Michael Moore: ‘Snipers are Cowards, not Heroes’

Send to Kindle

Left-leaning documentary director Michael Moore took a shot, apparently, at Navy SEAL Chris Kyle and the movie “American Sniper” via Twitter on Sunday.

The controversial filmmaker said his uncle was “killed by a sniper in WW2,” then went on to say, “We were taught snipers were cowards. Will shoot u in the back. Snipers aren’t heroes…”

Moore later denied that his tweet was in reference to “American Sniper” or “Chris Kyle.”

What do you think about Moore’s tweet?

I was shoot at every time my gun boat went on patrol mostly from 12 year olds in trees they weren’t cowards they had to shoot at us the KAMER ROUGE would kill there family if they didn’t .

  • Gary June 10, 2016, 10:56 am

Please do not shoot him, if anything use a dull butter knife. but that is just my opinion!!!!!

  • Jack December 17, 2015, 7:04 pm

Yes We’re all intitled to our opinions. But whether they build up or tear down seems to be the deciding factor on whether they’re worth listening to or not. This gentleman’s opinion on snipers is based on one of his relatives being killed by one it seems. If you want to measure bravery by giving the enemy an equal opportunity to kill you as you have to kill him then you should be calling everyone after our war with the British a coward. Does our armies stand and face the enemy and trade shots with them or do they fire from as much cover as they can find? No army in their right mind stands like gentleman and trades shots at each other. One of the main reasons we are a free nation today is because of snipers. In the American revolution it was considered crass and cowardly to shoot the officers of the British army because they felt it would be a horrible thing to have leader less armies having at one another. So with the invention of rifling came much more accurate shooting and our snipers were picking off their officers. That lead to some armies of men not knowing what to do which lead to more surrendering, less men being killed, which lead to us whoopin their butt. I’m in no means saying that’s how the war ended. I’m saying when we learned and used gorilla style fighting. The English or British what ever you call them, thought it was very cowardly but it was whoopin their butt’s because they didn’t know what to do about it. And as long as we stood there trading volley’s of rounds with them we were getting stomped. So finding cover and shooting from behind it was cowardly by British standards but won us the war. And snipers popping their officers in the gourd was the most cowardly thing you could do as far as the British were concerned. But it helped us win the war. It shortened the war and it saved lives on both sides. I’m curious to see if this gentleman could lie still for three days with ants biting him, and having to urinate and defecate on himself and having enemy soldiers standing and walking by so close they could step on him while possible having nothing to eat and keeping himself from completely freaking out while keeping awake the whole time looking for his intended target. Then taking your shot and having to creep out of enemies reach and stay calm while you wait for your extraction. No that doesn’t happen very often, but it does happen, and as far as I’m concerned, it takes a man that’s braver then almost every person on this planet combined to pull off something like that. And I dont think this gentleman would even think about it let alone do it. I read that during the Vietnam War a sniper would kill a man every 1.75 bullets and the average soldier used 50,000 bullets per kill. In no way am I saying that being in the middle of all that carnage doesn’t take tremendous bravery. But I know myself and if I had to I could sling bullets with the best of them, and joined to do just that. But by the time I was old enough they were pulling out and no one else was being sent over to fight. I met and knew hundreds of Nam vets, and as far as I’m concerned they all were as brave as they come. But to say a sniper is cowardly is naive and extremely ignorant or just plain stupid. I truly wanted to be a sniper but I can honestly say I don’t feel I would have been brave enough. I’ve had to and done things in my lifetime that have gotten me called brave, crazy and hero. My service job was a welder, and our specially trained welder failed to do a weld job in a missile containment facility properly, twice. So they asked for a volunteer to complete this job properly. I told them I had volunteered before but had been turned down. So I got the job but was informed that because of a time restraint we wouldn’t be removing the missiles like they had the first two times. I was told that some of these missiles had some age on them and there was a chance the could be leaking which meant that possibly one stray spark could cause a big BOOM. I knew being in with those missiles if it did go boom I was gone. So I asked what all was in there. I was told that I now had been given very high security clearance to preform this job so they could tell me that there were a few small nukes along with the other ordinance. So there I was welding 8 feet away from a city destroying size nuke. So yes, I guess I could say I am kind of brave. I like to think I am, but I’m not sure I could call myself brave enough to be a sniper, and truthfully neither could 96% of the world. But I’m thankful for that brave 4% that can pull it off.

Well Mike Moore consistently proves by his actions and words that he is here to just get as much attention as possible w/out doing the work, effort of whatever he talks about. Used to be termed as just a Loudmouth but now somebody pays attention to him. If we didn’t give him any attention likely he’d just stop.

  • OK JOE January 29, 2015, 10:39 pm

I don’t see much difference between a sniper killing at a distance and me calling in Artillery or Tactical Air. All 3 are remote killing; clean and sanitary for the sniper or me on the radio. Still all 3 are engaged in remote killing. No one condemns Artillery or Tactical Air for remote killing.
I fought in Viet Nam, 2 tours, so Michel Moore will be able to think what he wants to think and say what he wants to say, and so you people will be able to think and say what you want too. I think you “Remington Raiders” should be happy that Mike Moore has the right to think and say what he was to. A lot of these post seem to want to deny Mr. Moore his inalienable rights as an america. It kind of makes me angry to read some of these posts. OH yes!-isn’t OOH RAH what the Russian Communist yelled as they attack us Europeans on the Eastern Front? I think it is. It would figure Marines would yell/say the same thing-considering most Marines seem to be suffering from a case of arrested development (mentally)-OOH RAH-Simper fi-jarheads.

    • Army127 March 14, 2015, 3:13 am

You again Joe? You sure you even served in the military? You seem to like to bash the Marines an awful lot? Strange I think. Since the Army and Marines worked together quite a bit in Veitnam. So I may have to take back the few good things I said about you above in your other post. Oh and try to spell it right if you are going to use it. It’s Semper Fi not simper Fi DUH! Oh and I was in the Army see my post above. Later bonehead.

  • JAMES MOORE January 28, 2015, 6:04 pm

FIRST THING NOT RELATED TO MICHAEL BUT AFTER HIS REMARKS THINKING ABOUT A NEW LAST NAME FOR ME LIKE KYLE OR SMITH OR ANYTHING BUT MOORE SAW THE MOVE TODAY SOMETIMES I COULD HARDLY BREATHE IT MAKES YOU THINK WHAT THEY GO THROUGH IN WAR AND IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES I”VE SEEN IN A LONG TIME AT THE END IT WAS LIKE EVERONE JUST SAT THEIR FOR A FEW MINUTES BEFORE LEAVING.

  • Dalton January 27, 2015, 9:38 am

Based on your reasoning Mr. Moore, You would make an amazing sniper

  • G. Steven Kaminski January 26, 2015, 10:57 pm

Moore’s late uncle would probably say to the sniper, “Damn man! Good shot! I hate your ass!”

We soldiers all know what snipers do. It’s why when we get deployed we try to keep our dumb heads down. It’s why we don’t light 3 smokes on a match. It’s why our rank is subdued and not shiny.

We hate snipers but we want the best sniper on our team, in our squad, in our foxhole.

We want Mike Moore to stay at the “all you can eat buffet” and keep the fuck out of our business AND to keeps is big pussy mouth shut as he offends real patriots!

How FUNNY! This comes from a man (Moore) that if challenged to a fist fight, he would send his lawyer! And to think he was the fastest sperm in the batch. I think he ate too many paint chips as a kid.

  • Joseph Hammond January 26, 2015, 9:13 pm

I saw American Sniper and found it as a movie that describes the tension and ability to resist panic that this SEAL demonstrated. Watching it provides a greater understanding of PTSD. The film is to be admired for telling this story. But something I walked out with was the feeling of how much we have ruined Iraq on lies from Dick Cheney and his crew. And how much the soldiers, marines, sailors and others have been put into harms way on falsehoods. There is a push in Congress right now to declassify the 28 pages of the 9/11 report that have been said to implicate the Saudi Royal Family in 9/11 (remember that the vast majority of the 9/11 criminals were from Saudi Arabia and when there was a no-fly directive imposed on the citizens of the US, “W” had planes flying across the US picking up Saudi citizens and removing them to Saudi Arabia without being interrogated). If it is true then what do we do with “W”, Cheney, Wolfowicz, Rummy and Condi? They destroyed Iraq to protect Saudi Arabia? Isn’t that a crime? And even worse are the casualties. These were people who lost it all and for what? A set of lies? Profit for the military-industrial complex?……It seems to me there would be no military deaths and maimings in Iraq if we had let Saddam continue his reign. The Iraqis would not have ISIS to fight nor would they be living in destitute and rubble. We would also have saved over a trillion dollars lost to a lie…..There was no reason for Kyle and the others to go to Iraq. No WMD’s. No Al Qaeda connection. No nuclear program being restarted. No threat to bordering nation-states. No Iraqis involved in 9/11. Just Saudis. Lots of Saudis. And Cheney gave them a “get out of jail free” card that they used…….How can we do nothing to these criminals if the 28 pages prove the Saudi Royal family was deeply involved? Because they are all 1%’ers……………

Michael Moore is a poorly dressed, fat slob who gives Liberalism a bad name. As a craven coward who hides behind his computer, he wouldn’t know the first thing about courage. He just can’t stand it that American Sniper will set attendance records while all of his movies were monumental failures.

    • Dave May 20, 2017, 9:54 am

Amen to that! Moore is a pathetic, fat slob that never served his country in any way, military, law enforcement,or otherwise. He has lived his whole lazy worthless life off the cream and fat of this nation while others took responsibility and took care of business.Give me ten minutes alone with him,and you will REALLY hear him whine and probably piss his pants also.

  • NealS January 26, 2015, 2:16 pm

What branch of the service did he serve in? What has he done to promote or support or serve this country? What country does he support and would he rather be in? Why doesn’t he move there?

  • Tristan Yang January 26, 2015, 1:06 pm

Meanwhile in enemy territories around the world, so called “cowards” are spilling their blood defending and protecting a country full of fat ass pussies like him.

    • Joel F May 19, 2017, 7:47 am

      moore is a wasted human.

  • max hoyle January 26, 2015, 12:15 pm

Michael Moore is just a little whore and will say anything to get his name and face on tv!

  • George W January 26, 2015, 10:57 am

Michael Moore is the classic idiot. I can think of nothing that would chill the blood of a coward more than being alone out in a hostile territory facing an enemy that has a price on your scalp. Just you, your rifle and a spotter—if you are lucky that mission. Maybe you can call for support and maybe you can’t.

The other fallacy in his statements is that “they will shoot you in the back.” They will shoot you anywhere that will take that “you” out of the game–back, head, shoulder, nuts–you are an enemy and you will kill his guys if allowed to continue. The enemy sees you the same way. Sorry Michael, war is hell!

  • Jimbob January 26, 2015, 10:43 am

Since when does what America Hater Michael Moore says amount to more than a warm steaming pile of dog poop? Come to think of it…Michael Moore IS a warm steaming pile of dog poop!

    • George January 26, 2015, 10:58 am

That says it well–most of what comes out of his mouth is a steaming pile of dog sh*t.

  • John Schiestl January 26, 2015, 9:46 am

MM is the true coward, how would you like to have him watching your back? He should stick to stuffing his face with ding dongs, which is obviously what he normally does!

  • Ben January 26, 2015, 9:29 am

We’re talking about a guy who would happily have us line our troops up in rank and file (with muskets, cause battle rifles are scary) and gladly see them slaughtered. That’s the sort of news clip this guy would cheer on. No matter what it has done or will do, this country is what Moore considers to be the enemy. If he can’t bitch about it, he can’t make his movies.

  • VIETNAM VET January 26, 2015, 9:19 am

As a combat veteran, am I a coward because I killed an enemy running away from me so I had to shoot him in the back? I don’t think so. My job, like that of all troops in combat, is to kill the enemy any way possible so there is no cowardly acts in my view if that is what you are doling. You are doing your job. I for one, would always want a sniper in my area of combat. They give the enemy something to think about, and create a psychological fear in them. The more they have to think about the less likely they will be successful in killing me or my fellow soldiers. Moore is a jerk and the more we respond to him the more successful he is in the public eye. When he has combat experiences to share then I want to hear what he has to say. Until then I usually don’t listen to anything he says. Why is it when someone hits it lucky and makes a lot of money, they become an expert on EVERYTHING.

  • Michael Natali January 26, 2015, 9:05 am

Like Mr. Moore, I also had an Uncle killed by a sniper in WW2. (On Iwo Jima). If you logistically look at that battle or any battle that an army is facing an overwhelming superior enemy, using snipers is the only way to survive and to slow down their advance. Obviously Michael was sleeping during history class otherwise he would realize that American snipers have been a noble tradition all the way back to the Revolution war. God bless them for saving thousands of American soldiers lives!

  • Doc Palmer January 26, 2015, 9:02 am

I noticed Moore didn’t make his remark face to face with a veteran sniper. I think we know who the coward is.

  • Jim January 26, 2015, 8:44 am

Michael Moore wouldn’t make a pimple on any veterans butt. Michael Moore has the freedom of speech granted by the Constitution, the only slant to this is, he has a nationwide platform to make his statements from, not like a one on one conversation. One may ask why people also support the Constitution when it agrees with their opinions and adamantly oppose the rights of the Constitution in regards to other topics.

Michael Moore made this statement because he knew it would hit the national news with his name prominently displayed. As far as the statement above referring to a sniper being safe and taking long distance shots; obvious the person stating his opinion does not know anything about the safety of a sniper. The sniper is a price target and the opposition has snipers/combatants looking for the opposing sniper.

  • Lee Steele January 26, 2015, 8:10 am

No sane thinking person cares what Fat Mikey thinks. He is long past his fifteen minutes of fame. He is irrelevant.
    To paraphrase:
“Those who can (the snipers) DO,
    Those who can’t badmouth them.”
Fat Mikey is the latter. Treat him like the troll he is. Ignore him and he will scuttle back under his broken down bridge.

    • Jimbob January 26, 2015, 2:33 pm

Unfortunately, he has his “army” of mindless libs who see his movies and hang on his every word. In an otherwise lovely area of our state (Traverse City, MI) he is fawned over and revered as an intellectual icon.

  • Mike January 26, 2015, 7:12 am

There is nothing more repugnant than a rich communist.

  • Greg Gliffe January 26, 2015, 2:44 am

Michael Moore is a mindless PIG.

  • biggens January 25, 2015, 3:55 pm

how is it moore hasnt been in service but he can talk stuff about everybody elsetry 2 do what we have done. then you can talk ass wipe. go join the service lets see what you can do…

  • ejharb January 23, 2015, 3:10 pm

I call him Micheal more because everytime I see him he is more fat more ugly and more stupid

  • David Rast January 22, 2015, 9:09 pm

If you have not been in the military stop talking trash. Sounds like the real hero was shot . You should be embarrassed for even making a comment.

  • Richard January 22, 2015, 4:38 pm

I say GOD BLESS all those who gave me the right to live how I want to! And make this post posable
…ALL GAVE SOME SOME GAVE ALL…
Army Navy Air Force Marine all are HEROES!!!!!

  • Jeff Jennings January 22, 2015, 2:19 pm

I am very sorry that MM’s uncle was killed in WW2. I would have preferred his father instead

    ;-))))

  • John B January 22, 2015, 8:56 am

Michael Moore is the best reason for a “Universal Draft” I can think of. First position should be the lead man on patrol. At least there he will learn to keep his mouth shut or get it shot off.

  • jm January 22, 2015, 8:14 am

I see this being all about publicity. Fortunately bad press has a way of pushing people out. Too bad he didn’t think about the words before he typed them. On another note, I want to thank each and every person who has fought, died and served for our country. Thank you HEROS!

  • J. Leslie, Sr. January 22, 2015, 8:06 am

There is something everyone needs to understand! It takes ALL phase’s of the Military, every man and woman regardless of their assignments, to win an engagement, any combat, AND the WAR! No one person can do it alone. It takes teamwork from the entire group. So each man, each woman, is essential to the mission!
It’s hard not to respond to nit-wit cowards like MM and other Liberals who may not have served in the military, or actually seen combat, but when you do, you help spread the word for them. Silence about an individual is best. Speak up when they become a rag tag crowd.

  • Russ January 22, 2015, 3:42 am

    Why put this cap up?
    To hear us rage?
    OK, here you go.
Michael Moore gives Fat Homos a bad name.

  • JIM Moss January 22, 2015, 12:36 am

I don’t give a fu*k what job you had in the military from flyboy, to cook, to radio repairman you played a vital role in the freedom of our country. Some people have a gift in the kitchen and some have ice water running through their veins and a heart rate of 40bpm. Whatever you did I thank you. I just wish that it was MM that took the injured ptsd guy to the range instead of Kyle.

    • Jose January 25, 2015, 7:29 am

      Amen, Brother Jim. Well said!

    • Jose January 25, 2015, 7:32 am

      Amen Brother Jim. Well said!

  • jeff January 21, 2015, 11:34 pm

Michael Moore is a true loser! A lot of Guts (i.e. Fat ass) and no glory. You have never done a single thing with your worthless life. You uneducated, worthless POS.

  • Starman January 21, 2015, 11:19 pm

I thought Michael Moore died after his frontal lobotomy… guess it was a dream. Oh, well..

  • RetNavet January 21, 2015, 10:54 pm

Who is Michael Moore?….never heard of him. Probably a psuedo-name for some obese fool who never even had an uncle.

  • Sam January 21, 2015, 10:42 pm

So Michael Moore endorses the use of Snipers because they are effective.

  • Dan January 21, 2015, 9:56 pm

Mr. Moore is entitled to his own opinions. I think he’s an idiot who doesn’t understand the freedom that he so freely pisses on. Why in the world anyone listens to this idiot is beyond me? America is now being run by socialists who all think they can hug trees and say stupid things… Hell even Jane Fonda has come around..

  • Bigmag47 January 21, 2015, 8:50 pm

Michael Moore is simply this…. A far left moronic Bozo, that without any doubt what so ever got the snot beat out of him EVERYDAY in school. He uses the same imagination he had as a kid, dreaming someday he`d be some kind of hero, or famous baseball player, or a SNIPER. He just never had the BALLS to do any of the above. That would require fortitude, something he only DREAMS about. So basically….he tells stories. What a sad man he must truly be.
I just call him USELESS. Useless is as useless does. lol

  • Old Man January 21, 2015, 8:29 pm

The closest MM ever got to combat was fighting over a Cornbeef sandwich in a NY deli with a homeless man. He needs to put his brain in gear before opening his mouth on matters he has no knowledge.

  • Lars January 21, 2015, 8:05 pm

It truly saddens me to see anyone _ever_ repeat something the cowardly MM says. I saw what he did to Charlton Heston in his anti-gun movie (name withheld for sanity.) May MM find instant karma for all the bad things he’s done. Ptui! Now please stop repeating the crap he spews, alright?

  • Guy smalley January 21, 2015, 7:55 pm

The argument about snipers vs foot soldiers cowards etc is so stupid in that as in any team every member has a job which needs to be done, if the mechanic makes a mistake a mission can fail is that job any less important than the pilot? As far as shooting in the back its war and its the person who lives another day who is the winner.

  • Coyote January 21, 2015, 7:50 pm

Why would anyone ask moore’s opinion on any subject..he is america’s worst negative idiot. He should be deported to flint, michigan where he helped destroy a once great state…

  • Bill P January 21, 2015, 7:31 pm

How long did you spend in the service that your able to make comments about a sniper. Just imagine if the tables were turned and one saved your life would you be tout your big fat ass mouth about him?

  • djw663 January 21, 2015, 7:29 pm

Hey Mike Moore, instead of benefiting from all the freedoms that these SNIPERS and teams of military personnel have afforded you by doing their job. You praise them for risking their life everyday so that you could live your liberal life with your liberal voice and the money you have made from those very things you now call cowardly. You would change your tune if you were the SNIPER conducting an operation, getting yourself past other SNIPERS, other hostiles and into position to protect your team. Even if you were in shape, knowledgeable and an excellent shot at 1000 to 1500 meters plus, you are still in enemy territory and you need to be prepared for anything. You want to talk cowardly, how about Obama ordering a drone strike on unsuspecting Americans having a picnic.

  • jjDoodah January 21, 2015, 7:28 pm

If he was shot in the back….then there’s a Good chance he was deserting……that’s the norm…..

  • John Page January 21, 2015, 7:16 pm

No one who serves their country in the capacity they are asked to do so is a coward. To say a sniper is a coward is like saying it’s cowardly to use air support to take out an enemies position that has troops pinned down. It’s all war, and it’s all honorable. I won’t say a lot about my service except this: the biggest heroes to us were the men who made sure we got our mail.

  • Pete January 21, 2015, 7:11 pm

Moore is a dick.. I’d like to send him to the battle field

    • Sam January 30, 2015, 9:05 pm

please don’t call him a dick..that’s the best part of a man he isn’t.

  • Frank January 21, 2015, 6:58 pm

I would pay to see Moore last 10 minutes of seal training. The closest he has come to combat is fighting for the last doughnut!

  • JMC235 January 21, 2015, 6:48 pm

For those who needed a reminder as to why you should hate liberals….

  • Johnny January 21, 2015, 6:22 pm

Some may this comment and as someone who believes everyone is entitled to their opinion and their own reality…that’s true but, it doesn’t make the opinion or their reality true. A sniper is a highly trained, living breathing (and one of the best!) tool on the battlefield. To say “a sniper”, is a coward is like saying a fighter pilot who is ordered to drop bombs on whole villages is a coward. Anyone working on a destroyer where a missle that does kill an innocent is launched is a coward. Essentially, anyone that doesn’t shoot the enemy face to face looking them in the eyes is a coward. WRONG!!! What one highly trained individual sniper and his spotter can do on the battlefield is irreplaceable.

I don’t agree with 99.9% of Moore’s thoughts ad I don’t think he really agrees with 50% of the stuff he says…I’m sure he likes the attention he gets (hell, I’m wasting 5min of my life leaving a comment I’d never usually leave…don’t go after our service members & I wouldn’t). I do feel for the loss the Moore family had to go through and maybe calling the enemy soldier who killed him a coward helped them heal but, Mr. Moore, here’s some facts: War’s ugly. Good people die. Innocent people die. Again, war isn’t pretty but, your uncle understood that and still fought. During his time fighting, it’s very likely an American sniper helped prolonged if not saved the life of your uncle and the men that stood by him and hey fortunate for that. Unfortunatley, he became an American casualty…because that’s war, and it sucks.

Mr. Moore, I’m truly sorry for the loss of your uncle. I thank him and his family for the sacrifice he made for our country. I didn’t know him but, if he was the soldier you claim he was, he’d tell you that comment is way out of line.

If you want attention, get your facts straight and don’t bash those risking their lives so you can keep the right of popping off at rhe jaw the way you have over the years and the millions you’ve made by doing so. Find a new target.

  • John January 21, 2015, 6:22 pm

MM is not a vet nor does he have any idea what it means to serve your country. He is a publicity seeker. I hope it backfires on him like it did for Jesse Ventura.

  • Johnny January 21, 2015, 6:22 pm

  • Rick Emery January 21, 2015, 6:13 pm

Mikey Moore does not speak for anyone but himself. His comment that most Americans don”t like guns. Mikey did you ask every American what they like????? NO you did not. You just run your mouth to hear yourself talk.( make noise) Just go away, how about, East Africa, they need you there.

  • Jim January 21, 2015, 5:59 pm

Mr. Moore is entitled to his opinion.
Personally, I think he is the coward. Fat bastard probably overeats to make up for his personal issues and spews his stupidity all over to general public to make up for his lack of sincerity and intelligence.
People like him are the worst enemies of this country, liberal guilt will be his undoing if life is fair…

  • Paul January 21, 2015, 5:56 pm

MM you got your reactions, are you satisfied ?!?!?!?!?!
With your thinking, anyone who fights by remote is a coward ???
Guess what, remote fighting is going to be the norm someday.
When it comes to snipers, walk in their shoes. you’ll find out it not easy, both physically and mentally.
Personally I admire them, but then again I’m a rifleman trained to kill.
    Ooh rah Simper Fi

    • Corey January 21, 2015, 6:19 pm

Me too, OOH RAH BROTHER. WARLORDS. 2nd2nd. That guy is a joke. Speaking on things he knows absolutely nothing about or he wouldn’t have said that.

  • max hoyle January 21, 2015, 5:50 pm

Lets face facts ..moore is an asshole from way back! If he had as many sticking out of him, as was stuck in, he would look like a porcupine.

  • vonrock January 21, 2015, 5:43 pm

Maybe He would prefer something more up close and personal like say a “suicide bomber”

  • Petru Sova January 21, 2015, 5:43 pm

    Historical Facts on Snipers.
In WWI they were hated by the average soldier because they brought artillery fire down on their own position resulting in needless deaths between battles.

After WWI Sniper training was so reviled that the weapons were moth balled and no further training was done.

In Viet-Nam snipers for the most part were considered pariahs because it was felt by the common soldier that it was one thing to kill people in battle that were shooting back at you but shooting people who were unaware of your presents while they were often writing letters home, eating, going to the bathroom, bathing etc. was considered cold blooded murder and not something the normal soldier even thought about doing.

When Carlos Hathcock was asked about this his response was that the more I killed the less I had to worry about them killing us. True enough but it takes a rare type of individual to do such things and not be bothered by what he is doing.

As far as Kyle is considered he was really loathsome. Most normal people who have been in combat have a human conscience and most do not talk about what they did in battle as they would rather try and forget although they cannot. Kyle on the other hand bragged and exaggerated and outright lied about what he did. He made statements that he kill Americans during Katrina. Not true. He made untrue statements about his confrontation with Jesse Ventura and was sued and lost. He proved he was a racist in an NBC news interview by stating he considered Middle East people evil and he wished he had killed more of them. Hardly anything a sane combat veteran who say or brag about. Yes in war it is necessary to kill people but normal people do not brag about such things because its abnormal to do so.

All and all I think Eastwood really picked the wrong guy to make a movie about as we cannot believe anything in the movie is based on what really happened. Its simply another glorified John Wayne type movie of “The bad guys against the good guys” and we all know what a laughable movie “The Green Berets” was. Entertaining for sure but it did not reflect the reality of combat in Viet-Nam or the Green Berets at all. The same can be said of this movie as its mostly pure aggrandizement and fantasy and the right wing fanatics will love it and believe its 110 per cent true and that Kyle was in incarnation Davey Crocket, John Wayne and Jessica Lynch (who never shot anyone). Maybe the comparison to Jessica Lynch is the more accurate.

    • Army127 March 14, 2015, 2:55 am

Well if it isn’t Petru again. The ignorant unknowing sh*t for brains who always spouts off about something just to start an argument. The movie is factual you dumba*s! Chris was already dead when they made it so the information comes from actual reports, fellow unit members, and his wife. You know what I spent 2 tours in Iraq before I was badly injured in combat during the second one, and I personally wish I killed thousands more of those terrorist cowardly pieces of sh*t! It would’ve saved more of my brothers and sisters in arms who never came home! You make me want to puke to be honest, and you always seem to be against our troops, military, or police. I wonder are you a terrorist puke? Your name certainly fits with it doesn’t ir. Do me and all of my fellow Soldiers a favor go shove your head back in the sand and keep your mouth shut if you have nothing nice to say about a man who defended our great country (well not yours, but you get it)! Go find another forum/blog to write on and beat it. I think I may have my buddy who works for homeland security check out your user name and email address just to make sure you are on the up and up got it.

  • Philip W Martin January 21, 2015, 5:27 pm

I have only one thing to say about Mr Moore. He is worthless as a human being. To call him a coward is out of place. I think Mr Moore is the Coward. He make’s up this trash on people who he has not idea of what he talking about. Mr Moore is just a Fat worthless peace of trash that should be dumped.

  • Gunny January 21, 2015, 5:11 pm

And why do any of us give a rats ass what this obese liberal is saying. Karma already owns his fat ass.

  • Hugo Stiglitz January 21, 2015, 4:55 pm

Who cares what that fat douche thinks? Anyone serving in the military, especially in active combat, is a hero for being willing to lay down their life to protect this country. Snipers possess incredible skill and that plus their willingness to serve, make them worthy of our gratitude and admiration.

  • Harold Mendelson January 21, 2015, 4:42 pm

Mr Moore doesn’t know of which he speaks. Snipers serve several functions. They are the eyes and ears of their commanders, gathering info on the enemy in their area. Sometimes they work in small teams protecting others by spotting enemy ambushes and when needed they shoot and kill enemy combatants. There is no glory in taking another’s life and snipers know that better than anyone. A sniper is many things, a coward is not one of them. Michael Moore if you don’t know what you’re talking about (which you don’t) please do one of two things. Learn and keep quiet, or don’t learn and keep quiet.

  • mick Laurence January 21, 2015, 4:27 pm

If it were not for soldiers like American Sniper and the rest of our military, you would not have the freedom to say the things you say, without repercussion.
You take a lot for granted

  • Jake January 21, 2015, 4:27 pm

    Coward? really?
Anyone who joins the military and defends his country, should garner respect from those who don’t. The fact that there are people who are not selfish and go out and defend others with their lives should give you a clue to what kind of people they really are! MM sitting in his easy chair has no respect for those who have died defending his right to say the kind of hogwash he has been spitting out. How dare you slander the soldiers of our country. You should be banned from ever setting foot in our country, you hypocrite!

  • Terry price January 21, 2015, 4:14 pm

Michael Moore is a piece of crap and does not deserve to call himself an American. All his rants cut down the American way of life and the Heros that gave it to us.

  • LAH053 January 21, 2015, 4:12 pm

Why in the world would ANYONE listen to an Attention Whore who has zero knowledge of what is a Coward. If Moore had any real knowledge of what a coward is, he’d be badmouthing himself. The only hero in his comments is Chris and his Uncle. I had a Great uncle killed in WWII and would have liked to have known him that being said I also realize this is the evil of war. Chris’s efforts as a Honorable Sniper in Afghanistan and Iraq in not shooting the wrong people speaks volumes about his honor and character. Chris knew full well that he would have to live with his nightmares when he pulled the trigger and did so to save the lives of our brothers in arms. God Bless his soul and memory and God Bless this country, Chris will have my eternal thanks for a damned difficult job well done. And piss on cowards like Mike Moore and his ilk.

  • Gene Kinnick January 21, 2015, 3:54 pm

There is one kind of sniper that I can honestly say I loathe, and it is the kind of person MM represents, who takes pot-shots at our troops and veterans with their mouths at every opportunity, even while those same troops are doing everything, possibly sacrificing everything ….to protect our nation and the freedom we all enjoy. As a combat veteran, I know the importance of the roles our snipers must play in the protection of all of our troops on the front lines in the defense of our freedom. Without them, a lot of us would have come back home in bags or aluminum caskets, and a lot of American families would be suffering and struggling in their absence. To MM I would say, ….go volunteer to wear the combat boots you’ve never had to walk in. Experience what it would be like without the Chris Kyles of our volunteer military protecting your back as you enter an enemy infested battlefield where they lay in wait for you and your fellow troops.

  • J. R. Spearman January 21, 2015, 3:54 pm

What a puss filled this boil on the ass of humanity little (just kidding) mike moore is.
His primary problem is he can not control his mouth in any way.
Every time his elbow bends his mouth opens thus his inordinately grotesque appearance and of course then there are the other times he opens his mouth like this time and inserts his foot.
Go back north & keep your opinions to yourself Eh

  • SacrificialLamb January 21, 2015, 3:52 pm

Moore and Rogan are just a few of the Loose-Jawed-Non-Hack Liberals that have no Idea what Sacrifices our Service Men and Women(&Families) make each and every day. The Soldier fights not just because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him. Just hope their latest comments hurt their revenues.

  • Mattitude January 21, 2015, 3:49 pm

I’d be willing to bet the MM’s uncle didn’t serve a day of combat. I believe that the Canadians didn’t have a draft like the Americans for WW2 and there weren’t no where as many Canadian troops as from the USA. I’m calling BS on his “story” about his uncle. I’d like to know his name & unit to see if what he said is actually true.

    • BKerr January 21, 2015, 9:08 pm

      First, MM is not Canadian.
Out of a population of 11.9M, 1.1M (9.2%) Canadians served in WW2 (almost all were volunteers)
Out of a population of 138M, 16.1 (11.6%) US soldiers served in WW2 (38% were volunteers)
There were no attacks on Canadian soil, so Canadians served first to preserve the rights and freedoms of other nations.
My grandfather was conscripted off the farm in ’44 and left his wife, 11yr old and 15yr old sons to run the farm.

      • Mattitude January 26, 2015, 10:38 am

Ah crap…I knew that. He’s from Michigan but I got stuck in the fact that he’s infatuated with Canada and how “safe their society is” got stuck in my head. I’m still not convinced that MM’s uncle served a day in combat much less shot in the back by a sniper much less served in the military at all. I believe he’s just opening his mouth for attention.

  • henry January 21, 2015, 3:34 pm

Michael Moore needs to understand that many a grave has been prematurely filled by a fool who didn’t know when to keep his mouth shut. The .44 has no respect of a man’s “rights”….

Just what in the hay was your unguilty UNCLE involved in. If he was there HE WAS KILLING GERMANS H I M S E L F , FAT FACE!!!!!!! So Quit your WHINING , YOUR UNCLE WAS A MURDER.

  • JGTinNJ January 21, 2015, 2:53 pm

An enemy sniper is a coward, an American sniper is a hero. Enemy mistreating prisoners is torture, reveals inherent evil, Americans mistreating prisoners – well it is not torture and it is for a good end. American enemy beheading innocents, just shows how evil they are. American friends beheading people daily – who cares, they are probably Arabs, thieves or witches. Fighters hiding behind trees in early American wars, just shows how cowardly they are, they did not have the honor of standing out in the open and just firing at each other as they are supposed to do. All meaningless when it comes to war. The real people to criticize are the powerful leaders who put ordinary Joes in these situations. There is a reason there are so many suicides and so many suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome. The situations we have placed our fighters in are unimaginable. Further female rights by creating thousands of war widows. Don’t bother asking the widows if that is what they want.

While you are on your time out, you will write this sentence 1000 times I JG, will not ever post this type of raving stupidity ever again. Moron…

    • OK JOE January 29, 2015, 4:41 pm

JGT You are right but you left out the genocide war that the united states government got going-called World War 2. The 8th airforce conducted a war of genocide against everything Northern European. Hundreds of Thousands of Innocent Men, Women and Children young and old were bombed to death and what the bombs didn’t get, the fire storms did, and the Japanese people understand how “wonderful” the united states government was/is when ever they think of the “wonderful” atom bombs dropped on their civilian cities, even though the Japanese were asking for an end of the war months before the drop. I could go on and on about the atrocities perpetrated on Innocent people through out history by the united states government but what would be the point? Most of the posters appear to be mindless and it would be a waste of time. Now let me mention to you Marines or ex-Marines we don’t call you guys and girls “jarheads” for nothing.
OK before you Marines and other mindless trash jump all over me in another mindless tirade I will tell you that: I joined the army in order to do my duty for my country. I loved and still love my country! No one had to drag me into the army or to Viet Nam I went because that is what I was suppose to do I knew that an accepted it and embraced it. 2 tours in Viet Nam one with the 82nd Airborne and one on a Special Forces “A” team as a team demotions/engineer specialist, I was wounded 4 times but I received 2 purple hearts, I am rated as 100% disabled by the VA. I fought for my right as well as your right to speak our minds and have what ever opinions we have, even your mindlessness is OK with me. Things you guys can do in your everyday lives and take for granted I can’t do and haven’t been able to do because I cared about my Country. I didn’t pay the ultimate price but I paid a high price for my country. Most of the “hawks” “war mongers” I have met were in reality rear area personal. In Viet Nam we combat people commonly referred to you rear area people and “Remington Raider”(Remington referring to the Remington typewriter everyone use at the time).
OK Marines now that you have read what I have had to say you can now put your heads back up your asses where you’ve had them all your lives.

      • OK JOE January 29, 2015, 5:27 pm

        Make that; (as “Remington Raiders”)

      • Army127 March 14, 2015, 2:36 am

Joe, first lets correct some of your mistakes. Number 1 we didn’t start WWII, that was your lovely friend Adolph Hitler. We didn’t enter the war until Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, DUH! Number 2 we attempted more than once to get Japan to come to the peace table and negotiate the end but they refused every time so the only way we could get them to do it was by using the “Fat Man”, and the “Little Boy”. 2 weeks after that Japan agreed to surrender and the documents were signed on the USS Missouri. So please get your facts correct and then you can spout off at the mouth like a jacka**. I do thank you for your service in Veitnam, as you guys did get the short end of the stick quite a bit back home, and for that I am sorry (even though I was a baby then). Now for my service, and I will send you my DD214’s for proof if you feel the need. I spent 15+ years in our countries fine US Army and US Army Reserves with numerous deployments to The Middle East area of operations. I joined Dec. 1994 and was medically retired Nov. 2012. My MOS was 15T20 UH-60 Helicopter Repairer for those of you who don’t know. You need this MOS to become a Crew Chief, which shortly after joining I began training as and since then was a UH-60A/L Blackhawk Crew Chief and Gunner in an Air Assault Helicopter Company. I also went to and completed Air Assault school. I was in a Helicopter accident during my 2nd deployment to Iraq (downed by enemy fire) and I will go into no further explanation of the incident because it is too painful. I was pretty badly injured, my cervical spine, lumbar spine, right shoulder and arm, right hip and right leg. So no I wasnt FOBBIT or in the rear with the gear! We did over 126 Air Assaults and over 10,000 hours of flying during that deployment all right up in it dropping off SOCOM units and Ranger units, as well as regular Army units. I can no longer do much of anything I used to do either and I would go back today if my back wasn’t destroyed. I am proud of everything I did to serve this Country and I won’t listen to crap by people like Mike Moore who make me want to puke because they have no idea what they are talking about. Or bitter old men such as yourself who instead of understanding what you did was what you had to do to survive (and I know you know that) say things like you did above. The men and women who fought and died in WWII are some of the greatest heroes we will ever know, just like the men and women who fight or have fought in all positions in all wars or conflicts past, present, and future. Honor them don’t make them feel bad about what they had to do to save their brothers and sisters in arms, defend this country, and get home safe too. Respect them for their courage, honor, and patriotism, and let us never forget the things, terrible things they had to do and see so that you may sit behind your computers and spout off a bunch of crap. This is an all volunteer force, the first time ever in major conflicts that there was not a draft, and people volunteered, and damn it they still do! Only 1% of this Country has served and less than .45% have served in combat so don’t forget where you came from JOE! and there is no reason to bash Marines, since they are the first in and last out! Even though we, the Army has to always go in Nd finish the job properly and clean up the mess! LOL! Just kidding all in good fun.

Now MIKE MOORE YOU CAN LIVK THE SWEAT OFF MY STINKY HAIRY B***S! You fat disgusting piece of garbage. The rest of you morons who bad mouthed the U.S. Military or spouted off without any facts or real knowledge CAN DO THE SAME THING! I understand freedom of speech but not freedom to trash the military and tell Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, or Airmen they ever did anything wrong. We all follow orders and we were all doing our jobs just like you people do a job we did ours, and many of my brothers and sisters did not come home or didn’t come home the same person and never will be, heck no one who has been in combat will ever be the same person it changes you forever. Thank a Vet and remember our heroes!

I’m not gay but gay people have died for their country in every war ever fought and that makes them better than those of you who prefer to talk badly of gays as a group, probably without knowing anyone of them. And shame on the Moderators who post such backwardness.

    • Tony January 22, 2015, 5:32 pm

      Rich,
You may not be “gay”, but you’re as guilty as any Sodomite for supporting the very idea that our military should espouse such aberrant behavior. Every conquering army down through history that allowed, condoned, supported, and espoused such behavior of men among their ranks FELL! The Trojans, Spartans, and Romans to name a few. There is nothing at all natural about either male, or female sodomite practices. And they are an abomination to God Himself as well! Leviticus 18:22 “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.” And are the result of an ungrateful people to a kind, loving, and Holy Creator, Romans 1:19-32 ” Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” So I guess from your forward type of comment, that God is backward. Which would make you, and those like you more progressive than your Creator. Be sure to tell Him that when you face Him in judgment! And you wonder why this country is turning into the sink it’s becoming?

  • Ross Walters January 21, 2015, 2:32 pm

Well I’m a veteran who was drafted but never served as a LRRP or a sniper. Closest I ever got to combat was at Ft. Knox when two bro’s pulled a knife on me late night in the latrine and they got away with $6.
That said I have nothing but respect for any soldier regardless of their Military Occupational Specialty. The armed services demand a pound of flesh practically every day from it’s soldiers so too bad M Moore didn’t serve for 2 years maybe he’d have a better self image if he were a hundred pounds lighter.

  • Dan January 21, 2015, 2:16 pm

    • Luke January 21, 2015, 3:35 pm

Sometimes foreigners are worth listening to. Not this time. Piers Morgan, Michael Moore, a broad assortment of foreign (i.e. green card holders) musicians & actors too stoned to think straight should be somehow forced to consider where they are and where they’d be if not for American armed forces. Their careers, bank accounts and standard of living can be traced directly back to the blood of dead American kids. It’s unavoidably tiresome having to watch a mostly useless news media pander to these ignorant jackasses.

Michael More is the worst Coward I know , as a Vietnam Vet I had many enemy snipers fire on me. They risk Machinegun, attack helicopter, fighter jet attack with all kind of ordinance. I would have have to say that my respect for them was at a high level.
Moore was never in any war that I know of, although he runs his mouth constantly on our military forces. In my opinion he’s the coward with the pen painting lies and half truths for our gullible youth to believe.

Unbelievable anyone would give this cretin any platform to disseminate his low-minded idiocy.

Moore’s comment just shows his ignorance and biases. Snipers are tools in certain combat situations. Doing what they’ve been trained and ordered to do, much of which is intended to save the lives of his/her comrades. They are in danger whenever they’re deployed and I have no doubt that many have lost their lives in action. What does a Michael Moore-type know about anything that involves personal danger?

My father was a bomber pilot who flew combat missions over Germany and his brother, an infantry Lt, was killed on 12/30/1944 by German soldiers who were part of a tank force. I regret that I never knew my uncle and I hate the damage and grief that his death caused my dad, his sister and his parents but his death was certainly not in vain, any more than my dad’s service as a pilot, nor my GG Grandfathers service, along with that of his brothers during the Civil War, nor of my Grandfathers service during the SA war, nor of my own during the Vietnam era nor that of any other numerous male relatives in my family who stood for the causes of liberty against those of marxism, fascism and nazism.

If MM is anything representative of his sires….and I have to assume he is, his comments and opinion aren’t surprising. He was more likely raised by left wing nut cases who despised anything that didn’t immediately suit and benefit them and for that reason,
I’m surprised that anyone in MM’s family had the balls to stand in combat, if what he says is even remotely true. And while is might be unfortunate that a German sniper killed his uncle, it’s more unfortunate that a sniper didn’t take out his old man.

    • Woof January 21, 2015, 2:47 pm

My uncle was killed by a British sniper. My dad and his brother searched for decades for his grave. My dad manned spotlights to shine on your dad. Let’s have peace, brother! MM has no idea what he’s talking about.

  • Nicks87 January 21, 2015, 4:52 am

I actually agree with him. Nothing wrong with stating your opinion. Isnt that what America is all about? I’m a veteran and I love guns and support the 2nd Amd. and the constitution but I think Americans need to stop this fake hero worship. Killing is not fun, war is not a video game where we keep stats and celebrate the people who get the highest score. I have more respect for the guys kicking in doors and running convoys than someone who sat in relative safty and picked people off from a distance.

Never stood a minute in formation, never worked all night to kill someone, has no idea how brutal gun fights are. Yeah, we need his opinion as much as we need Cheney’s on torture. Woulda, shoulda, coulda. But didn’t.

    • Jack January 21, 2015, 1:28 pm

Nicks, when a unit is required to kick in doors and run convoys, it is usually the job of snipers to protect them while they are doing it. I don’t attribute anything except the highest degrees of bravery and service to anyone who performs either job and if you were on the ground in an urban search, all I own says you would love to know that there was a highly trained, alert and capable sniper watching your backside.

      • DWard January 21, 2015, 4:46 pm

Exactly. Some poor misguided people think that war is lining up in rank and taking shots at the other side while they take shots at you. Some how this is ‘brave’. Wrong, this is stupid. Such lunacy belongs in movies, not real life. I would rather see 10 snipers doing their job over time than 500 ground troops pushing their way through dangerous buildings. War is not fair, it is war.

    • JimJam January 21, 2015, 1:48 pm

Wow, you could not have done anything worth while in the military. In the field it’s not just the grunts who get the job done. Ask anyone who has been in a position to have a sniper covering them.
      Go have sex with MM.

    • Richard Johnson January 21, 2015, 2:07 pm

You need to check him out…yes, we do have the right to freedom of speech, as Americans, he’s Canadian! He should be deported along with Dumbama!

      • mingpooh January 21, 2015, 8:12 pm

Not Canadian. Born in Flint Michigan, went to school in a little (and, at the time, all white) town of Davison, about 10 miles SE of Flint. I grew up in another small town south of Flint about 5 years earlier than he. Davison was one of the competing schools in our sports grouping — one of the few we usually beat. Don’t give the Canadians the dubious claim to him as a citizen — he is US born and bred. Make all us in Michigan proud with his deep philosophical insights and pithy social commentary. (Note the sarcasm in that statement, PLEASE.)

        • lawrence January 26, 2015, 9:18 am

WOW man go easy please. I wish MM was Canadian now I find out this useless piece of —- came out of Flint, Mi. SO I guess I have to except another black mark on Flint and on Michigan again and again and again. But beautiful Burton Mich it’s not their fault that the jack— moved there.

    • Vern R January 21, 2015, 4:42 pm

Nicks87…You’re a vet? Which war did you win for us kicking in doors? How many lives did you save by taking out terrorists? Anyone who can agree with Moore on this topic couldn’t have spent one day in a combat area. I’ll bet you were a yeoman or cook on a ship off shore somewhere. Don’t get me wrong–those are honorable jobs too, just not on the same level. Before you ask…Phu Cat, Vietnam 1970.

      • Doc January 21, 2015, 11:15 pm

As Americans we have the right to think and say pretty much anything we wish to. I won’t deny any one the same rights I’d want for myself.

Let’s not forget a little history behind the statement ‘my father was killed by a sniper’. Snipers were not always looked up to – or even at eye level – by most of the years of the Military BY the military. In many of our wars ‘snipers’ were not given the credit they deserved – by Regulars, or Officers in general. Let’s not re-write history.

Were Indians who waited in ambush all night waiting for that dawn patrol to come by – and fire a volley or arrows and run away ‘heroes’ or were they ‘Godless heathens” — What about the guys from Iraistan who hide all day in the burning sand let part of a patrol go by, trigger and IED, — wait, trigger a second IED – then come out AK’s on full-auto as the run away into the crowds – heroes or cowards? – Or how about that poor bastard who sits all day and all night just waiting for and APC to put an RPG into? then drop the tube and walk away with a bushel of veggies for sale?

I say they all fall into exactly the same category – and I call them ALL snipers — and give them ALL credit for a job well done. Because the job WAS well done – and they got away – even if they didn’t get away, what they did was Brave and something to be proud of doing – not everyone is that patient or that brave, or that skilled.

So before we start slinging mud and re-writing history and calling a good sniper a F*ing GD Gook – I think we need to look at each action and how they carried out their mission – ‘Tied in trees’ – was so they could sleep – and keep going with fatal legs or body wounds until a spray or DM took him down.

I was a Corpsman (NAVY) who did way too many back-to-back’s in ‘Nam to see them as anything other than what they were — VERY committed, VERY swell trained, VERY good, VERY accurate, and VERY brave for what they did – even if they did it to MY Marines – they mostly did it VERY well indeed – like I posted once before a bit ago – it’s not to kill (though it can be) often the role of a sniper is to be good enough to NOT kill you — where’s the advantage in that? It’s to WOUND you – take you and several of your buddies of of battle for a bit while you got to medical aid. I know I watched one sniper take out 4 of our guys all with wounds BELOW the belt-line, often thigh or calf – THAT Marine wasn’t dead, but he’s going home and the entire patrol had the morale of a mouse in an open pit with a hungry cat. Tale about spooks! – we probably sent out as many rounds in that one half day than we put out in a normal week. And, yeah, we were all scared as crap. And don’t think that doesn’t slow point down enough that enough were threatened enough to have their bayonet or Kay-Bar shoved exactly where you don’t want it shoved – and that got you moving — And that one sniper – just like General Nguyen Giap WAS a GREAT general – and will probably go down in history FAR **FAR** above Westmoreland – and probably his chief deputy Trong Tan will be placed FAR above Westmorelandas as well. We don’t have to ‘like’ someone in order to see their brilliance – think of Rommel — and then thin of Montgomery. Not a doubt in my mind that Rommel was the better of the two – and Paton was just about as even with – perhaps (PERHAPS) even a bit above Rommel in his brilliance.

So – I can see a sniper being exactly what he does very well – hides in shadows, then kills or wounds from behind cover – and lives to tell the tale. I see a well trained FMF Corpsman as a portable physician if you are lucky to have a good one, and as a very good Mobile Intensive Care RN if you have an average one.

I’m all with Moore and how he sees Snipers – and most of you who don’t know much about history and how come we got snipers to start with, and EXACTLY whey they went away after World War II– will understand what he means. I was in Nam long enough to respect only two things more than the United States Marine Corps and the Navy that trained him: 1) Air Cover and 2) Sniper Cover – and following behind them in close order are artillery and large mortars.

So Michael More is has as much right to his opinion as I have to mine, and if you can’t see a fanatic sitting all day and all night without hardly a move in the HOTTEST of days and cooler shivering nights – least he be seen – saving his water just waiting for that exactly right moment to put an RPG into an APC, and empty out a couple of mags of AK rounds into anyone who’d unlucky enough to survive – then you can’t tell a sniper from a hole in the ground —

And remember that ‘opinion’ means an INFORMED and THOUGHTFUL decision. I don’t see a lot of either going on in this discussion in this thread – I see it try to poke it’s head above ground so a few thoughtful people might see how they come to their conclusion – but they draw enough fire I’d think we were in some totalitarian fascist state and not America – the Land where people can think freely and speak their thought freely.

Just because they use EQUIVALENT skill sets doesn’t make them illiterate rag-heads — I’d say that using FAR less than we do they can use that same skill set and equal us makes them at least as equal to us as we are to ourselves. And that says a LOT more about them than it does about us.

And, also for the record – I used to think that the USMC (NAVY) CORPSMAN was THE best trained medial personnel ever fielded by any side in any war I now have to say I think that advantage and distinction goes to the Canadians. And God-DAMN I’m so pro-Corpsman I’m scary at times – so for me to even come close to that means that I’ve done a LOT of reading and have to say – we’ve dropped the ball – not because of the Corpsman in the field, but because of what they are allowed to teach us – And EVERY Corpsman I’ve talked to who’s worked along side the Canadians come away feeling just about the same thing. And the very beginning of the list is an amazing personal tourniquet as required basic issue gear, and POURING in Whole Blood rather than keep forever and a day Plasma – when you are shot you have a LOT more to worry about than having a stroke on the battle field. So even me, from a long-long-long line of Navy with many in the Medical Corps — if I can say someone is better than us – I suspect they are and we have catch-up to play – but I won’t hold to Vietnam where I fought as the Gold Standard – but I will go down a list of skills that matter in the field – and say that if someone has those skill sets, they are snipers – period. And I won’t rank a sniper above or below other skill sets. Want a ship (or plane) to get you where you are going – thank a mechanic. Like air-cover NOW? Thank a Radioman. Rather have your re-supply drop with ammo and not soap in it? There’s a whole line of folks to thank. But I will NOT rank a letter writer or paper stiffer working in Germany as a ‘Veteran’, I PERSONALLY cannot go that far. And I won’t deny PTSD for drone-flyers – but I can’t see how you can EVER get a Bronze w/V sitting in Nevada – and I’m with the Navy on this: if you get a Bronze you get your V – it goes with the territory, otherwise it’s playing with words and splitting hairs. Unless you are in Nevada, then it’s splitting Hares.

So there you go – figure out how come we are so fast to get rid of Snipers from the ranks after a war, and you’ll know what even their commanders thought about them. It ain’t pretty. But it’s true. Then add in your ‘father’ hopefully not moaning around until some Corpsman or a bunch of guys all run out into a snipers line of fire and bring him in — you might appreciate even more what that sniper did to your father – and in turn to your mother, and in turn to you and his entire family. Being pinned down by a sniper is sure a morale booster – now think about being the Marine Down! who’s out there alone, isolated, with about 5 others dead or wounded in a line showing how hard they tried to get to him — and you might have a different way of looking at snipers. And you just might not be wrong. We hated theirs just as much as they hated ours. Same set of skills – both equal – both with the same mission — you figure it out. Good guy Hero – or A** H*** who lives to inflict pain. It’s a mirror – you can’t look at it without looking right back at your Self and your own tactics. IED? BFD — been around since we were insurgents taking on the Entire British Empire – and we were absolutely were NOT on the right side of the law – not even close. We were a Sovereign Nation of Britain and we rose up in rebellion against a LEGAL, LEGITIMATE STATE — and when we could, we’d make ‘enhanced interrogation’ look like a bunch of first graders playing.

Sometime look up what happened once someone was ‘tared and feathered and run out of town on a rail’. Hint: tar doesn’t flow unless it’s hot, it’s easier to tie a person to a post before they are on fire. Feathers make a MUCH better fuze AND a FAR prettier fire than just plain old clothing. Same skill set — who’s the one with Honor and who is he one with DisHonor? I’d say that pretty much is decided by which side you are on. Hell, Cromewll marched through Ireland two weeks ago if you hear an Irish person tell the tale.

MORE than enough said – I want the same right to be wrong as you do. God knows I’ve been wrong too many times for one life – as any veteran will tell you we ALL have our little boxes – some are build out of lies so as to hold the truth better, others are built out of denial – others are steel lock boxes we seldom ever unlock, let alone open to see if the memories are still there. Anyone who wants to shoot first and ask questions later has PROBABLY never seen combat, it’s beyond ANY words, which is why so few mention it.

As far as MM goes – Just because you weren’t there doesn’t mean you don’t know what you are talking about. That would mean unless you were in the Civil War you couldn’t write a history of any battle, if you weren’t in Korea you couldn’t write about the ‘Chinese hordes coming over hills in seemingly unstoppable walls of mass carnage’ – if you weren’t in Iraqistan you could not just write a ‘modern history’ of the war, only veterans who’d been there, pounded ground, and sent rounds down range there could write about that war — and having been in Vietnam I can tell you that there was a WORLD of REAL hurt between Hue and Khe Sanh — if you weren’t there, you can’t write about it? Seems a rather narrow and often bigoted view of any war. How else would we ever know about how the Gulf of Tomkin was made up — or about the Heroic Troops who gallantly defended Mi Li from itself?

You may not agree with him – but let’s try to keep it civil — a sniper can do just as much psychological and physical damage to people as a sapper, yet you don’t see Sappers rise to Sainthood.

But then, all I did was be a Corpsman, I just saved lives as well as I could, and try to not endanger the Marines I was with.

        • steve January 23, 2015, 1:45 am

your response is so thorough i’m sure not many on here will take time to read it. it doesn’t say what they want to hear….. thank you

        • Damon January 26, 2015, 7:25 pm

Wow. Your understanding of historical perspective is amazing. I agree with all you said. The only thing I would add is to your list of the true hero – SAR chopper pilots. To a man, selfless, fearless, faithful. ‘Nuff said.

        • Gordon Eggers June 9, 2015, 8:59 pm

DOC , ease up dude! You are showing one mean PTSD case and you should tag yourself for some R&R. Either you are running for office or a section 8—just slow way down and take in your surrounding–cool down compadre’. We, and my brothers need you more that you need us—-yes I’m a Marine. From that evil era in which we were reborn and/or
rejected—each according to whatever “Z” gram came along. Keep the faith mano’

    • Mark Wynn January 21, 2015, 5:05 pm

“… sat in relative safety ….” ?? Nick, might read up on how US military snipers operate in urban areas controlled by the enemy. Perhaps you’re mixing them up with drone “pilots.”

    • Andrew N. January 21, 2015, 7:04 pm

Relative safety? How about you, as a “Vet” go out with one of these guys? It’s easy, right? They just hop into a Humvee and drive to their position, and pick out their targets from a group, right? You obviously don’t have any idea what snipers do, and how they get it done. If you are a “Vet”, I’m guessing an Admin position in the States, or some other safe locale? Every shot they take leaves a mark on the shooter. To think that the snipers think it’s a game, or keep “score”, you are delusional. They save AMERICAN lives EVERYDAY.

    • OZ January 21, 2015, 7:12 pm

I don’t agree. I applaud your service if in fact you served. But, your perspective is piss poor and you should be ashamed. You might as well call the Airforce a bunch of cowards too. I served on the ground in Iraq. I give our snipers as much respect as any service member. Why you might ask? because of our flag on their arm.

    • Bob Peck January 21, 2015, 8:08 pm

      Nicks,

Yes there is something wrong with stating your opinion when you haven’t actually thought things through. I guess I would say YOU do have the right to make a fool out of YOURSELF but writing your moronic post. YOU are a veteran and YOU choose to condemn the snipers who were assigned to help keep morons like you safe in the field??? So nicks, what is your opinion of the hooded cowards who behead innocent hostages on video?? What is your opinion of taliban who place roadside bombs and hide out of site to kill our troops on patrol??? And what is your opinion of terrorists who recruit women and children to strap on bombs and walk into a public market to kill innocent women and children??? You really haven’t thought this out at all have you moron??? For you to call brave soldiers cowards makes me sick to my stomach. You ought to go bury your head in the sand traitor…

    • James Wentworth January 22, 2015, 11:44 am

War is war. Some folks want to put rules on it. Some rules are idealistically good. The more “ethical” you can get the job done, the better for the survivors on both sides. (Of course the US never fights anyone who follows our rules.) The bottom line is getting the other guy to die for his country, side, beliefs, money, whatever… If you are a better shot, get further away and shoot him. One way of doing it doesn’t make one more ethical or heroic. Anyone who puts in on the line, especially for the right and ethical perspective is due our respect.
Yep, it’s a bummer that a guy can shoot you that you even see or shoot back at. Let’s get out our horses and swords. Chopping the other guys up and feeling the spray of the blood is much more civilized and heroic!

    • frank January 22, 2015, 5:34 pm

I’d like someone to explain what the “safe” part of being a sniper is.

    • DBnotCooper January 25, 2015, 2:54 pm

Nick maybe you should read the book version of the movie. CK kicked in a lot of doors with the Army and Marines. READ THE BOOK then spout your ignorant BS. Or are you to lazy to do the research?

    • larry January 26, 2015, 12:35 pm

That was his job because he was good at it. If not he would be on the front like others. You could say he didn’t deserve to die the way he did either. How is a sniper any different that someone killed by a land mine. How is it different that a suicide bomber or someone beheaded while their hands r tied and they r blindfolded. Snipers arn’t coordinate just because they do their work from far off.

  • Hey Fat Fuk January 20, 2015, 10:32 pm

I bet you wouldn’t be shooting off your fat mouth if CK was still alive – RIP Chris – RIH Mike Moore

  • andy January 20, 2015, 8:52 pm

anyone who repeats this is as guilty as moore. SHHHHHHHHHHH!

  • Ben January 20, 2015, 7:42 pm

    Ugh,
I hate to spend any time thinking about this opportunist, but … 🙁
The nicest thing I can say is that he has a juvenile understanding of what heroes and cowards are. Maybe it is understandable given the personal loss he describes. In my humble opinion, it is at least disingenuous to deny the obvious link between his tweet and the movie. I might even call it cowardly.

Say whatever damn fool thing comes into your head. Good men and women have given their lives to give you that right.

    • Mike January 21, 2015, 2:41 pm

More is an attention whore who runs off at the mouth about things he has no clue what he is spewing his drivel about.
Hey Michael Moore nobody cares what you think so go crawl back under the rock you slithered out from under.

      • Bigjim January 21, 2015, 6:30 pm

There are lunatics on both sides of the fringe. I saw American Sniper last night and was in awe of how the entire theater walked out in silence. My guess is that Kyle would give this lunatic a wry smile and know that his efforts are “right.” I could care less what Michael Moore says.

      • Joe Lammers January 21, 2015, 9:30 pm

You have it about right. Why anyone still pays attention to him is beyond me.

      • Charles Greskovich January 23, 2015, 12:25 pm

Who really cares what Michael Moore thinks? He’s an authority on NOTHING.

    • Keith January 21, 2015, 5:23 pm

Uh, Uncle Lornie died in WW2 well before Mr. MM was born.

      • steve January 23, 2015, 1:40 am

He was stating how his FATHER felt. Is his uncles death any less because it was before he was born…This is just fodder to create more division and people should not just take a stand and start to hate without THINKING….I did not like snipers when I was a kid …I thought they ALL were German. I was wrong and I was wrong about who they were and why they did it. Is it ok to be wrong in American or have a different opinion or do we all have to tow some party line.

        • SteveS. January 25, 2015, 7:21 pm

That’s right, everyone hates snipers because they take you out before you can even see them, except for the guys that trying to stay alive on the front line who’m the sniper is assisting. Everybody hates the enemy sniper mister More but hating our snipers for taking out basis who are trying to kill our brave men and women on the front is just stupid.
God bless our Snipers. Keep our families safe out there. Thank you.

    • norm meyer January 21, 2015, 6:17 pm

mike is just a useless person who has not a bit guts or understand anything involves service other than his whacko ways or wallet

    • jim hilbrant January 21, 2015, 11:36 pm

michael moore isnt worth the ink.

    • Voice of Reason January 26, 2015, 10:00 am

Jenny Craig will give you free program Michael.

    • Bill Atwood January 26, 2015, 10:08 am

I would love to have a fund raiser selling chances to be on a firing squad for Michael Moore. No blind folds or being tied to a post, let him run free and even give him an opportunity to escape. I think people would pay millions for the opportunity to put the low-life scum away.

      • Gordon Eggers June 9, 2015, 8:38 pm

Bill, you missed the point again–I say again as this is another RANT from some uniformed person who missed that
we, the US Servicemen and Women had fought, bled , and died to give him and YOU the ability to make a total fool of yourself and him , in whatever RANT you may make! SO, get off your soapbox and get down on your knees and pray
that not any more snipers , theirs and ours , ever need to shoot a kid again. Fratus Infinitus Marines!!

    • Daniel January 26, 2015, 11:09 am

If snipers are cowards then why does every opposing side do there best to kill them. I have seen a full fire for effect mission at a suspected sniper position. I was in the artillery (105s) and we had our share of snipers to deal with.
Also I had a friend (a sniper) who was often deployed behind enemy lines, stayed in one position till the shot was right then had to make his way to a dust off location. Alone and behind enemy lines…some coward huh?
I guess if you weren’t in combat it’s hard to get it.
