As expected, Tim McGraw received quite a bit of feedback from gun owners and country music fans after announcing he’d headline a summer concert to benefit and raise money for the Sandy Hook Promise, an organization dedicated to, among other goals, pushing for tougher restrictions on the Second Amendment.

Following the backlash, McGraw released a statement to The Washington Post in an attempt to clarify his position and placate concerned fans.

“Let me be clear regarding the concert for Sandy Hook given much of the erroneous reporting thus far. As a gun owner, I support gun ownership,” he said. “I also believe that with gun ownership comes the responsibility of education and safety – most certainly when it relates to what we value most, our children. I can’t imagine anyone who disagrees with that.”

“Through a personal connection, I saw first-hand how the Sandy Hook tragedy affected families and I felt their pain,” McGraw continued. “The concert is meant to do something good for a community that is recovering.”

Not sure that really clarifies his position. Without addressing the specific policies that the Sandy Hook Promise is pushing for, one cannot be sure which side of the divide McGraw falls on. What does he mean by “education and safety”? Does he support bans on commonly owned and widely popular black rifles? Does he want a universal registration scheme?

Until he explicates his position, one must assume that he errs on the side of the anti-gun agenda of the Sandy Hook Promise.

Well, gun owners and 2nd. amendment supporters, better think twice before buying another CD or a ticket to that concert. Tim was, (WAS) one of my favorite singers. You can be with, or against second amendment supporters, hope everyone takes note, don’t support those who work against and oppose our constitution.

Thank GOD that Tim McGraw has the brains and courage to speak out for more regulations on needless firearms!

    • Harry April 7, 2018, 6:43 pm

A firearm is just a tool and doesn’t kill or harm anyone on it’s own. The idiots behind them is responsible for the harm that’s sometime caused with them, not by them. I hunted with my own gun, before I was old enough to go to school, my gun was my tool to help put food on our table back then. Want to ban something ? ban gangs or maybe ban mental health. Ban cars ? they kill more people than guns. I own more than a dozen classic cars, they haven’t killed anyone. Educate yourself before trying to regulate things you know nothing about.

I hope that he said where the money goes that they get! It should go for helping gun info !! It should NOT go to bad mouth guns !!

    Hay McGraw, Tug this

  • Mike Miller November 24, 2017, 4:28 am

How will you stop a black gun criminal with no training from killing your family. Try without the same black gun with training. Should we make it a law to blow the horn before running over people on purpose or jail time will be twice as bad.

Isn’t that the liberal mantra…”No guns for you, only for me and my bodyguards” sad, but alot of other, reasonable folk still play good music

Oh well Tim joins Bon jovi playlist getting shorter Bon jovi not that surprised but Tim talk bout going down low country stars should think before they throw their fans under the bus they’re supposed to be the voice for those who don’t have one talk bout a knife in the back

  • Paul April 21, 2015, 4:11 pm

Tim sounds like a Senator from the state of Delaware. “I support the Second amendment but.. My father was a gun maker way back in Virginia, but…” If he really wants to help, he can support a gun safety program in the schools.

Lets. not forget the Sandy Hook Tragedy was a mental issue but guns took the blame again. Sry Tim do something for mental awareness we have done nothing about it. So Tim remember we need to ban jet airliners also 150 dead in a split second. That is better than any rifle i own.

I hope he remembers what happened to “The Dixie Chicks” when they criticized the United Stated while on tour in Britain. They went downhill from there and are now non-existant.
The same could happen to McGraw because he doesn’t realize how passionately his fan-base believes in the 2nd Amendment…..

Go put on Faiths dress and stay in the house.while my friends and I use your cds for target practice. Maybe you could be a spokesperson for cover girl.

Well, I really was not expecting this from Tim Mcgraw, but I guess he has made his decision. His name will fall right in behind liam neison , jim carrey, piers morgan , etc.. They made their decision, we can make ours by NOT supporting these people. DO NOT buy or watch their movies/shows, or listen to their music or go to their concerts. Tell others about them and why you choose not to support them with your hard earned money. I say it is a matter of principle, I refuse to support anyone who does not support our rights as Americans.

Well, I guess when I go to the concert in Eugene, OR. in July I will have to make sure I wear as much 2A and NRA clothing as possible. 🙂 Hell, I’d just say screw him but my wife got me the tickets for Christmas on a very slim budget so I will go and enjoy the concert while representing my NRA at the same time. I do wish he had not been so vague with his statement and was more clear as to what the responsibility and education and safety regarding our kids really means to him? I got life memberships to the NRA for both of my sons when they turned 18 and that is education and safety.

  • John April 18, 2015, 10:04 pm

Very sad. I’m taking Tim McGraw off my play list. Pushing his liberal agenda.

  • 2ADontTreadonMe April 17, 2015, 6:42 pm

Tim McGraw is an idiot! He tried to sidestepped us. That is even worse thing to do. Suck it up. You screwed that one up and I hope millions of fans are gonna dump on your sorry arse!

  • Kevin April 17, 2015, 5:37 pm

Nice try Timmy but that dog don’t hunt. You can’t change the spots on a leopard anymore than you can change a liberals view on guns. Be a man and live with your choices!

  • Steve April 17, 2015, 3:05 pm

“I also believe that with gun ownership comes the responsibility of education and safety…”

If so, then he should be headlining at the NRA or NSSF convention, since they, you know, actually provide education, and safety classes, free trigger locks, etc.

Sandy Hook Promise provides NONE of those things, and and is only interested in infringing on the rights of law-abiding people who never have, and never will be a threat to anyone (except in self-defense).

  • TNJR April 17, 2015, 9:37 am

Obviously he stands with libera, liberty-restriction minded people or he would have set up a benefit concert to help that community while offering safety courses at a local range etc. or something of actual benifit to them, not just raise funds for the antigun organization backing the event. . Can’t have it both ways Tim…. Your either for gun ownership, or your for restrictions of rights. Make up your mind and live with the consequences. .. TNJR

  • MonkMan April 17, 2015, 6:29 am

Just another stupid liberal gun-grabber apparently. He must not live in a heavily-restricted left-leaning state or perhaps he would know better. No good will ever come of feeding the anti-2A socialists.

  • Slim April 16, 2015, 6:42 pm

“Until he explicates his position, one must assume that he errs on the side of the anti-gun agenda of the Sandy Hook Promise.” I agree.
