New GLOCK 40! SHOT Show 2015

Who needs an even bigger 10mm GLOCK? I do. That’s who. Talk about stopping power. I had a GLOCK 20 for a couple of months during a review and I was smitten. The heavy hitting 10mm round does some serious damage, and the ergonomics of the GLOCK make managing the recoil less difficult.

The new GLOCK 40 will have a six-inch barrel and an increased capacity. This will make the rounds incrementally more effective and accurate, and give you more of them. If I lived in bear country, this would now be a serious contender.

Shooting the 40 is easier than shooting a 20. Not by much. It still isn’t a gun for the faint of heart. But the recoil is not much more significant than that of a hot .45 ACP. Hold it tightly, and it rocks back instead of up.

The GLOCK 40 won’t be a concealed carry piece for many. It will be a large gun, with a long grip and an even longer barrel. But it will be a rocking open carry gun.

GLOCK MOS. Optics ready GLOCKs.

GLOCK MOS. Optics ready GLOCKs.

The other news out of GLOCK is a welcome addition. They’re now making slides with optics ready mounts milled in, which they’re calling the MOS. Race fans and competitive shooters who want the option of mounting micro red dots now have an easy solution. They’ll be making the slides for a limited number of guns right now, but more should follow.

So there you have it. What happened to all of those predictions running rampant on the web—those that said GLOCK would be releasing a slim, single stack 9mm modeled off of the .380 GLOCK 42’s success? No comment. It isn’t here yet. The notoriously tight-lipped GLOCK won’t say one way or the other.

The MOS system makes mounting easy, but GLOCK didn't have time to sight in the optic, so shooting was a challenge. We were just too eager to shoot it to bother with getting it sighted in.

We won’t be able to buy the Glock 40 in Califexico but because of a widespread epidemic of head-in-ass disease. But the longlides would sell like crazy if they will fit on a Gen 2 Glock 20. Anyone know if that is a workable matchup?

  • Mark Wedrall July 22, 2015, 4:39 am

Will the longslide for the Glock 40 fit the frame for a 2nd generation Glock 20? We won’t be able to get the Glock 40 in Califexico because of rampant liberalism. The longslides would move fast if successfully adaptable.

  • Kadeem May 19, 2015, 7:49 am

Funny, I wonder how many people feel stupid now that the Glock 43 has released and they have that crappy “shield”

    • Jim February 13, 2016, 12:02 pm

      Surely you jest: “crappy” Shield?

  • jonny January 21, 2015, 1:23 pm

When the 42’s were released they had 10,000 ready to ship. The first day they sold over 80,000 and were back logged to hell. This is not a situation glock likes to be in. They know they have to bring it when they release the pocket 9m. They will release one, but not until they have inventory. They know you want it now, but so do a lot of people. It’ll be shot 2016.

  • Toots January 21, 2015, 11:12 am

I like it, i want one! Great for a hunting rig, which does carry over to shtf gun.

Been begging Glock for a single stack sub compact to compete with Kahr for years now. And all they put out is bigger and more useless toys. Slowly shifting my inventory away from Glock. Ruger listens.

Glocks new customer service motto seems to be “You suck and we hate you”.

    • rosswalters January 24, 2015, 5:49 pm

That’s how Glock’s customer service department treated me…like they couldn’t be bothered with my Glock 19 problem. But what irked me was having to pay $72 to ship the firearm to them and they didn’t fix it. Feeding and ejection jams on every magazine even after 300 rounds through Glock factory mags. My $600+ Glock sits in a box in the back of my gun safe.
Never – EVER buy a Made in USA Glock.

  • rayray January 21, 2015, 1:33 am

To much emphasis on this single stack 9mm Glock, I would love to own and shoot it. I’ve got a G22 and got a G42, really enjoy the glock feel … HOWEVER Im also the Proud owner of an S&W 9mm Shield that is Currently my edc. I carry the G42 .380 when the need is right, and my lady is very happy with her Bodyguard 380 … Glock should not be postponing the release of the 9mm to fluff up the G42 sales but if that’s their dance let them enjoy it. I myself will not be getting the single stack 9mm glock until at least a few months of real world feedback from consumers. The market is big enough for All to be satisfied with what there is currently to offer but hey I’m just ray.

  • D January 21, 2015, 1:06 am

I was thinking we’d see a 30S on a Gen4 frame (like they should have done to begin with) but I guess not. Oh well there is always next year. As for the new 10mm, all I can say is I wish Glock would start making practical guns again instead of creating marketing hype that really doesn’t have a practical application for 99.9% of us. Major fail Glock.

    • camoglock January 25, 2015, 3:15 pm

      Its for hunting… idiot

      • Jay March 8, 2016, 9:49 pm

I bought a glock 22. Really like it, but I’ll be immediately trading/selling it and getting one of these.

  • Aaron January 20, 2015, 9:01 pm

I think I like it. I like how the glock 41 balances, & this is a similar idea in 10mm. the main place i carry a 10mm is hiking or hunting. an extra 2″ of slide & barrel won’t hurt open carrying, & will help in sight radius & performance. also, it’s actually lighter than the glock 20… I do wish they would have just made it the 5.3″ barrel like the 41. it looks just a tad stretched out in proportions. this might actually end up as my first glock purchase…

  • AZArchangel55 January 20, 2015, 6:11 pm

I LOVE the MOS (Modular Optic System) but I’m VERY disappointed to learn that GLOCK will NOT be selling the slides separately. As I own a G 34 and a G 41, having the MOS slides would be great, but alas…Glock is GREEDY… $840.00 for any of the 4 new MOS Glocks! (G 34, G 35, G 40 and G 41)
It’s OK though, the cost for the “Burris Fast Fire III” and the adapter plate is only about $330.00 So my G 34 ($550.00) + Burris W/ Plate ($330.00) =$880.00 That is only $40.00 more than the MOS, and you still have to purchase the mini red dot for the new MOS…So I’m ahead about 300 bucks. ($600.00 for 2 guns)

  • SSgt_Mas January 20, 2015, 5:12 pm

Nearly 29oz vs the Glock 20 at over 30oz- so they lengthened the slide and bbl by 1.5″ and now it’s even lighter?? NOT a good thing in the 10mm world.

Be careful shooting real 10mm from doubletap or underwood, because this thing must hav been made thinner in the slide for that kind of weight savings.

    • Mr Brett January 20, 2015, 7:25 pm

McNett, the DoubleTap guy and huge 10mm fan, an apparently a Glock fan too because that’s what he uses to test his semi-auto cartridges, has put over 80,000 rounds through a G20 with no issues, I don’t think an ounce and a half will make a difference on an already hefty gun.

  • Matthew Bodmer January 20, 2015, 4:43 pm

Jesus Christ the whining about a single stack 9mm is reaching incomprehensible levels. When and if Glock make one, good. If they don’t, then buy something else. There are plenty of options in that market.

I don’t particularly like the Glock model 20, but I do like they fact they are active in the market in that caliber, as are some other manufacturers. Glad to see the 10mm alive. Alive and well, that’s probably a stretch, but alive nonetheless.

    • JtothaK January 20, 2015, 6:02 pm

No kidding about the Glock single stack 9 panty twisting. Myself and a lot of other folks carry a Glock 19 without issue in any weather. The only way I don’t carry my trusty G19 is in my pocket but that duty is served by a P238 (or a dozen other potential options) if and when I want to pocket carry.

  • Carl Moss January 20, 2015, 4:11 pm

Don’t understand why glock can’t come up with a silver slide option instead of all black pistols.

  • Revolverdude January 20, 2015, 3:53 pm

I bought a Glock 20 Gen 3, added a 3.5# connector (should have added the Wolff competition spring kit), adjustable night sights and a 6″ stainless barrel and the gun is a blast to shoot and it is very accurate plus it holds 15 rounds. The only thing I wish I had was a platform to add my Burris Fastfire lll. That would be icing on the cake. This new version will have to grow on me- it looks BIG!

    • Mr Brett January 20, 2015, 7:19 pm

Right now Lone Wolf has a special; buy a slide and get a free barrel, not all models included but the G20L (6″) is. I took a Gen3 (non-SF) gave it a LWD 6″ slide, threaded barrel, compensator, one of the adjustable aluminum triggers, Carver Mount with a C-More on top, and did a grip reduction. The reason I went to such an extreme is I wanted a Major Bowling Pin gun. I have yet to take it to a match but it is fast, smooth, and reliable.

  • Mark January 20, 2015, 3:42 pm

Glock should concentrate on a gun with stoping power that fits in a human hand.. Like most of the compition does.

    • John January 20, 2015, 7:31 pm

Glocks fit lots of people with normal size hands…….if they don’t fit your’s there are lots of girly sized pistols out there……not meant to be insult, but you can’t expect every manufacturer to make only little guns because you have little hands .

      • Michael Lewis February 1, 2015, 9:53 pm

Have to disagree with your comment that Glocks fit most normal sized hands. I work the Gun Counter of a shooting sports store and find people with large hands love Gocks, small or even average hands don’t. I see it every day. That said, I find and most people do, find Glock to be an excellent fire arm. Facts are not every product fits every customer —– Mikey

  • ejharb January 20, 2015, 3:40 pm

A gun for alaska n idaho maybe good for sailing the Caribbean too.

  • DoneDeploying January 20, 2015, 2:59 pm

OK….I’ll bite. I am thinking about SEVERAL mission-specific applications that this weapon is tailor-made for, and once the govt contracts are let, the price goes up. With a legacy like the 10mm, stemming out of Col Jeff Cooper’s development of a mid-size round with upgraded ballistics, I think I might be a fan…. regardless of the spokesperson.

    • Wrj January 23, 2015, 11:37 pm

Me too. When and where can I get one, no, make it three. This is the only gun that can replace my glock 22s in my nightstand , glove box, and desk drawer. 22s will be placed in the next 3 most likely places they are needed. I have all the other 1911’s , spring fields , h&k , etc. which I love to shoot. But for the safety of my family and myself it’s a glock! Butt ugly but the most reliable in my opinion. Only problem I see with g40 is that I should have had them long ago!

I own a Glock 30sf and live in CA. I would like to know if I could legally buy a 30s slide for better CC?

    • John January 20, 2015, 7:23 pm

He is not dumb, he is expressing an opinion (read the constitution sometime because you sound like the dumb one) not all people like glock and for good reason they are like concealing a brick and are built way too much of plastic…..again an opinion. People like you scare me, they think they are only ones with the right to an OPINION, a much more dangerous thing than a dumb person carrying any brand gun

  • William E Handy Jr January 20, 2015, 2:17 pm

WHAT is the point of shooting a weapon that is not sighted in? Just to hear the bang? You should have called a cease-fire and demanded a corrective action. I am disappointed in your range ethics/behavior. As a member of the press you have a responsibility to be better that the average firearm enthusiast.

  • NortGeorgiaHunter January 20, 2015, 1:59 pm

I’m glad to see Glock producing a log slide 10MM. At least the’re innovative. The market is full of 9mm and 40 cals and I hate them both. Anyone can make a “me too” single stack 9 or 40.

  • DragonRider January 20, 2015, 1:33 pm

Sid Sauer needs to offer their version in answer to the big Glock. I want a DA/SA in 10mm with a 6-inch barrel. BTW, Sig already has several great single-stacks in 9mm, in particular, the P239 and P290rs.

  • joshua January 20, 2015, 1:21 pm

Well Glock you just made the wife very happy today since I wont be buying anything new from you in 2015. I hope that you get enough 42’s sold so you can release the single stack 9MM and not feel like that .380 was a flop.

  • Larry January 20, 2015, 1:11 pm

A single stack 10mm would allow me to retire my brand new single stack SA XDs 45.

    Please Glock, for Christmas?

  • PitRyder January 20, 2015, 12:43 pm

I too would love to see Glock come out with more single stack options. Not only 9mm but even .40 and .357 Sig should be on their to do list. Hopefully next year that will be their priority. That being said, I love the 10mm, it’s a great cartridge that may not be for everybody but it deserves to continue to grow in popularity. Without Glock the 10mm likely would have faded into obscurity by now so for that I must applaud Glock for producing another Handgun in the less than popular 10mm. Now if only they would come out with a single stack 10mm based off of the G36. I can keep dreaming.

    • Tanya T January 20, 2015, 7:32 pm

a small light thin frame 10mm that would be painful to shoot. the 10mm packs a recoil punch

    • T.Tex January 20, 2015, 7:38 pm

Glock brings profound meaning to the phrase “marketing driven instead of Market driven.”
They’ve taken Perfection to the dumbass realm.

  • AirborneAPB January 20, 2015, 12:18 pm

Seriously? No single stack 9mm? Fine Glock. I’ll get the M&P Shield. I’ve been holding off thinking you’d come out with what we want but now there’s no reason too. Glock’s making some serious mistakes.

    • DP January 20, 2015, 5:00 pm

Ruger LC9s or LC9s Pro. At least ONE company is listening to customer demand.

  • RetiredArmy13F January 20, 2015, 11:59 am

Gunny is paid to like his .40! Hes not a marine anymore, hes an actor and paid spokesman, pay him enough and he’ll like my dad… and nobody likes my dad. While I like the Glocks for the most part. Why go build a pistol with a red dot when the current Glock owner can mount one with ready available aftermarket parts? Oh yeah because S&W did… no original thought here Glock. The single stack 9 or 40 would have been better.

    • Mtwohawks January 20, 2015, 12:18 pm

      Of course Gunny is an actor…and paid spokesperson… and… once a Marine…ALWAYS a Marine.

      • Sargint Rock January 20, 2015, 1:29 pm

        De Oppresso Liber!

        • TVPC58 January 21, 2015, 10:21 am

Hey, “De Oppresso Liber” is the Special Forces credo! Gunny is a Marine…”Semper Fidelis” “Ooh-rah! And BTW, yeah, he’s an actor, but he’s OK by me.

    • Jeff February 28, 2015, 10:34 pm

Once a Marine , Always a Marine ! The Gunny , paid actor or not will always be a Marine . This is still a free country and everybody has there right to there own opinion . I like the G40 . You can sort sand on anything or any topic . This Marine is going to be getting a G40 ASAP . SEMPER FI , GOD BLESS AMERICA !

  • Jon January 20, 2015, 11:28 am

So wait, instead of the single stack 9mm that I know most people reading this will buy we get a huge 10mm? Also some optics ready slides that should have come out years ago? You would think with their profit margin on sales to the public they would give the public what it wants. I would buy the 9mm today but instead I have yet to buy into the glock platform and stay with Springfield.

    • Me January 20, 2015, 11:51 am

Yup, it’s time to give up on a single stack 9mm Glock. Buy the Springfield XDs.

      • John January 20, 2015, 6:47 pm

        Geezer get a grip…..take a xanax….calm down

        John

    • Niko January 20, 2015, 5:15 pm

A 40 short and weak is not a 10mm. Dumb people like you should not buy glocks. Stay with you shit XD. But like they says “read manual before use” so you don’t shoot your eye out. Haha Glock for life…

      • John January 20, 2015, 7:13 pm

      • Steve January 21, 2015, 10:30 am

I believe the 40 that is being referred to is the model number, not the caliber. Think Glock model 40 in 10mm. Confusing yes, but how many people believe that a glock 22 is a .22 caliber firearm?

      • Jon January 26, 2015, 2:35 am

Hey dipshit glock fan, you may want to read the article before you start trying to set someone straight about not understanding what cartrage the glock 40 shoots. They even supplied you videos for God sakes. You obviously not educated enough to comprehend a simple article, which explains why you seem to discount a fine company such as Springfield and feel that only one company makes quality polymer firearms. Haha glock fan fail for life.

        • Jeffry Fanok May 13, 2015, 9:13 pm

I am a big Glock fan. Own several. Favorite include the Glock 32 which is a 357 sig. Which is a 40 cal case bottle necked down to a 9 mm or 38 cal bullet, which translates into a rocket ship.
Next is a Glock 23, which is a compact conceal carry 40 S&W cal.
Then my favorite, a Glock 20SF, which is a 10 mm cannon.
What do all three have in common ? They all use a 40 S&W size brass case. Which means that by simply changing the barrel on my Glock 20, I can fire all three rounds in the same gun. Using the same magazine. Yes, that’s right, I have a 357 sig barrel, a 40 S&W barrel and a 6 inch hunting barrel, all for the same gun.
But I am already on the waiting list at Cabelas , where my wife works in the gun dept. ( what a lucky guy I am)
for the next Glock 40 they get in, along with a MOS sight.
