Moms Demand Action is pushing hard to stop Permitless Carry (aka Constitutional Carry) in the Lone Star State.

The gun control group, funded by billionaire media magnate Michael Bloomberg, announced that it would be releasing online commercials and buying up a full-page ad in a local paper to spread the word about the putative dangers of the Permitless Carry bills HB 1911 and HB 375.

“It is embarrassing that some of our lawmakers are attempting to do away with our current permitting requirements. There’s a reason why a whopping 91 percent of Texans support the License to Carry system – it helps save lives,” said Lisa Epstein, a volunteer with the Texas chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, in a statement.

“These bills are entirely unnecessary and fly in the face of the serious concerns raised by our trusted law enforcement officials,” Epstein continued. “Our LTC system is a crucial tool used by law enforcement to keep our communities safe. If passed and signed into law, these measures would only make it easier for violent criminals to carry hidden, loaded handguns into public spaces we frequent daily with our families.”

Epstein went on to say that Moms Demand Action will continue to raise awareness about the “potentially deadly consequences of these proposed laws” and that “91 percent of Texas voters – including 90 percent of gun owners and 94 percent of permit holders” support the existing issuing system according to a Moms Demand Action Poll.

Alright, let’s cut to the bone of this nonsense. First off, about a dozen states currently have permitless carry laws on the books, including northeastern states like Vermont and New Hampshire. So far, not one has turned into the Wild Wild West. Not one. In fact, Vermont has never had a prohibition or law restricting one’s right to carry a firearm. Last time I checked, Vermont was a pretty safe place to live.

Second, most government agencies oppose Permitless carry ostensibly because it will endanger public safety (even though, like I said, there is little evidence to support that claim) but in actuality, they oppose it because they don’t want to lose the revenue generated by permit fees.  Yes, it has nothing to do with public safety and everything to do with $.

Let me be clear about this. Issuing concealed carry permits has turned into a revenue-generating scheme for state and local municipalities. In Texas, for example, that standard LTC fee is $140. The standard renewal fee is $70. With over 1 million LTC permits in already issued in the Lone Star State we’re talking revenue in excess of $140,000,000 over the life of the program.

Yeah, so you can see why there is an interest in keeping the status quo. As far as the public support for the LTC, the survey by Moms Demand Action is flawed. It included a question that read, “If this permit requirement is removed, it would make it easy for people with no training or with histories of violent criminal behavior to carry handguns in public. Given this, would you… strongly support? Support? Oppose? Or strongly oppose… removing the requirement for a permit to carry handguns in Texas?”

What the survey fails to address is how Permitless Carry makes it “easy” for violent offenders to carry firearms. Federal law already prohibits violent felons, mental defectives, minors, domestic abusers, drug addicts and other prohibited persons from possessing, let alone, carrying firearms. When a violent felon decides to carry a gun, he or she is already breaking federal law!

The capital “T” truth about Texas’ LTC system is that it doesn’t make it harder for a criminal to pick up a gun and put it in their pants. It simply doesn’t. If Joe Criminal wants to carry a gun, he is going to carry a gun. By the same token, removing the LTC wouldn’t make it any easier. Because Joe Criminal is going to do what Joe Criminal wants to do regardless of what the law says. Yet, Moms Demand Action argue that this LTC system is the one law that magically works on Joe Criminal despite all evidence to the contrary.

Put quite simply, when have you ever heard a criminal say, en route to rob a bank, “I left my gun at home because I don’t have a license to carry”? Never.

I am very disappointed that the people sponsoring this article do not have the subject of the “lying, fake, and demo biased media” mentioned much more often. As everyone already knows, the New York Times and Washington Post are totally anti-Trump and anti-Republican and anti-Gun. There is no doubt they would create lies and innuendos intended to cause much damage to President Trump and Republicans. At this time, the Washington Post is spreading the lie that President Trump is giving classified information to visiting Russians. STEP UP and help expose this action by the MEDIA.

    delusional!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Follow the $ and the motivation. What’s Bloomberg going to get from this since he doesn’t live in Texas?

  • PaulWVa May 5, 2017, 3:24 pm

Looks like these ill informed ladies need some education. I guess they want to join California, Illinois, New York and others as the “Victim States”. What part of… “the states with the most restrictive gun laws have the highest crime rates”… don’t these morons get???

I challenge their survey. Let’s see who you spoke with and the questions you asked. Next ask any law enforcement this question: Here is the deal, you cannot charge for any licenses or efforts towards licenses to carry a firearm. NOW, are you in favor of forcing the public you protect having a license or not.

Plus, let’s ask this. Why not make it the same process to get an LTC as getting a driver’s license. No checks, very little control and cars kill more people every year than guns do. Better yet, put the same controls on guns you do on alcohol. Let’s talk about how many people die every month due to alcohol.
All I hear are snowflake tears.

You can attack the polling technique by virtue of the use of the credibility interval vs a confidence interval ( this are not the same validation). The confidence interval is the traditional statistical method that conveys the accuracy of the survey results along with the possible error either way (95% with a + or – 3 % margin of error). Credibility intervals are common with opt-in online polling. Online polling excludes those not having internet access or ability to navigate to the polling site. Phone polls can exclude those not having a phone. Credibility intervals are used in Bayesian statistics and require the pollster to apply the online opt-in results to a model that explains what is observed. The bias underlying this is concerning. So how was the polling conducted? We don’t know. How were the questions tested for bias? We don’t know. I wouldn’t rely on the numbers presented under any circumstances.

~Constitutional Carry allows those with limited finances to protect themselves.
For some, $140 initial fee, $70 renewal, is a lot of money. Some opt for an Out-Of-State non resident permit due to lower cost.
Add the cost of the Class/Training, and it is beyond the reach of our most vulnerable, the poor, elderly, and those on fixed incomes.
Our State Legislators, including the Governor, all carry just by virtue of their elected office.
Its time the ordinary “CITIZEN” should also.

The foundation of the entire liberal-agenda machine is made from lies and distortions. In this instance, Minion Bloomberg is manipulating a group of angry and poorly educated women who, in classic mob fashion, to gather with their torches, whipping them up for a lynching. Every day, the leaders of liberal-agenda machine sink that much further into the depths of depravity. Clearly, they know no bounds when it comes to “the ends justify the means.” These evil SOBs gleefully use grieving mothers, depressed widows/widowers, desperate orphans, or any other vulnerable people to further their agenda and accomplish their twisted goals. Truly, America has no greater foe today than the left-wing political activist.

    • Boz May 5, 2017, 11:40 am

      Absolutely correct!

  • kb31416 May 5, 2017, 9:23 am

Bloomberg and his coven of hags can strut around spending as much of his money as they like, but I doubt that the people of TX will fall for their lies and distortions. Texans are not fools, and any legislator that that sells out his constituents to Bloomberg will likely be an ex-legislator after the next election.

    • Fred Ziffle May 5, 2017, 9:35 am

The problem we face in Texas is the obscene number of West-coast transplants who have occupied Austin, Houston, DFW and other metropolitan areas. They’ve brought their left-wing lunacy with them and they’re destroying Texas with ever increasing success.

  • Rogertc1 May 5, 2017, 9:21 am

Sadly Kalifornia liberals have been moving here and started taking over the great State of Texas.

    • Larry May 5, 2017, 1:05 pm

Yeah, they flee what they have created in their home state because it is so bad & then expect to do the same thing in their new state. They are a bunch of mouth breathing morons.

  • Steven May 5, 2017, 8:26 am

Hope they succeed in passing the bill, It’s bullshit that I have to get a permit to open carry in my car.

  • Steven May 5, 2017, 8:15 am

A lot of members in their chapter.

  • GRA May 5, 2017, 8:13 am

These clowns have no credibility at all. How are we going to trust anything these snowflake liberals whine and holler about, stats they try to quote, when they are as biased and gun-ignorant as they obviously are? Ridiculous.

    • Tim Smith May 5, 2017, 9:26 am

Right on GRA! Anything sponsored by Bloomberg is FAR LEFT BS! Take a look at the shootings in NY City and tell me he has a clue.

  • mike May 5, 2017, 8:04 am

Well, As a TEXAN and a LTC holder, our leg just passed a bill to reduce the fees for licenses and renewals to $40.00 (Gov. pledged to sign it) effective Sept 1, 2017! Just a few days ago, a licensed LTC holder shot dead a violent murderer in a bar… proving once again that a GOOD guy with a gun always stops a BAD guy with a gun! Also, no small fact – criminals – BY DEFINITION – don’t obey any laws. They might as well be holding up signs saying – “I want to be a victim.”

  • steve. May 5, 2017, 7:56 am

These women should look at Chicago and there so call gun control the criminal are doing well if don’t like it here move

  • Judi May 5, 2017, 6:27 am

“If passed and signed into law, these measures would only make it easier for violent criminals to carry hidden, loaded handguns into public spaces we frequent daily with our families.”

What a stupid comment! Lady…. violent criminals don’t care about laws. They’re packing guns even with the LTC system!

  • Terry May 5, 2017, 5:00 am

Bloomberg is a asswipe and the dumb women are going to be so much safer when it passes,….
They don’t get !!!!! We’ve done it the nice sweet way and it’s faileing as usual…..
Handel the guns with some respect for safety….. And the criminal type will think real hard about what their gunna do ….
Now California needs to pull their heads out of there collective asses and catch up…. ….

  • Mark N. May 2, 2017, 8:59 pm

Point well taken. It is the same every day for a felon to carry a gun, as what is illegal now will still be illegal then. The downside to this bill, as I see it, is that it harder for a lawful carrier who does not have a permit on his person to prove to the satisfaction of a beat cop that he is in fact a permitted person should the need arise.

  • Christian May 2, 2017, 12:06 pm

Of course, they make much money with these kinds of bills. When the text mentioned, that no other than Michael Bloomberg has founded “Moms Demand Action” everything was suddenly clear to me (I never knew before who founded them). Do you really believe, that a man whose only care is about money and absolute power would spend so much money on something, without expecting a much bigger income out of it? I have never seen a man like this doing something for any kind of good reason or for charity, except for trying to get more power and/or money.

If the group would have been founded by a normal person like you and me I would have said: “Okay, not my opinion but that is their freedom.” But the fact that a billionaire has founded this group should really ring alarm bells in everybody’s ears!

Otherwise the text already mentions everything well, so I would only repeat myself, if I would carry on writing now, especially when it comes to the facts about “Joe Criminal”. Just two points are missing, which I would like to add: The first is the fact that Joe Criminal will have it a lot easier when his victims are suddenly unarmed because they are still waiting for their license or don’t receive any but still like to be law-abiding citizens. Another fact is that Texas, from the informations I have, is one of the safest states in the USA, due to the fact that quite everybody carries, and not a criminal mess like Chicago with its gun free zones.

Not to be rude, but who marries such fugly women?

    • Will Drider May 2, 2017, 11:50 am

Hubbies are likely to be metrosexual beta-males who don’t own firearms or support gun Rights either. I have never met a pro gun guy who was married to a anti gun woman. Grass roots MDA members are lost souls looking for a social outlet in their otherwise mundane and unaccomplished lives. These are the folks that support gay, imigration, and women’s rights while tryoing to destroy Gun Rights. They are un American and not Patriotic as they clearly do not support the Constitution as written.

      • Manuel May 4, 2017, 5:35 pm

what a silly thing to say. I own 26 firearms of all varieties and my wife hates them, but accepts that I own them and even knows how to use a .38 S&W I bought just for her. By and large, she’s pretty much a democrat thru and thru and I’m ok with that, too.

I have plenty of friends who are gun guys but whose wives don’t care for guns.
Try not to box people in so much. life’s much more enjoyable when everyone you associate with doesn’t hold the exact same life perspective as you do.

I would like to note also, that my wife is attractive and is not fugly like these hose-beasts in the article. Thank god for that.

    • Cam May 4, 2017, 11:55 pm

Looking at the pictures, all I can imagine is they either stole the children or bought them from a child trafficker cause there ain’t a man drunk, desperate, or under enough viagra that they could or would hit that.
