The National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) is going all out to ensure that Judge Brett Kavanaugh is appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The gun lobby announced this week a seven-figure national and regional ad campaign featuring this pro-Kavanaugh TV ad (see video below).

The crux of the spot is that there are four pro-gun justices and four anti-gun justices on the bench, currently.  Kavanaugh would act as the tie-breaker on 2A issues, siding of course with the good guys.

“The NRA strongly supports Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court because he will protect our constitutional right to keep and bear arms,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director, NRA-ILA. “It’s critical that all pro-Second Amendment voters urge their senators to confirm Judge Kavanaugh.”

Targeting five states with senators who are believed to be on the fence about confirming the 53-year-old D.C. Circuit judge, the regional ad buy is scheduled for Alabama, Alaska, Indiana, North Dakota and West Virginia.

Senators the NRA hopes to influence include Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Doug Jones (D-Alabama), Joe Donnelly (D-Indiana), Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia) and Heidi Heitkamp (D-North Dakota).

“Judge Kavanaugh is a highly qualified nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court. We encourage all senators to listen to the American people and vote in favor of his confirmation,” Cox added.

Meanwhile, Everytown for Gun Safety, which bills promotes itself as the “country’s largest gun violence prevention organization,” bashed the ad, arguing that Kavanaugh would place “gun rights above gun safety.”

“It’s no surprise the NRA is going all-in for Judge Brett Kavanaugh, whose judicial record demonstrates a dangerous view of the Second Amendment that elevates gun rights above public safety,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown in a press release.

Pointing to a 2011 case in which Kavanaugh dissented from a decision upholding D.C.’s prohibition on so-called “assault weapons” and its handgun registration requirement, Everytown worries that Kavanaugh will, if appointed, declare these types of measures unconstitutional.

“This nomination is about whether we want to elevate someone with an extreme view of the Second Amendment to the highest court in the land — a judge who has made clear he would vote to strike down common-sense gun safety laws,” continued Feinblatt. “We will continue to oppose this nomination and stand up for strong gun laws.”

The NRA-ILA ads begin airing this week and will continue through Aug. 27.  Meanwhile, the Senate Judiciary Committee will start the confirmation hearings in September.

I would tell my “Senators” to vote for him if it would do any good, but, unfortunately, they are Feinstein and Harris. It would be like talking to a brick wall and about as effective. Maybe someday I can get out of this God-forsaken state. Or, if I’m really lucky, We will be able to split the state down I5 from the Oregon border to the southern end of the Central Valley and then east to the Arizona border. Unlike the three state split that was proposed and shot down, this split would put almost ALL the liberal snowflake socialist/progressives in the western half and then the eastern half would be a red state. The three-way split that was proposed would have put the three most liberal cities/areas in each of the three states, causing three blue states. Glad that didn’t work out for THEM.

The NRA is right to support Kavanaugh, but I question the spending of “seven figures” on the ad campaign. The money would be better spent on pro-gun Congressional candidates for November. Kavanaugh is likely to be confirmed even without the ads. But, if the Dems take the House, say goodbye to any hopes for gun-rights legislation like 50-State Reciprocity or Hearing Protection Act.
