most theifs take cell phones along with jewelry and money. It probably would just arm the criminals with more firearms. Maybe I am wrong, just my opinion.

  • Beenthereanddonethat April 8, 2016, 11:07 am

As a LEO with over 30 years experience, in patrol, undercover, anti terrorist investigations and tactical. I have been present during many situations where people have tried to gain access to secure areas while trying to conceal a so called novelty gun. Bet the novelty wears off very quickly once someone gets shot with one.(Oh yeah, not one of them was a law abiding citizen, imagine that).
    I can honestly say this.
The question shouldn’t be wether or not this is an “AOW” type issue. It should be does the need for such a weapon that can easily be concealed as a cell phone meet the standard of protecting ones self from an attack or does it in fact allow a would be attacker an opportunity to conceal a weapon which will allow for ease of access to and death of someone with more weapons. It is not a weapon of mass murder true, but then again neither were the box cutters used by the hijackers in the September 11, 2001 attacks. Single use weapons which allowed for access to weapons of mass destruction.
Oh, and by the way. For those of you who only see it as a tiny little .380 cartridge. Why not put one to your temple pull the trigger and respond to my comment.

    • Star April 8, 2016, 5:00 pm

It is an arm which is kept and born, therefore it is 2nd Amendment defined, case closed.

  • Mark Tercsak April 8, 2016, 11:07 am

It reminds me of the Matt Helm Camera Gun , Jimmy Bond style Spy Stuff.

  • Duane April 8, 2016, 10:50 am

All lthis hullabaloo about nothing. I wish Schumer would focus on something worthwhile. He’s a career politician. Does that tell you anything? I’m going to wait until they come out with a 70″ flat screen LCD in .44Magnum before I run out to the store!

    • Chief April 8, 2016, 11:29 am

I’m going to wait until they come out with a 70″ flat screen LCD in .44Magnum before I run out to the store! Hahahaha that one killed me 🙂

  • Kenny smith April 8, 2016, 10:43 am

Wow lol wtf. What about the pager gun. Why not make another Dumbass gun to get kids shit while playing with what thay think is a phone. Stupid idea.

  • James B. Towle April 8, 2016, 10:42 am

I don’t care what Politician likes it or does not like it. It is a stupid idea anyway for all the reasons given and more! Remember the “shoe bomber”….now just one more reason to delay you at the airport!

  • Mustang Man April 8, 2016, 10:33 am

Sure build it and when they are sold then the FBI should immediately send out officers to arrest any buyer as a potential terrorist. that is the only thing this is good for and anybody that supports the building or owning of this thing should be considered a possible terrorist. I spend enough time in airport security lines now. I do not want to stand around even longer because some idiot gun owner thinks he is playing 007. There are plenty of small, concealable handguns available currently for someone who really thinks they need to carry in the first place. I highly support placing the designer and the company looking to produce it under high scrutiny as suppliers of terrorist weapons. This has gotten out of hand.
I’m sure this posting will bring me lots of conspiracy wacko responses. fell free but don’t expect any responses to your idiot mentality theory’s of rights etc etc etc. I have a right to not fear some a-hole shooting me with his i-phone gun because he felt I cut him off for the ammo sale at Cabealas ( as if they ever have any real sales anyway LOL)

    • joe April 9, 2016, 12:00 pm

And you have the nerve to call out others for foolish mentality, perhaps reread your comment and include yourself in that category .

    • ejharb April 9, 2016, 1:30 pm

Can’t fix stupid but I can hope it grabs it’s chest and takes a dirt nap.
      Scumbag statist!

  • Bill Conner April 8, 2016, 9:34 am

I have to agree with Schumer on this, though I dislike the man as an opportunistic, vile political pariah. This is in every way an NFA weapon. It puts far too many people at risk. As a 30+ ur Police Officer and NRA Benefactor manner, I want this type of weapon banned completely.

    • Mark Keane April 8, 2016, 10:10 am

Yes this is a weapon, Sen. Schumer and Bill Conner both carry guns or have body guards, so why can’t the people. I do believe in gun control to a certain degree but why is it the two have a right to protect themselves and their families we don’t?

This type of hand gun is a concealed carry, two shots, most likely not accurate and will not create mass murder. What is Sen. Schumer and Bill Conner really worried about? In Dupage County Illinois, as a regular Joe, we can’t bring in cell phones into court but everyone else that works there can. I cell phone taking pictures and video is more dangerous than 2 38 bullets.

Video cameras are catching cops shooting people in the back, with their hands up and skipping down the street, but we can’t have a concealed carry gun?

      • John Songer Jr April 8, 2016, 11:09 am

  • Alan April 8, 2016, 9:31 am

Well of course! And I would point out that Schumer declared the Countrywide increase in CC a “disaster waiting to happen” too.
That it would be like the “wild west”. Which we all know, wasn’t so “wild” after all.
In fact, crime has decreased in ALL areas where CC has been ‘allowed’, so from this we can all come to the realization that Schumer doesn’t know Jack.
Strange isn’t it? If a Conservative came out against something they cared about (AGW, anyone?) and couldn’t prove their claim, our ‘Media’ would be all over their inability to prove their stance and question that persons reliability.
Yet Schumer is the proverbial duck when it comes to his claims about gun ‘violence’.
Schumer and our left wing media, proving that if you tell lies often enough with your co conspirators, the useful idiots of the world will believe you.

    • Greg April 9, 2016, 5:53 pm

Good point, Alan, and let’s never overlook or forget that all mass killings have been in “gun free” areas. When the bad guys, even the ones who are for some reason considered mentally challenged, know that there’s no opposition (no one with a gun), they know they can charge in and kill as many as they can.

  • Vincent_Vega April 8, 2016, 9:30 am

I think I’ll stick to my .45 and backup 38

  • Gingerbaker April 8, 2016, 9:30 am

This crappy gun is a really terrible idea. It gives all cops an excuse to shoot you if they even see a phone now. Can you think of a more stupid design? Can you?

Schumer is right – this should not come on the market.

  • Gary M April 8, 2016, 9:30 am

Schumer is forgetting one very important fact: This proposed design is limited to two bullets. Hardly something to commit a mass shooting with. Rather, Schumer and others should focus on enforcing the laws already on the books rather than trying incessantly to deny law abiding, permit holding citizens from exercising their 2nd amendment rights. But, that’s not their intent. Their REAL ultimate intent is to ban private ownership of guns, period. That is why this upcoming election is SO IMPORTANT!

  • William April 8, 2016, 9:27 am

Don’t ban anything, but Democrats? Let the market deside. This will be the perfict gun for someone.

The perfect carry gun has not been made!

    • Charlie King1 April 8, 2016, 11:16 am

Finally, a reasonable response…let the market decide. I don’t think this idea will take off. I’m also appalled at the RKBA supporters actually agreeing with Sen. Schmuck Shoomah. Do not give this guy any quarter. Do not allow him to showboat on any of our rights. He’s the one that’s a pariah on our rights and our tax dollars.

As far as this becoming a terrorist or potential terrorist weapon, really? Come on guys, there are other ways and I don’t think the terrorist will stop to use a two-shot .380 that looks like a cell phone. There are better and more diminutive pistols that would serve a terrorist’s purpose better than this weapon. Oh, and I’m not siding with the terrorists; I’m just looking at tactics as a retired 30+ year LEO veteran.

      • David K. April 8, 2016, 1:44 pm

Completely agree. I think in practical terms that it’s a novelty at best, but hell, it might make some hipsters very happy, and might be the only thing “neato” enough for them to even consider owning a gun. I’m all for anything that draws more people into the firearms community, even if I disagree with their politics, and even if the design looks like an ergonomic nightmare. I haven’t heard any of this outrage over the Heizer pocket pistol, which is now available in 7.62×39 and 5.56×45. It’s amazing how selective people are about what upsets them. I work (contractor) at a Federal LE facility, and they’ve sent out warnings about this particular gun, but for the life of me, I don’t see why there would be more concern over this design than any of the myriad choices already available with higher capacity and more effective calibers. Much ado about nothing, as usual. Now, on with the hand wringing…

  • Brian April 8, 2016, 9:15 am

Small .380’s are SNAPPY and hard to fire accurately even in conventional configurations. This design while being better than NOTHING would be even harder to control due to the small and thin grip. An iphone is one of the first things that most robbers WANT. So making a gun that looks like one, only increases the possibility of putting more guns in the hands of criminals. They expect to steal your phone, but instead wind up getting a GUN, which they might end up using against YOU. Carry a regular gun instead. No FUMBLING around trying to open this thing and much FASTER to shoot with accuracy and with higher capacity. This may SEEM like a clever idea, but it could cost you your life. In a real life robbery you don’t have TIME to fool around with this TOY. Invest in a Beretta 950 instead – if you want a small gun that is easy to conceal and shoot accurately.

  • KIM April 8, 2016, 9:07 am

I’m glad all of you Monday morning Quarterbacks are making decisions on what type of gun I need to carry, it is costing you nothing for this Company to manufacture it, oh why don’t they just make it in a 500 mag., really guy’s just S.T.F.U.

  • lilbear68 April 8, 2016, 9:01 am

not that I would ever buy one of these but my questions is, if the guy is a legal CCW holder then how would this be illegal or a problem? CCW by definition means no one knows, know one sees

    • Vanns40 April 8, 2016, 9:18 am

Oops, might want to reconsider that comment. Best should the purchaser have to have a concealed carry permit? Do we require that for small derringers? It’s a gun, anyone who is not proscribed by law from owning a gun should have no restrictions in buying one.

  • Michael J. Taggart April 8, 2016, 8:54 am

Schumer needs to crawl back under the rock he came from. He’s a loser with waaaaaaay too much time on his hands! He needs to address the disaster of NY instead of meddling with the 2nd Amendment. Another waste of $$$$$$$$ at the public trough! We need to get his lame ass off the public trough!

  • hillaryshairychest April 8, 2016, 8:48 am

sometimes I wonder what it must be like to be a Liberal Dem. Its gotta be a really hard life. I mean, Can you imagine having to live every single minute of every single day of your life with the constant fear that any one of the people around you may be armed for their own protection? THAT has got to be really taxing on the poor little sissy-liberal mind.
Then there’s the constant blocking out the truth, ignoring facts, picking apart everything others say and do to find Racist or Xenophobic things to lash out at them about, And taking EVERYTHING a non Liberal says way out of context and making a huge scene about it…. Man that’s got to be truly exhausting, is it any wonder most Dems don’t have jobs? All that protesting, looting and rioting, all the going to Trump rallies and causing trouble, all the crime and looking for ways to cheat and rob…and the constant lying and making up fake facts, storming away from arguments when confronted with facts, telling everyone else how educated you are and they aren’t.
I guess in some weird way, dems, libs, progs…whatever name they use, are actually working really hard, harder than it seems, to screw up America more and more every day!

  • imnevergivingin April 8, 2016, 8:30 am

    Also:
Will the FBI be trying to crack these as well?
Can I check my Email on it?
Does it come with Angry Birds?
Can we buy Ammo for it from ITunes or the App Store?
Will my Otter box for my I phone 6 fit this as well?

  • igotguns April 8, 2016, 8:26 am

yeah because every mass shooter is gonna run right out and buy a two shot .380 and go on a spree….lol I think
that Senators who are Complete D-bags like Chuck Schumer should be banned!
Seriously, How about getting this country back on track again before worrying about something like this!

  • doug banik April 8, 2016, 8:25 am

Let’s look at this rationally: if a bad guy can’t tell if an iPhone is a gun or not, neither can a cop. The sale of this item puts cops at risk. Police officers are often called upon to make split second decisions while under extreme stress and possibly at risk of their own lives. The existence of this weapon could lead an officer to hesitate when in harm’s way or, just as bad, erroneously fire upon someone (anyone?) possessing a cell phone. This is truly the dumbest idea to come along in years. (And I haven’t even mentioned the possibility that children love to play with cell phones.)

    • igotguns April 8, 2016, 8:54 am

If that’s the case, ANY of the so called “pocket guns” are dangerous to cops. they sell cases for guns like the RUGER LCP .380 (Semi auto, 6 in the mag, 1 in the chamber) that when used, looks like a wallet, but its got a hole in it to access the trigger and another hole where the round will come out. Then there are cases you’d wear on your belt that resemble a cell phone case that these guns fit into nicely. The whole object of Conceal Carry is to… Conceal what you are Carrying… because if god forbid someone sees that you are armed, the whole world may come crashing down.

    • Tucker April 8, 2016, 9:02 am

Bull. Only if you intended to get shot would you approach, turn or greet a police officer with anything in your hand but a set of fingers.

      • Charlie King1 April 8, 2016, 11:23 am

So true, thank you for this refreshing bit of common sense. There are many cases where people have been shot by the police because they had a cell phone in their hand. For the nay sayers out there saying that the cops should be able to distinguish a cell phone from a pistol in someone’s hand…I challenge you to set up a scenario in a low-light setting using only your finger for a pistol and the other person holding a black cell phone. Yes, you can use your flashlight if you’re playing the role of the police officer. Let me know how you fare…

    • Vanns40 April 8, 2016, 9:24 am

I’ll just address the “children’s” angle you mentioned. Hey, kids like to play with knives, screwdrivers, ANYTHING. That doesn’t mean you ban it. Geez, come on. Talk about a nanny state. Take some responsibility for educating your children and keeping them away from dangerous items.

    • Jay Simkin April 8, 2016, 9:24 am

If the device looks like a phone, then the trigger is covered by the grip, and the derringer cannot be fired. As such, it poses no threat to anyone. In a confrontation, peace officers generally order a person – who may be a threat – to “show me your hands”. Those, who are rational will AT ONCE drop anything they hold and extend their hands – palms facing the officer. The officer then knows that the person is: (a) not a threat and (b) is compliant, i.e., will respond properly/reasonably to the officer’s instructions. The officer can then do whatever the situation suggests should be done.
If a driver is pulled-over at night, it is a good idea to: (a) turn on the interior light or lights; (b) open the window; (c) extend one’s hands through the open window or (d) put one’s hands atop the steering wheel and keep them there until the officer gives permission to move them. A driver, who does these things, signals to the officer a willingness to comply with the officer’s instructions, even before the officer has exited his/her patrol car. These actions will help to ensure a quiet outcome to the “meeting”.

    • Rex Dickerson April 8, 2016, 9:25 am

Your look is far from rational. As a matter of fac, it is hysterical. A threat to cops? If you’d read the article or looked at the accompanying photo, you would know the gun cannot be fired in “cell phone” mode. The trigger guard-grip must be pulled down to engage firing. How many bad guys do you imagine will purchase the iphone gun? My guess is near zero. Kids love to play with cell phones? Silly. Kids love to play with guns too. You may now return to Uncle Chuckie’s lap Doug.

      • Joe April 9, 2016, 12:39 pm

As a formal federal agent, I was all but put in front of a swing pocket watch and told to fear every single person, in every single scenario, with every single potential weapon, which as well all should know is literally any item you can hold. So to bring up this nonsense that it puts cops in danger is BS and it only serves to distort the discussion. Officer safety should NEVER, EVER, EVER, be even mentioned in whether a citizen, who is not otherwise precluded from owning a weapon, should be allowed to have any weapon. It’s totally irrelevant. So your so right in telling this sheep he is hysterical as he fears every little monster the government tells him is hiding under his bed.

    • Z April 8, 2016, 9:46 am

Police officers in this nation have alread shot citizens, “armed” with nothing more than cell phones. It’s a spurious argument to claim this new device would cause officers to hesitate.

  • Larry S. April 8, 2016, 8:19 am

Nothing new here…once again “Chuck the Schmuk” proves that he never met a firearm that he didn’t hate! If it was up to Chuckie and his left-wing loonies, we’d be chucking (no pun intended) rocks at the bad guys.

  • RG April 8, 2016, 7:58 am

Enjoy reading the article, at the present time there is quite a few gun on the market that can be concealed in pants pocket, with little nor no problem. We also have holsters that look like a cell phone case. so what is the big deal, if you feel safe carrying this type of firearm for protection good. personally I have reservations about a 380 being a good gun for self defense, I realize they are easy to carry and light. two rounds of 380 if you miss at close range what is next, older people cannot run. Most of the 380’s semi auto have at least 6 rounds, so that gun would become a last chance gun or belly gun as they say it. My opinion is let the customer decide.

  • Charlie B April 8, 2016, 7:28 am

Every time someone in power, so to speak, opens their mouth about guns, the gun shops get crowded. Seriously .. Where I live you can go to the gun shop in the middle of the day and have to wait to talk to a sales person. So.. I guess Schumer is actually supporting the gun industry along with Hillary, Bloomberg etc etc.
And I will be among the first to get an Ideal Conceal.

    • Edi April 8, 2016, 8:08 am

Holy crap, how do people vote for these anti-rights jerks.

    • igotguns April 8, 2016, 8:34 am

too true. I went to my local range / store one day while on lunch, forget it… there had to be 15 guys in there being waited on.
Every time some politician says something, we all run out and buy, buy, buy… Im beginning to wonder if it isn’t just all the gun and ammo MFG’s secretly releasing fake stories about new and scary guns soon to come out so the anti crowd starts to panic, setting off another gun sales spike!

  • Andrew K Ling April 8, 2016, 7:20 am

The iPhone concept is flawed in two ways.
It appears to be intended to be a plain-site concealment weapon which makes it an open carry weapon.
The other is that the grip is too thin and will not give proper hold during firing, especially for the
shooters with less than a perfect grip on the gun.
The concept is yet another attempt at making a fast buck in the expense of American Public.
This is a stupid idea that we should avoid. Even with the flash light and the laser sight built in
one must still hold the weapon steady and pull the trigger. iPhone can not do that.

    • Abby Normal April 8, 2016, 9:22 am

I agree with you 100% but would also like to add that I have a .380, 13 shot (12+1) Beretta and it kicks like a mule for it’s size. It’s also not nearly as accurate as a longer barreled gun but it does work. This 2-shot wonder will need to be pretty thick to even accommodate a .380 cartridge since it is very close to a 9mm in physical size. I wouldn’t waste the money on a novelty that could get me hurt or in trouble.

      • buh April 8, 2016, 10:25 am

why not? you wasted your money on a novelty gun already with that beretta. if that small gun “kicks like a mule” and isn’t accurate…. why buy it? why carry it? why shoot it? sounds like a poor choice to me. and really…. a 380 kicks like a mule? My Officers 1911 .45 doesn’t even “kick like a mule”,
and can cover 7 shots with a quarter, sounds like you need to shop for a new gun. It is more important to have a good gun you can shoot accurately than have a small easy to hide gun that’s hard for you to shoot and you cannot shoot accurately.
I’ll admit its a little harder to conceal a 1911 as my ccw, but if and when needed, I have a reliable, accurate weapon with plenty of stopping power. not saying you need a 1911, but you obviously don’t have the “right” gun for you. do a little homework, shoot some guns, and then buy a gun you can shoot. why carry if you can’t shoot your target?

    • Vanns40 April 8, 2016, 9:28 am

And that, my friend, is your opinion and you are free to express it. However, if others feel differently and want it that’s just fine with me. It’s a gun and while there are many I may not choose to carry I like ’em all.

  • bison1913 April 8, 2016, 6:56 am

Black, Jewish, Muslim, Hispanic, Caucasian, innocent or guilty… I can see it now. Your Honor I shot the perpetrator because he had what looked like a gun… but it states here all he had was his I-phone… exactly your honor. This is the means for any police officer to get off scot-free no matter what the circumstances were or are. I-phone looked like gun… case dismiss, you are free to go officer. Just saying!!

    • Chris April 8, 2016, 8:26 am

      As if they dont already.

    • Chris April 8, 2016, 8:35 am

This gun does a great job of eliminating “printing” which can be a big crime in some non free states. I definitely see its merits, im not a fan of the 380. I have seen .380 struggle to make it through 3/4 osb plywood at handgun distances. Still it falls into the (something is better than nothing) category.

      • Jay Simkin April 8, 2016, 9:30 am

Humans are not made of plywood. At the close range of most on-street confrontations (under 10 feet), a .380 bullet anywhere in at attacker’s head will stop the attack, unless – perhaps – the attacker is “high”, in which case even a .45 ACP bullet may not suffice. You’re right: anything is better than nothing!!!

  • Tom Hart April 8, 2016, 6:39 am

If the libs want to ban it I want to own it!
I guess they can’t find any real problems to work on in NYS or Washington.

    • Greg April 9, 2016, 7:57 pm

Oh, they have plenty of problems in NYS to work on, but the operative word here is “WORK”!

  • Eddie Eddie April 8, 2016, 6:34 am

a two-shot derringer chambered for .380 ACP,,, wow, should make the Glock 19 obsolete

  • Mr Robert Anton Novak April 8, 2016, 6:29 am

About as dumb a concept in gun design I’ve seen yet. Useless, and dangerous.

    • Vanns40 April 8, 2016, 9:32 am

“Dangerous”? Hmm, to who? A bad guy? Maybe. Anybody else? Not if you treat it like any other gun. You’re falling into the anti-gunners trap of saying there’s a “good gun” and a “bad gun”. Might want to re-think that position.

  • ed walter April 8, 2016, 5:56 am

if they want to do something smart what happened to the red or orange barrel tips for toy guns and BB guns?

  • roger April 8, 2016, 5:55 am

Now that Schumer is talking bad I want to buy one to go with my Braverman pen gun and WSP Downsizer…

  • Phacker Newmonia April 8, 2016, 5:52 am

Schumer needs to be CHUCKED with the rest if the liberal BS.

  • Chris L. April 8, 2016, 5:44 am

I have mixed feelings about this idea. On the one hand, it meets the “have a gun” criteria (although 2 shots of .380 give me pause). On the other hand, why disguise a gun as a phone, something you are likely to be robbed for? If you are being held up and threatened, you are going to be forced to give up your gun (phone) or be forced to fight it out? Or throw it away as an attempt at diversion and run away but you still have to explain to police why you gave a gun to a criminal?
As for worrying about being shot by police for waving your phone around… If you point your phone at an officer in a threatening manner, you will probably get shot even before anyone thought up this gun to look like a phone. From 15 yards, in low light, ANY object in you hand and pointed at someone would be conceived as a weapon.

  • taxx73 April 5, 2016, 9:54 pm

I can hear the libtards saying “he blew his head off when he answered his gun instead of his phone.” I don’t know if I like this idea or not but I do agree that it doesn’t belong on the nfa. LEAVE OUR RIGHTS ALONE!!!!!

  • Jboyette1984 April 5, 2016, 7:48 pm

What? This is an awful idea. There are dozens of amazing guns for concealed carry on the market right now. I can see the headlines now “cop shoots man with phone after he mistakes it for new smart phone gun”. I have never in my life supported anyone in an attempt to gut the 2nd amendment. You’d have to pry my guns out of my cold dead hands, but this is just a bad idea plain and simple.

    • Matt Beelman April 8, 2016, 4:41 am

..1984: That’s a good point- but when comes to guns I still think ANY diversion on our part to cater to trigger happy/jumpy/poorly trained/over aggressive/paranoid police (if you will, because I believe most police are not-but we do have more undertrained or under qualified police as years go on & baby boomers retire, new recruits come in tj replace them) is another way or method ‘the left’ want to use to take more and more freedoms.. I say it’s a great idea. They have gun/canes too and we shouldn’t even think or support any type of firearm restrictions from a non-felon American citizen’s hands.

      • Gingerbaker April 8, 2016, 9:25 am

So the way to make gun control advocates think rabid gun owners are not raving lunatics who are out of control is to act like a raving lunatic who opposes even bad ideas. Brilliant.

This piece of crap derringer gives cops the excuse to shoot anybody they see with a phone. And you don’t see a REAL problem with that?

    • L. Barnes April 8, 2016, 6:20 am

I think that concealed carry or not a gun should be recognizable as a gun.

    • MB April 8, 2016, 6:46 am

Bad ideas should not be outlawed, but let the market decide if it’s a good idea on not. The goobermint needs to stay out of the business of telling businesses what they can or can not invent. The FBI for example trying to force a company(Apple ) to invent something to crack into their iPhone. If you think it’s a bad idea as I do, don’t buy it. Not many people bought “Stinger” pens so they are gone from market, the same with this.

      • Butch Nowak April 8, 2016, 8:05 am

        Very true………….

      • parnote April 8, 2016, 8:25 am

I have a better idea … let’s ban bad politicians!

      • Gingerbaker April 8, 2016, 9:34 am

“Letting the market decide” – in this case – means waiting until a bunch of people get shot for using their phones. How about WE decide that a piece of crap gun that is a piece of crap idea should not be marketed. Let them redesign it.

Your own argument about the market implies that nobody will buy this gun anyway. So…. who cares if it never comes to market?

        • Greg April 9, 2016, 8:05 pm

“WE” do get to decide if something, gun or anything else, is a piece of crap. We just don’t buy it and if enough folks don’t buy it, it ceases to exist. ‘Nuff said?
