NRA: ‘We Did Not Say Ban, Confiscate Bump Stocks’

Authors Current Events S.H. Blannelberry

The National Rifle Association is attempting to clarify its position on bump stocks — watch the videos — following an announcement Thursday that the group was in favor of tougher restrictions on the popular accessory.

“The NRA believes that devices designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully-automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations,” said the nation’s gun lobby in the statement.

It further called for the “Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to immediately review whether these devices comply with federal law.”

While that’s not technically supporting Feinstein’s Automatic Gun Fire Protection Act, it is sending mixed messages to members of Congress.  Sometimes it’s not what a person or group says, it’s what they don’t say that tips their hand.  In this case, the lack of specificity is alarming.

What do they mean by “additional regulations?”  Do they want to slap the bump stock with NFA restrictions?  Make it a Class III device?  If so, that’s effectively a ban.

Sure, you can get one if you jump through a million hoops, wait forever and pay $200 to the federal government — and that’s if they aren’t classified as post-’86 machine guns.  But I thought the nation’s gun lobby was against this process precisely because it is tantamount to a ban.

The whole point of the NRA-backed Hearing Protection Act/SHARE Act is to remove suppressors from that unnecessary and burdensome process.  I’d even say unconstitutional process.

When the NFA was passed in 1934, that $200 tax stamp was the rough equivalent to $3,500 today.  The government was telling the common man that machine guns, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns and suppressors are only for elites!  The original intent of the NFA was to keep certain firearms and accessories out of the hands of the people.

But back to bump stocks.  Remember what Alan Korwin says, making lawfully owned firearms and firearm accessories unlawful is infringement.  So, do I need to recount the last four words of the 2A?

Yes, additional regulations on bump stocks are infringement.  Gun shops and department stores all over the country sold these accessories for almost an entire decade with no problems.  Zero.  Some idiot misuses them and now the NRA is jumping on the ban wagon.  Sorry, the “additional regulations” wagon.  I don’t think so.

The NRA has always argued that gun control laws make zero difference.  Bad guys, or to use Wayne’s word, “monsters,” don’t follow the law.  They didn’t in Nice, France, they didn’t in Newtown, Connecticut and they didn’t in Las Vegas, Nevada.  By the organization’s own logic, what do they think further restricting bump stocks will accomplish?

The answer is nothing.  You can easily build a homemade bump stock.  You can also lighten up the trigger pull on your black rifle and achieve a higher rate of fire.  You can install a drop-in auto sear.  You can 3D print a similar device.  You can even bump-fire with a rubber band! The workarounds are endless.  When it comes to criminals, gun bans aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on.  That’s what the NRA has said for years.  Until now.

“The Obama Administration a couple years ago approves this device called a ‘bump stock’ — if you take a look at it, I mean, any look at it, it takes a semi-automatic firearm and makes it perform like a fully-automatic firearm. It makes it function like one. And what the NRA has said is we ought to take a look at that, see if it’s in compliance with federal law and if it’s worthy of additional regulation,” LaPierre told Sean Hannity of Fox News.

Let me circle back to the point about the message it sends to Congress. By leaving the door open for “additional regulations” they’re sending a signal to weak-kneed Republicans that they won’t be penalized for supporting Feinstein’s proposal.  Already too many Republicans have intimated that they would consider the bump stock ban.  Even the president has said he wants to be “part of the conversation.”

What all this adds up to is that bump stocks are going the way of the dodo bird.  The NRA isn’t going to stand in the way of a bipartisan bill that bans them nor are they going to hold a lawmaker’s feet to the fire when he or she votes for it.  I just hope that Chris and Wayne get something in return, like national reciprocity or suppressor deregulation.  If not, they are making a move I’m not sure they can come back from.

THe NRA won\’t survive this, they have filled their pockets instead of fulfilling their duties.

The National RINO Association is the oldest gun control organization in history.

    They supported:

    -National Firearms Act 1934
    -Federal Firearms Act 1938
    -Gun Control Act 1968
    -Brady Act
    -Ammo Restrictions
-NICS (requirement to get permission from government before being able to “legally” purchase a firearms)
-permit/licenses (requirement to get permission from government before being able to “legally” carry a firearm)
    -age restrictions
    -gun free zones
-prosecution of children who talk about guns in schools (or bite Pop-Tarts into gun shapes)
-“fierce prosecution” of people under unconstitutional gun laws
    -etc.

Where Does The Authority to BAN anything come from? In US v Miller the US Supreamr court stated the govt. can’t ban anything (such as alcohol needing the 18th amendment). Congress only had the power to tax such as 1934 NFA $200 tax. May 19th the Feds stoped taking the tax, Hughes amendment to 1986 Firearms Owners Protection Act. An agentcy may not amend the constitution to ban anything. Nor may it write tax legislation. Certainly ex post facto legislation. That also takes property without compensation. Have they gon mad?

  • David Anthony February 23, 2018, 10:08 am

Allowing a potential ban or NFA classification on bump stocks only opens the door for any other idiotic parts scrutinization. Look at the already ridiculous states that have “feature bans” on AR’s and how ridiculous they are. Bump stocks don’t make a weapon fire like an automatic or a machinegun. Those regulated items are designed to feed and fire ammunition continuously with one trigger pull until the trigger is released or the weapon runs out of ammunition. This is a bullshit make liberals happy remedy that will only open the door for them to attack the second amendment even further. Shame on you NRA, you are alienating many of your loyal members and supporters with the mere acknowledgement of the review of bump stocks. You could ban bump stocks today and it wil have ZERO affect on active shooters. Efective and consistent school access policies, physical security and “hardening” of our teaching institutions while eliminating “gun free” zones will go much further to deter active shooters at schools than any ban, reclassification or better background checking can possibly realize, period.

There are those in the NRA, who made a, knee JERK reaction , to the Los Vegas shooting, over the bump stock issue, may have just fractured the NRA.
NRA needs to do a better job of vetting leadership
The policy should be no one offers a public policy position until everyone meets.
The fact of the matter is you can create all the Laws , rules, and regulations you want, there will always
Becca bad person out their that will break those. LAWS, RULES AND REGULATIONS.
99.99% OF THE time Police will not be their in time. It’s never going to happen.
    Remember Stephen Paddock had explosives.
He did shoot at the fuel storage tanks
    For the nearby air port.
To me that hints of radicalization.
    So what do we fo?
We follow the framers of the Constitution’s lead.
Not only did the framers create and crafted the Second Amendment, they also created and crafted the Militia Acts of 1798 I believe it was , every Free white American between the ages of 17 years to 54 years was a member of the Militia.
Keep in mind this act was revised to include all free Men in the Civil War,
And post Spanish~American War around 1908 the Act was retracted and created the National Guard, it was the National Guard and Militia Act of 1908, if I remember correctly, the Acted stated the Federal Government was required to open ranges to the public, and have military instructors their , who would train the public on the arms used by the U.S. ARMED Forces.
We need the National Guard and Militia Act to be enforced.
Next I propose the Following Amendment to the United States Constitution , so as to enhance the 2nd Amendment.
We The People of The Several States, have a Common Right of Self Defense,
It is our Duty and Obligation , derived by God Almighty and the Second Amendment, to defend oneself , ones family and ones neighbor, and ones children from enemies both foreign and domestic , who wish to do us harm.
ALL TAXES on Firearms, Ammunition and associated accessories are herby declared null and void, for they limit ones right of COMMONSELF Defense.

Well then, lets ban the term “confiscate’ relative to guns and “gun things”. It is the camel’s nose under the tent. Let’s just say, “Buy Back” and get “confiscation” off the table, altogether.

  • K B October 17, 2017, 2:28 pm

The bodies were still warm in Las Vegas when the Anti-Gunners jumped upon the “Ban-Wagon”…this is just another typical knee jerk reaction designed to tug on the emotional heartstrings of people right on the heals of a tragic mass murder perpetrated on innocent people enjoying an outdoor concert. There are multiple laws against committing murder and numerous gun control measures such as required Federal background checks and prohibiting people adjudicated as having mental health issues from owning firearms already on the books. What “NEW GUN LAW” would have prevented this deranged man from committing this horrible crime….is it really as simple as “Banning Bump Stocks”? Only “LAW ABIDING” Citizens obey the Laws….”CRIMINALS” Do Not…..If you don’t understand that then ask yourself how well the laws against illegal drugs & alcohol abuse are working? How well do speed limit signs prevent “speeders” or drunk drivers from using our public roadway? This kind of logic is like saying “pencils cause misspelled words” or “water is the cause of drowning”. Only a “Good Guy with a Gun can STOP a Bad Guy with a Gun”. You cannot legislate Evil from the hearts of men, but you can surely limit the amount of violence & mayhem they can cause buy incarceration. The objective here should be to keep these evil doers from committing these kind of horrendous act upon the general population in the first place, not restrict the Liberties of the citizens because of the behavior of criminals in our society. Ben Franklin is attributed to saying: “Those who would give up Liberty for a measure of Security deserve neither”.

The GOA does great work. The NRA might get more done if Wayne LaPierre had the same composure shown by Larry Pratt when questioned by liberal reporters.
On the other hand, few in the mainstream media – indeed mainstream America – know that GOA exists. They would not be as successful as they have been if the NRA didn’t take all the flak..

……If Federal Law dictates that Full auto weapons are restricted and require a special license to operate. I believe that any devise, that in one way or another converts or makes to operate a Semi-Auto to shoot Full Auto, should also fall under the previous mention Federal Law. This doesn’t means that by doing so, you some how will end Evil in Human Nature, Unfortunately it wont!!….

    • Eddie Borden October 17, 2017, 11:58 am

I believe that the original 1986 law should be visited by the current supreme court as to 2nd amendment validity. This would end this conversation for good.

    • 18A4X February 24, 2018, 1:06 pm

A bumpstock does not convert a semi-auto rifle into a selective fire (semi & full auto) military rifle. That it does do is exploit physics and certain features of the firearm’s design to allow the semi-auto cycle to fire more rapidly. It may seem full-auto but in actuality it is much slower. I have been issued selective fire weapons since 1979. What I learned many years ago is that “full-auto” wastes ammo at an alarming rate and very seldom hits your intended target. If you have a widely dispersed target you use a grenade, because there is so much space around your intended target. Today the best trained Army & Air Force units, and especially the Marine Corps (who never used anything else) rely upon aimed semi-auto fire.
A bump-stock is a well engineered accessory that gives its users the ability to pretend they have a full-auto firearm. It also allows them to burn their barrels and wear out their rifle mechanism very quickly. The proposed ban is useless and the NRA’s support of it is the beginning of the slippery slope towards gun confiscation in the USA. The federal government is not dedicated to protecting your 2nd Amendment (or in fact any of your rights). The Bill of Rights is there to protect us from the government. If you believe that the government is there to protect you, only look at the Supreme Court’s interpretations of the Constitution over the last 100 years.

  • NavyVet1959 October 14, 2017, 1:58 pm

The NRA screwed the pooch on this one. They will not be getting anymore of my money. Hopefully, GOA will respect the intentions of the 2nd Amendment where it stated “SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED”. I don’t own a bump fire stock nor do I even have any desire to own one and I find their position on this EXTREMELY offensive. We pay them to fight FOR our rights, NOT AGAINST THEM. Considering how many anti-2nd-Amendment laws they helped craft in their early days, I guess it was naive of us to think that they had changed their spots.

  • David October 14, 2017, 10:49 am

“What all this adds up to is that bump stocks are going the way of the dodo bird.” No, what this means is semi-automatic rifles will go the way of the Dodo bird. If they can be so easily modified to fire like a full auto then obviously the public can’t be trusted with them. NRA fail.

  • Stanbear October 14, 2017, 3:29 am

NRA didn’t say that. Lib press did. Divide and conquer

    • chris October 14, 2017, 6:35 pm

This is their quote…you judge where they stand.
“In the aftermath of the evil and senseless attack in Las Vegas, the American people are looking for answers as to how future tragedies can be prevented.  Unfortunately, the first response from some politicians has been to call for more gun control. Banning guns from law-abiding Americans based on the criminal act of a madman will do nothing to prevent future attacks. This is a fact that has been proven time and again in countries across the world. In Las Vegas, reports indicate that certain devices were used to modify the firearms involved. Despite the fact that the Obama administration approved the sale of bump fire stocks on at least two occasions, the National Rifle Association is calling on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to immediately review whether these devices comply with federal law.  The NRA believes that devices designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully-automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations. In an increasingly dangerous world, the NRA remains focused on our mission: strengthening Americans’ Second Amendment freedom to defend themselves, their families and their communities.  To that end, on behalf of our five million members across the country, we urge Congress to pass National Right-to-Carry reciprocity, which will allow law-abiding Americans to defend themselves and their families from acts of violence.”

  • Stanbear October 14, 2017, 3:23 am

I can see how some folks can subscribe to the “false flag conspiracy theories narratives” ….makes you wonder

  • Doug October 13, 2017, 7:30 pm

This new regulation is setup so far as to include any item the government decides would allow a firearm to operate faster. It can include 1) Bu,p stocks. 2) Trigger assemblies. 3) Magazines over 6 rounds (That’s the fed definition of “high capacity”. 4) Bulk ammo sales or possession. Or, anything else they feel like regulating or banning. I personally don’t care for “Bu,p Fire Stocks”. But the fact is, of they get a new regulation through, It will pave the way for as many BANS as they can squeeze into the bill.
I’m considering scraping my NRA Membership. This kind of garbage has gone too far.

  • Hey October 13, 2017, 7:14 pm

It is one more law to turn a regular working tax paying citizen into a criminal to create more money for the government. So what happens to the people that are already own one? Is the BATF going to get the mailing list from those Bump Fire companies and then use this as an escuse call a gun owner a criminal and take all of his guns, fine him and throw him jail? If they would just permanently lock up the drug users, dealers, some of the pharmaceutical companies and the lobbied FDA we wouldn’t have 99 percent of the criminal activities we have, but the corrupt judicial system will not do it because the criminals in the street influence the next generation to be criminals which grows to create a need for more tax sucking jails, law enforcement, correctional officers, attournies, judges to twist and distort law, more government power. The g is nothing more than the enemy of the people. North Korea,China,Russia,Iran,ISIS has not done more damage to our future prosperity, health and freedom than our own “g”.

Dont give money or support to organizations that tell you they support our 2nd Amendment and remain silent about product bans, May1986, illegal revocation of 2nd Amendment rights without due process. Theyre nothing more than a bunch of lying, sellout lawyers. The NRA is working hard toward a future where every gun owner must purchase gun liability insurance from them. They could care less about your rights. But they love your money. It buys em a nice cushy lifestyle in our nations capitol. Keep your money and tell these scumbag lawyers where to go.

  • Gerald October 13, 2017, 4:11 pm

The NRA is on whole, a group of FUDDS. They are about as useful as a room full of Democrats. What needs to have additional regulations is, the doors to the voting booth, and the door to the room where you sign up to be on the ballot. The current groups of Senators and Representatives are out for two things and two things only. They are there for power and money. Period, end of story. The federal government is corrupt.

  • Charles Kimberl October 13, 2017, 4:10 pm

What the NRA is really trying to do is cover their gutless ass. I am a Life Member but wish the NRA had the guts GOA has.

  • Patrick October 13, 2017, 4:08 pm

Would national reciprocity force everyone who wishes to carry to get a permit? There are now a dozen or so states where permits are no longer required. I live in Kansas, on the Missouri line. No permit required in either state. Never go anywhere else, so reciprocity doesn’t mean much to me. Does anyone really believe that New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts, California or Illinois would actually honor a national reciprocity law? How well did that 1986 Gun Owners’ Protection Act work for travelers passing through those jurisdictions? “Affirmative Defense” still means jail time, court costs, and lawyer fees, as was likely intended. A suppressor would be nice to have, at least on a .22 where it would actually work. In a free America I could trade a bump stock for a suppressor, just like I swapped a book for a record album. But, I can’t see the NRA making that trade, nor should they. I haven’t paid dues to the NRA for 20 years, but they still call from time to time asking for donations. I wonder if I am still carried on the rolls as a “member” when the trumpet their statistics? I ask them how my giving them money is going to stop ideologically committed politicians. No answer. Wouldn’t that be “bribery”. While that is certainly possible, I don’t think the more notorious advocates of citizen disarmament can be swayed in that manner. Otherwise we could simply have bought them off years ago.

  • Gregory Hamilton October 13, 2017, 3:26 pm

I’m afraid of the direction the NRA is heading. They will be seeing no more of my money. They take your dues and then all year long they try to get more money out of you. For what? So they can back down from the people who don’t believe we have 2nd amendment rights! So long NRA, it was almost nice knowing you.

  • Grant Stevens October 13, 2017, 2:30 pm

The NRA caved on the 1968 “Gun Control Act,” and we have been watching our gun rights circle the drain ever since. Apparently, like politicians who violate their oaths of office, the politicized NRA has difficulty comprehending the meaning of “…… shall not be infringed.” Gunowners Of America doesn’t have this problem. If you really want to protect our hard-won Second Amendment, donate to GOA.

  • morris jaskula October 13, 2017, 1:59 pm

BUMP FIRE STOCKS were not DESIGNED TO FACILITATE FULL AUTO FIRE.
THEY WERE ORIGIONALY DESIGNED FOR THOSE UNFORTUNATE FOLKS WHO HAVE PHYSICAL PROBLEMS THAT MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO PULL A TRIGGER AND LIKE TO GO SHOOTING.
UNFORTUNATLY IT HAS BEEN DISCOVERED THAT WITH A FAIR AMOUNT OF PRACTICE IT CAN BE USED TO FIRE FULL AUTO–THAT BEING SAID ITS STILL NOT AS SIMPLE AS PULLING THE TRIGGER ON A MACHIN GUN.I WONT GO INTO THE MECHANICS SO IF YOU WANT MORE INFO GO ON THE COMPUTER AND WATCH THE VIDEOS.
I HAVE ONE SO I SPEAK FROM EXPERIANCE AND WHEN I PURCHASE IT I GOT A LETTER FROM ATF SAYING THAT THIS WAS A LEGAL ITEM TO OWN.
NOW IF THE GUN GRABBER GET THIER WAY ,WHICH I DOUBT WOULD THESE BE GRANDFATHERED IN?????

  • Rogelio Hermosillo October 13, 2017, 1:40 pm

This is a stab in the back for those who have backed the NRA on many issues. These idiotic laws will not change the criminal/terrorist mind, but will chip away at the 2nd amendment. The leftists in the Democratic party are pushing for destruction of our constitutional rights, and our God given rights. even their fearful leader Nancy Pelosi stated that laws would not have prevented a killer from attaining his goal. We are facing yet another assault on our rights and as a veteran having served this nation I understand the slimy politicos who use tragedies to further their socialist/ communist agendas, we do not need more gun control laws but more laws controlling the leftists and socialists in our government.

  • Rouge1 October 13, 2017, 12:22 pm

  • MagnumOpUS October 13, 2017, 11:38 am

Dear NRA, when you find yourself standing on the same podium and speaking the same words into the same microphone as Feinstein, Demtards and RINOs; you should seriously reconsider your belief system.

I’ve stopped my financial support of you some years ago, and wonder what your membership losses have been since you inserted yourself into the narrative after the Mandalay Bay attack with your initially stated rhetoric.

  • Norm Fishler October 13, 2017, 11:01 am

Don’t get your hopes up too high my friends. The NRA has let us down far too many times for me to hold any false hopes of their being some sort of Knight on a White Charger this time around. Somehow/someway, they’ll figure out a way to weasel out of the equation and allow the Bump Stocks to be either banned outright or heavily regulated. Don’t own one, nor have I ever wanted one, but that is not the issue. This is just another slice off the 2A loaf, and just as the NRA’s fingerprints were all over the 1934 NFA and the 1968 GCA, they’ll be here too . . . just a bit harder to discern.

Freedom must have responsibility as Margaret Thatcher Prime Minister of England stated in her visit in 1996 in New York: “The Decalogue-Ten Commandments-are addressed to each and every person. This is the origin of our common humanity and of the sanctity of the individual. Each one has a duty to try to carry out those commandments. You don’t get that in any other political creed…It is personal liberty with personal responsibility.” Margaret Thatcher continued: “Responsibility to your parents, to your children, to your God. This really binds us together in a way that nothing else does. If you accept freedom, you’ve got to have principles about the responsibility. You can’t do this without a biblical foundation.” Margaret Thatcher concluded regarding America: “Your Founding Fathers came over with that. They came over with the doctrines of the New Testament as well as the Old. They looked after one another, not only as a matter of necessity, but as a matter of duty to their God. There is no other country in the world which started that way.”
In the age of terrorism, we face the danger of mass shooting with bump stock therefore in my view it does need more regulation. It should consider as class 3 weaponry because it does shoot like automatic weapon. While it is being talk of regulation, get one while you can. The demand so high right now the manufacture website temporary shut down.
Guns seem to give people power to act negatively. Even in a normal person, it has pull of power from the person to do wrong. Many fell trap into it that’s why you’ve seen people committed crimes once they get a gun. Adding to that, violence on TV, in movies, and video games make it even more worse for people.
Owning anything for the first time is exciting but if you don’t know the purpose of its usage, you can abuse it also. Owning my first gun is exciting for me but through time, it became a common thing. People must not let their feeling caught up with wrongful thinking and behavior with guns. Some think I have a gun so I have the power to dominate others now which is the wild wild west mentality can get themselves or others hurt.
Guns are like any equipment in everyday life; some use for recreational, some use for work, some use for defense of businesses or properties or lives, but it can never use for wreck-less conduct and behavior. We have seen this even in police people that they sometimes use guns wrongly and killed people when it was not necessary. When something is wrongfully use of its purpose, you have another problem at hand.
In the age of terrorism, we have seem police people shooting civilians unjustifiable in many cases; now it has backfired on them and it has produces more issues in society. This is a very good example of misused your guns. Your wrongful actions can lead to further problems not less, a hard lesson learned for police people. Yes, they need to do their job but not using their license to kill and maim people in many cases. This one area might just need some gun control rather than in the civilian world wouldn’t you think?
Well, I have written a lot on gun control issues but the Devil/Satan will have his way eventually and the whole world will be deceived by him and marked with the mark of the beast “666”. Then you will see destruction like never before, he will make Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Mao look like a chore boys because the whole world now are doomed forever with the mark of the beast because they can never be saved. Billions and perhaps tenth of billions will be lost forever.
That’s why we need the Savior Christ Jesus to save us now. Anyone can called on the name of the Lord and shall be saved. “”Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38

  • G. Giant October 13, 2017, 10:58 am

Once again. Proof that NRA is NOT representing gun owners.
What part of “shall not be infringed” do they believe is involved with any restrictions of guns.
Time for all of you to WAKE UP and switch to NAGR.
FACT: When it is in the interest of the elite leaders of NRA, they will SELL YOU OUT.

  • Maha October 13, 2017, 10:45 am

The over-culture in the US has become so liberal, so far to the left, that the conservatives in this country always feel the need to give ground to appease them. Isn’t it better to go on the offensive and ask, “in what way do criminals with guns have anything to do with me, and my right to own guns? What are you suggesting”?
This will never be about “control” with liberals. It will always be about their holy grail, confiscation.

  • DOUG ROSPROY October 13, 2017, 9:48 am

I can’t believe all these internet commandos ragging on the NRA for doing the smartest thing they could have done over the last two weeks. By apearing somewhat reasonable in the eyes of the American public, they deflected some of the outrage about this tragedy in Las Vegas. They have actually given up nothing–they just let the wind out of the Left-wingnuts’ “gun control crisis” so that things could get back to normal a bit before any real legislation takes place.
And since when is inaccurate rapid-fire operation so important that it can’t even be considered for some regulation? Are you saying that we should abandon the NRA because they aren’t trying to overturn the 1937 ban on true automatic weapons? I actually think it might have been wise for authorities to look more closely at a guy who bought 12 bump-stocks in a year’s time.
There is actually a point at which your opinions become too extreme for rational folks to accept, and the idea that a dozen auto-firing high capacity rifles should be available to any nut that wants one is over that line. Wake up and smell some reality!

  • joefoam October 13, 2017, 9:36 am

Wait a second, these guys have collected a bunch of money from me over the years to stop gun restriction laws from being enacted. I was told 40+ years ago that handguns would be banned and that hasn’t happened yet, and I don’t think the NRA can take credit for that. I think they will not get more money from me.

*Just one question: How many Class III Firearms do you have? :”If you;ve got nothin…you’ve got nothin to lose!” Some wise guy said that!

      • J October 13, 2017, 10:47 am

I have several FA including a slide fire stock that has never been pulled out of the box. The NRA needs to stop asking for a new laws. We have plenty of laws already on the books. YOU CAN NOT STOP ALL EVIL. And currently our culture applaud evil. I know most movies I watch have a killings in them.

I wonder if the NRA will be willing to talk about refund the money I paid for my life time membership? Wayne needs to look for another job.

  • shrugger October 13, 2017, 9:25 am

DON’T CARE! Wayne Lapierre HAS TO GO!!

  • Vanns40 October 13, 2017, 9:04 am

“…Sure, you can get one if you jump through a million hoops, wait forever and pay $200 to the federal government….”. No, you can’t. Under the Hughes Amendment, which the NRA caved to, no NEW full auto guns can be transferred to citizens after 1986. Not to mention that ANY Class111 or other would require a serial number and no bump fire device has one. The author should read up on the law.

NRA was trying to do what they always do, maintain the status quo thereby being able to rack in the $$$$. Just ask Wayne if it’s NRA’s goal to have all gun laws repealed. The answer SHOULD be a resounding YES. Not from NRA, they’ll weasel around this all day long.

Before anyone piles on me about this, do we already have laws against murder, rape, robbery & assault with ANY weapon? Do we have further restrictions if you use a truck, baseball bat, rock, steel pipe? Then why do we single out firearms especially when they do nothing but impact the law abiding citizen?

NRA started going off the rails in the late 80’s. They need a course correction. Wayne, Chris and any of their ilk need to go.

  • dan October 13, 2017, 8:43 am

The NRA leadership ie. Chris and Wayne…ARE just like the GOP RINO’s….COMPROMISE on ANY of the BILL OF RIGHTS ….IS….SIDING with the enemies of LIBERTY and FREEDOM…….and even worse than that THEY are, liars and CON men since they make their living OFF of members that TRUSTED them….( most members of the NRA are NOT like these two men..they are true to the 2A)……they should NOW run for CONgress…THEY are showing that they are QUALIFIED……imho

    • Kenny Smith October 13, 2017, 12:21 pm

The NRA is similar to congress now and we need to drain the swamp at NRA !!!!

  • KIM BOST October 13, 2017, 8:14 am

THE N.R.A. HAS GOT THE LAST PENNY THAT THEY WILL EVER GET FROM ME, I’M ASHAMED THAT I AM A MEMBER OF THE N.R.A. AND HAVE DESTROYED EVERYTHING THAT I HAVE THAT HAS A N.R.A. LOGO ON IT, THE NEXT THING THEY WILL WANT THEIR MEMBERS TO DO IS KNEEL TO THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGANCE AND THE NATIONAL ANTHEM ALONG WITH THE NFL PLAYERS AND SPIT ON THE FLAG OF OUR RETURNING VETERANS THAT HAVE DIED FOR THIS COUNTRY

  • Alfred Friend October 13, 2017, 8:13 am

Why is this even being talked about. The ATF originally banned the bump stock. It took quite some time and justification to get them to reverse that ban. Did you hear anything about that? Sounds like our talking points need to change. The best defense is a good offense. Vote them out of office and let them whine to the press after that. We will always be a bunch of bums who don’t care about anything but our guns, so stop listening to the chronic whiners.

  • Jay October 13, 2017, 7:19 am

The NRA better Stand Firm on my human rights to freely choose what ever device, accessory etc…I decide to use with my firearms. If they don’t I personally will rebuke my life membership and they will never see another red cent! There is no compromise of freedoms if you want to keep them as a freedom and not a privilege granted by government!

  • Chuck Matson October 13, 2017, 7:14 am

Bad move by the NRA. They better get their stuff together now.

  • Anthony Martinello October 13, 2017, 6:51 am

Any governmental ban is bad. Just ask the victims of those who live in a state controlled by the Democrats.

    • Jack D October 13, 2017, 8:12 am

I live in IL. Sure we have more stricter laws than NV but we also do not have mass shootings in IL. We are mostly Democrats. Just because we are Democrats does not mean we don’t like guns.

      • Allan Morrison October 13, 2017, 8:55 am

Hey ‘bro, what part of Illinois you from? LaLa county? Come over to Cook county, Illinois to get a handle on mass shootings. Somebody got to LaPierre and Cox. They sold out. Watch out for your friendly neighborhood rats and tyrants.

      • Michael Keim October 13, 2017, 11:58 am

I guess you don’t consider Chicago part of Illinois.

  • Wayne R Cook October 13, 2017, 6:46 am

The NRA may be succombing to the same ill logic libs did, take away the gear. It isn’t the gear, it’s the mindset of criminals which threaten us, not bump stocks, not sawed off shotguns, not even machine guns. AGAIN, criminals do the dirty work. They kill other human beings. What they use are the kitchens, guns, cars, poisons, acids, that normal people know have purposes, but not snuffing lives. It’s evident that we have sick, angry and vengeful people. None of the objects I mentioned are capable of emotion. Nor is the breaker bar in the back of my ‘Burb. When will we learn that people kill with whatever they have at hand?

  • kk October 13, 2017, 6:10 am

when the “cabal” wields supreme power , our “rights” are so fragile that the actions of one deranged individual can send us all scrambling for safe ground…not much of a right now is it?
Dylan roof – “down with the south”…
    Charlottesville – “goodbye free speech”..
    .lunatic in vegas.- ?

how much more can we really afford to give?
we need to stand strong and steadfast while refusing to budge even one inch, unless its to move forward.
and here I thought the nra was a representative of the “the people” ….they are failing miserably if they think they currently represent me or mine..im disgusted with the whole damn rotten mess.

  • Bernard Lounds October 13, 2017, 5:56 am

I will not be renewing my membership to the NRA. They don’t deserve my money.

    • kk October 13, 2017, 6:39 am

yeah I’m thinking same..and I might not be “renewing” my vote in 2020 …time will tell

    • Wayne R Cook October 13, 2017, 6:41 am

Bailing doesn’t add a voice, it subtracts one. Reconsider.

    • Rick October 13, 2017, 7:17 am

I am also extremely disappointed (disgusted) with the NRAs recent failure to defend the 2A. But we have to stand together. Ive contacted the NRA-ILA and voiced my opinion with them. Id suggest every member do the same. The left is trying to divide and conquer. We need to stand together and fight back. Turning our backs on the NRA will not help our fight.

      • Mark October 13, 2017, 12:18 pm

I am not pleased with the NRA’s response but I agree that we need to stand together and make our disappointment with them be known. If you remember in the late 80’s and early 90’s, there was a lot of fractures in the shooting interest groups, politics, and NRA. I believe a lot came from the work Gun Grabbers did at splitting us apart. There were shooters whose primary interest was a type of shooting that didn’t involve “military style” firearms. Many people were being convinced that if they distanced their shooting sport or interest from “military style” firearms and those that collected and shot that type of firearm they would be left alone. The media villanized all militias and worked at separating out these interests as bad. If we hadn’t stood firm, we would have lost and there focus would have gone to outlawing handguns and so on until the ban was complete. We have made some good progress since then and we need to continue to stand together on the 2A. We need to all let the NRA and our representatives know where we stand.

    • Jack D October 13, 2017, 8:14 am

I am not renewing my membership either. They are no longer about the sport, they most about money and politics.

  • John October 11, 2017, 9:44 am

I am well aware of the dangers of trying to be reasonable with people incapable of reason (gun-grabbers).
However, I think Bump-Stocks, trigger wheels, and any other device designed to change the rate of fire of a legal semi-automatic should be banned.

Bump-stocks were designed to simulate full-auto weapons, without the accuracy. I guess sone guys like to pretend they have a full-auto. Sadly, we just found the only practical application for a bump-stick…randomly murdering large numbers of people tightly packed together in an arena or concert venue.

Bump-stocks serve no sporting, or even military purpose. They only feed the fantasys of some, and as the preferred tool for mass murderers. If you want a full auto, move to a state that allows them and buy your own.

    • deanbob October 13, 2017, 6:15 am

Are gun grabbers any different that climate Nazis? Neither refuse to appear in front of a national televised audience to publicly debate either issue.

    • kk October 13, 2017, 6:30 am

dummy dummy DUMMY dummy dummy..before its over we will be shooting tin cans with slingshots while you and the clucking cucks are harping about the elasticity being too strong or the pouches only need to be big enough to hold bb’s ?

    • Edward Glenn October 13, 2017, 10:07 am

We seem to be a minority of two on the comments. I don’t need a machine gun, either, and bump stocks, or it’s equivalent, are my line in the sand. I’ve been an NRA member nearly 50 years, and will continue to support them.

      • Gazzmo October 13, 2017, 6:55 pm

Personally, I think bump stocks are junk and I don’t give a crap if banned.

    • KCshooter October 13, 2017, 8:33 pm

Buffoon. You can bump fire any rifle with practice. The stock only makes it easier.

    • Brian PastNRAlifeMember March 11, 2018, 9:46 am

I think we need to take action on a serious problem in America today. The Department of Transportation web site shows that there are about 30,000 highway fatalities per year in the US. About 10,000 of those deaths involve speeding. Obviously this is a national catastrophe. With one third of innocent deaths being caused by irresponsible people exceeding the posted speed limits the time to act is NOW. We cannot wait another minute to end this national tragedy . No one needs a car that goes over the posted speed limit. For most states that means any vehicle capable of speeds over 70 mph. I propose a ban and retroactive confiscation of ANY vehicle capable of speeds over 70mph AND confiscation of any accessories or modifications expressly intended to modify any car to exceed the 70mph limit. We must do something. This is a good first step for saving the innocent lives of our children.

  • Nemo October 10, 2017, 8:18 pm

Being an old fart has some advantages, especially when some people have short memories. Those old enough might recall what happened during the first Federal ‘assault rifle’ import ban in 1989? They might recall that it was NRA Life Member POTUS George Herbert Walker Bush that signed the legislation into law. And they might recall there was nary a peep from the NRA ‘leadership’ about that.

So much for wanting to seem ‘reasonable’ on the issue by throwing the owners of such firearms under the bus. The gun-grabbers, emboldened by NRA’s seeming lack of testicular fortitude, went on the offensive, culminating in the 1994 ‘assault weapons’ ban. Show weakness, expect them to attack, always.

NRA ‘leadership’ was cucked then, and it’s acting suspiciously like a cuck, now. No more steps backward, NRA! Members don’t pay you dues to ‘make nice’ with totalitarian-minded gun-grabbers; they pay you dues to fight said gun-grabbers like wolverines on steroids!

  • Will Drider October 9, 2017, 12:32 am

The slippery slope: If the BFS status changes because its use allows a increased rate of fire, what happens when you bump fire with just your thumb anchored in a belt loop or pocket! The common denominator is the gun be is pistol or rifle and those products will be targeted forvthe same BFS restriction, registration or ban. We know pros like Jerry M. can dump a mag just as fast but it will not matter because the firearm has always been capable.

I see in the comments here and elsewhere its creating a divide between gun owners based on their obvious firearm preferences and willingness to sacrifice the choices of others. It is foolish to think the gun grabbers will stop, history has shown that in several countries and even in the U.S. where States and Cities imposed restrictions and bans. It would only be a matter of time before the gun grabbers come after you prefered firearm. Whats worse, you know that yet still push you neighbors choices to be sacrificial lambs!

The BATFE screwed up because they did not follow the Law. BFS don’t fire one round per pull of the trigger. The trigger finger does not use its anatomical structure to “pull”: it remains static. For a faster rate of fire: The firearm is moved in forward by the support hand “causing the trigger to impact the stationary trigger finger with enough force and travel distance to release the sear and fire: recoil resets the sear/trigger and continued forward pressure repeats the cycle until ammo runs out, the stationary trigger finger moves from position or forward pressure stops. Replace the trigger finger with a wood dowel fixed in place on the designed trigger “Finger Rest”. Operate as noted above and the firearm will fire the same way and the dowel has no ability to “Pull”. BATFE looked at the device but didn’t consider how it actually interfaces physically with the trigger finger.

Maybe BATFE knew exactly what it was but let it slide into production, knowing that sooner then later gangs armed robbers or a mass murderer would use them. This bring semi-auto firearms into a rate of fire debate for potential restrictions, registration or bans. We know they can’t have a rate of fire issue without the ability to feed the ammo, which brings mags into the targeted items list.

  • Richard Steven Hack October 8, 2017, 5:01 am

If the NRA think they’re going to get a deal, they will be disappointed. Congress will be in no mode to accommodate the NSA on suppressors – not with Killary screaming about it – and reciprocity is unlikely as well. Full auto may well become completely banned and even confiscated.

Trump’s not going to stand in the way of this. He’d have to veto whatever bills are passed and he’d be even more crucified than he is now.

The only way the NRA can come back from this is go full-on attack mode and threaten every Congressman up for reelection in 2018 and 2020 with full-scale opposition to their re-election.

  • Blue Dog October 7, 2017, 7:05 pm

I applaud the NRA for calling for the banning of bump stocks! If one man can rain carnage and destruction from a quarter mile away, then there is something seriously amiss in the liberty/security balance. Nobody needs bump stocks. Nobody needs magazines and clips that hold more than 8 rounds! If America smashed Nazis the first time with semi-automatic rifles that hold 8 rounds in its clip (and it is a clip – the magazine is fixed within the rifle), why do any of us need to simulate fully-automatic fire with 30 round magazines? Why would any of us need a binary trigger or an AR-15 or AK-47 weapon of war?

    • Glenn Branam October 8, 2017, 1:03 pm

That was back in the 1940 and by the way. They had guns that were fully auto with more then 8 rounds look at the mp18 for example. And it was not a bump stock that shot all those people in vegas(may they rip), it was a belt fed machine gun. I own a bump stock and there is no way he could shot like that with one of those. He just had some in his room. They are using it as a excuse to try and ban more of our rights. And they only showed a few of the ar in his room but he had 23 guns. What were the other ones he probably had revolver in there. 6 shots guess we have to ban those as well.

    • Taxx73 October 9, 2017, 12:31 am

The reason we need these things is the same reason that the founding fathers wrote the Second Amendment. To protect ourselves from our own government if and/or when it goes rogue. I will make the decision as to how I want to protect me and mine and if that includes bump stocks and 30 rnd MAGAZINES then so be it. Ammo clips haven’t been used in battle since the Korean war.
      LEAVE OUR RIGHTS ALONE!!!

Speaking as a lifetime member of the NRA I’m disappointed in Cox and LaPierre. I believe them and the rest of the board of directors who agree with this should step down immediately bease they sold out. It’s not just about bump fire stocks it gives legitimacy that the federal government can further restrict our rights at that level who is to say the anti gunners won’t stop there. Prior to it being known a bump fire stock was used in the shooting the antis were calling for gun control and universal background checks we all know what they really want. No compromise plain and simple.

Maybe the NRA is setting up a “prisoner exchange” with the anti-gunners. Bump stocks for suppressor. I don’t think that this is the best move but it might actually get some of the looney left to the discussion table instead of them just trying to just ram their b.s. down our throats. Let them review all they want then if they change their minds we just tell them to go to hell and stand together taking any and all legal means to stop it. We have the government that we need to stop the gun control idiots but we can do better come 2018. Don’t vote democrat or for the rinos do your research and get President Trump the backup he needs to make America great again.

Trump shouldn’t have been trusted in regards to 2A. All we had was his word in that regard his record of being anti 2A outweighs his pro 2A one. He’s even called for a discussion on bump fire stocks.

      • J Bob October 13, 2017, 7:59 am

Benefactor Life Member, given my last dime and ounce of support to that turd shining $4 million dollar man LamePierre. They lve thier coctail parties more than our rights. Cut them off and join a real 2A group like 2A Foundation or GOA, not the shadow of a rights org that the NRA has become!

We need to get a little real…
