One of the hotly debated topics in the Democratic primary between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton is whether gun manufacturers and dealers should be held responsible for the criminal misuse of their products, which is tantamount to asking whether car makers and dealers should be held liable for drunk drivers.

In a nutshell, Sanders says, “no.” Clinton says, “yes.”

Well, a new poll commissioned by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, and conducted by Harper Polling, found that seven out of 10 American voters agree with Bernie in that law-abiding gun dealers and manufacturers shouldn’t bear responsibility for the carnage created by a madman with a gun or an idiot with a gun.

Under a current federal law known as the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), gun dealers and manufacturers have immunity from frivolous lawsuits. But Hillary Clinton wants to change that. One of Clinton’s biggest gun-grabbing goals as a candidate for president is to repeal the PLCAA, which would effectually bankrupt the gun industry as a flood of frivolous lawsuits would be lodged against every gun maker and dealer in the country.

Thankfully, a majority of Americans don’t support the Clinton agenda. According to the poll, 72 percent said the PLCAA “should be kept and we should punish the criminals who commit these acts not the law-abiding manufacturers and retailers of lawful products which get misused.”

Only 26 percent of respondents said that “this law should be repealed because the current protection enables manufacturers and retailers to sell guns to people who shouldn’t have them, because they know they cannot be sued and don’t face any consequences.”

Four percent weren’t sure.

“The concept that an entire industry should not be held liable for the criminal or negligent use of products made and sold legally clearly makes sense to the overwhelming majority of the American public, as these poll results demonstrate,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel.

“We commissioned this poll to help determine where Americans stand. They have told us,” Keane continued. “Now, it’s time for politicians to demonstrate that they have some respect for the good sense of the people and to stop vilifying the hard-working people of an entire industry and exploiting real tragedy that is the result of criminal conduct.”

From an Independent voter. Hillary is a bozo, liar, and an evil person. Bernie may only say what he does now since New York Chuck and California Diane will push Bernie to proceed against the gun industry and those of us that legally own their products. Don’t be blunded by political rhetoric. Remember taxation. They will again try to use that as a 2nd angle to punish the law abiding. Where is this country of OURS headed ?!?!?!

Why not outlaw so-called “gun-free zones”, unless they provide armed security for their defenseless visitors? That would save lives, as most mass shootings happen in “gun-free zones”.

This lunacy by the so called “liberal left” is in fact terrifying. I find the “conservative right” equally terrifying for different reasons. It’s obvious that “if you ain’t rich you ain’t got rights.” the left wants to take away our unalienable right to keep and bear arms and the right wants to take away my social security. I worked my add off for over 50 years and that’s my money and the “conservatives” ain’t taking it. And Hillary can go pound sand cause she ain’t making me a victim by taking my firearms. Both parties work for the corporations and Banksters. So far Bernie makes the most sense. People that quote from the constitution regularly always ignore a phrase that’s repeated multiple times… “For the Common Good” and that means everybody. We all take case of each other. That needs to happen soon or our democratic republic is doomed. Those that use derogatory terms such as pictures need to grow up too. Those that use the term socialist need to learn what socialism means as well. Our system of government has always had socialism as an important aspect of administration. The fact is that any tax revenues used to provide services to the citizenry defined socialism. So we have had socialism since George Washington was president.

Stop vilifying the “liberal left.” I am a “militant liberal.” A well armed liberal!
Yes, the conservative right are a tub of nuts. Not just terrifying, but stupid too.

Then start convincing all your “liberal left” buddies to STOP throwing support behind those of YOUR leaders who want to strip our rights, take away anything that goes “bang” or even “pop”, and propose such useless legislation without telling the full story!

Too bad that our local news does not provide info like this from my neighborhoo

    Home invasion 5d ago

    Edna from Lake Erin

Earlier today a home invasion occurred on Thornridge Dr. 3 black males armed with guns entered the home through a garage door. Unknown to the victims the neighbor across the street saw one of them climbing their steep bank towards the home and immediately called the police. The bad guys surprised the 3 people in the home. One was put in a bathroom and the other 2 were told to lay on the floor. Cash and a watch were taken and one of the guys had gone upstairs. Thanks to a very quick police response, the robbers saw the police car and ran out of the home without injuring anyone. A huge thank you to the neighbor who called the police!

Dekalb Co Police had numerous officers on scene as well as the canine unit and helicopter. Several neighbor saw the three as they ran through yards and the police started an all out ground search. Another neighbor saw the trio laying in a ditch between Livsey Rd and Livsey Woods Dr (directly across from Livsey School) and reportedly held them at gun point as the police arrive! All 3 are now in custody.

A happy ending to a home invasion by armed men. Big kudos to our neighbors and the efforts of the Dekalb Co Police.

I am so thankful to live in this community. This is a story we should see on the news and read about in the paper!

I quit high school in 1968, joined the military, served 1968-69-70 in Vietnam. I did earn my G.E.D. served a 4 year apprenticeship, got a job, got married raised a family have grandchildren. So, I am no, rocket scientist, Lawyer or as I call them “college educated IDIOT”. But, for majority of my 66 years on earth, have lived by common sense. But, to sue a gun dealer or a gun manufacturer for a murder?????? It would be akin to sueing G.M. or Chrysler or Ford, for the MORON who ran into me with his vehicle !!!!

I think the average citizen sees the stupidity of litigation against a manufacturer for the abuse of its products. All bets are off when it comes to Californians though.

    • John May 2, 2016, 1:33 pm

Maybe. I like to think you’re right about that. Unfortunately, the self-righteous rabid dog anti-gun liberals refuse to listen to anything that contradicts their position or even asks them to think an original thought. Facts don’t matter to them, they’re the modern equivalent of the Spanish Inquisition. Just watch them dig in their heels in the face of verifiable evidence and….hate to say it….it’s contagious to almost anyone who hangs around them. If you don’t agree with their flat-world points of view, you are simply “evil” or aligned with the NRA (which is their Satan). They will even lie right to your face in order to bolster an unsupportable position, even when you clearly and politely show them the world is round.
CLINTON SUPPORTERS: You hate our guns? Hate that responsible people can legally own and carry them? Hate that we can see through your lies and twisted logic? Move to England. Move to Australia. Move to Russia. Move to almost any part of the EU. See how well you like the stabbings, beatings, beheadings, assaults, and rapes, and other close-contact crimes that occur well in excess of our own violent personal crime rates. Go. And don’t come back.
