Boyds Gunstocks is far and away the leader in replacement hardwood laminate and solid wood replacement stocks. I own several of their stocks, and am currently working on an M1 Garand project, using a stock I bought from them about a year ago. This year at SHOT, Boyds brought out a new avenue for them, a completely modular and adjustable laminate stock with steel and aluminum parts. Half way between a chassis style stock and a traditional wooden stock, the AT-1 will fill a custom precision rifle niche at a bargain price of under $200.

The tooling should be up within a couple months for the most common rifle project actions, and you can contact Boyds to see about ordering the first stocks out of the gate. The AT-1 stock looks to be taking the advanced features of high end precision stocks and is bringing them down the average budget, in a consistent and weather tolerant laminate.

In my experience, when you order directly from Boyds, they are cutting and staining the stock to your specs, and you get it within a couple weeks. That is why they are able to offer a seemingly infinite combination of finishes and action types, and even contours. Now there is a new finish selection screen when you order a stock at Boyds. Nice stuff check them out.

Don’t buy this if you want the target grip. It isn’t available despite being shown in the majority of pictures. It will be available in the future at an undisclosed price. Nice marketing Boyds!

Yeah sure – a new product from a company with the absolute worst customer service in the industry, possibly the worst in the world. Their quality control went into the toilet a while ago, with lots of stocks going out the door that don’t even come close to fitting the firearms they are supposedly intended for – I know, I have had two. Once you get a problem stock, you have to deal with their awful customer service department – you may get a response and possibly a resolution, but it will take months if calls and e-mails. They suck, pure and simple.
