The Motor City Madman is once again, as he likes to call it, “raising hell.” This time, The Nuge caught the ire of the mainstream media for posting a viral video to his Facebook page.
The video is a sophomorically edited clip from a CNN Democratic debate that depicts insurgent candidate Bernie Sanders gunning down the party’s frontrunner Hillary Clinton with a handgun (see video above).
Ted posted the video to his Facebook page this week with a caption, “I got your guncontrol right here bitch!”
Both Media Matters and MSNBC were quick to report on the story, noting that Nugent is a “board member of the NRA” and will deliver a speech at this year’s annual meetings and exhibits in downtown Louisville.
“I can appreciate why it’s tempting to ignore Nugent’s nonsense,” chided Steve Benen of MSNBC. “As entertainers in the public eye go, we’re talking about a guy who hasn’t had a hit single since the Carter administration, so it’s safe to say his cultural relevance has faded into obscurity.”
While Nuge may not have the cultural clout he once did, he still has a faithful and sizable following. To give one an example, on Facebook Nugent has 2.8 million followers. By comparison, Media Matters has approximately 500,000 followers and MSNBC has approximately 1.4 million followers.
So, regardless of whether one likes The Nuge or his political musings, there is one thing that is impossible to deny, when Ted talks, people listen.
