In a recent article in World News Daily, the motor city madman Ted Nugent argued that the real threat to children this summer is not firearms, but backyard swimming pools.

“The Big Lie about guns is that innocent kids are being gunned down or are accidentally shooting each other,” wrote Nugent. “Compared to drowning, gun-related deaths don’t even register.”

Nuge went on to say that children and teens do die of gun-related violence, however “The vast majority of teenagers who die as a result of guns are involved in gangs. They are punks, thugs and street rats who have dropped out of school and let out of their cages over and over again by a so-called ‘justice system’ gone bad.”

It goes without saying but Uncle Ted is correct. When it comes to the death of children, swimming pools are a much bigger threat than firearms. Of course, that doesn’t mean one can be careless with how they secure their guns.

“Parents have the ultimate responsibility to keep their kids safe from harm whether that be in swimming pools, securing their kids properly in cars, or when handling various tools, including guns,” noted Nugent. “Turning this responsibility over to Fedzilla may make some intellectual softballs feel good, but it will do nothing to actually protect any kids from harm.”

Ted is correct, whether we’re talking about firearms or swimming pools, responsibility is what it ultimately comes down to.

We live in a society today were people are unwilling to take responsibility for themselves, for their safety, for their children’s safety. It’s crazy but it’s true. It’s why gun-control advocates make headway in their attempt to enact onerous gun laws. People really believe that the concept of “safety” isn’t created through personal responsibility (one’s capacity to stand and defend oneself) but believe instead that it’s created through greater government oversight and intervention.

Of course, all gun owners know that this line of reasoning is insane, that it is the gateway to the erosion of liberty and to the emergence of government tyranny. Well, most of us anyhow.

    @ Me

Let’s take a deep breath and analyze your hate filled diatribe and look at it closer.

If your argument against Teds commentary is founded on him being a “moron”, then you lose credibility. Regardless of where the message comes from it is still true. The fact even a “moron” can see his message is based on fact doesn’t leave you in a good position arguing against it.

More people die from falls in the home than from a firearm. Yet I don’t see any rush to legislate again it. The same can be said about many things we encounter in our daily lives. You cannot legislate away stupidity. All that can be done is taking personal responsibility for using good judgement and stop asking the government to do it for us.

I know of no one over the mental or physical age of 14 that is “jealous” of Ted Nugent. Spend more than 5 minutes listening to his racist right wing extremist moronic rhetoric or reading anything the Man has written and jealousy becomes the least of anyone’s worries. Nugent is a man straining to obtain & maintain political relevance. For reasons known only to Ted (and sometimes I don’t think he even knows) his mouth outruns any semblance of common sense, common decency or intelligence. (ask his wife) He is a pariah to the Gun/Sporting Community and anyone desperate or stupid enough to reference him does so at their own credibility’s risk. There was a time when people put up with “Uncle Ted” because he reminded everyone of that crazy loud mouthed uncle we all have in our family that can’t seem to help himself at times. That changed the day “Uncle Ted” decided he wanted to be a spokes person/ political loud mouth. The Leadership at the NRA and apparently the author of this article are not doing themselves or their cause any favors allowing this Goofball Clown a stage from which to perform his antics.

Steve, there’s a lot of jealousy with arm chair quarterbacks. So,,,,,, just criticize someone in the lime light for your own inadequacies. Their beef has no substance, just rhetoric.

I always want to ask those that criticize Ted Nugent, “what have you done for 2A rights lately?” Ted Nugent never quits fighting the stupidity of the gun ban crowd. I would submit there is a need for all 2A supporters and some of them need to be just like Ted with no fear to tell it like it is. Too many of the 2A supporters spend most of their time trying not to offend anyone. To heck with political correctness. Some days we need folks to just call STUPID, STUPID!

    Straight from the CDC!
Every day, about ten people die from unintentional drowning. Of these, two are children aged 14 or younger. Drowning ranks fifth among the leading causes of unintentional injury death in the United States. From 2005-2009, there were an average of 3,533 fatal unintentional drownings (non-boating related) annually in the United States — about ten deaths per day. An additional 347 people died each year from drowning in boating-related incidents.
About one in five people who die from drowning are children 14 and younger. For every child who dies from drowning, another five receive emergency department care for nonfatal submersion injuries.
More than 50% of drowning victims treated in emergency departments (EDs) require hospitalization or transfer for further care (compared with a hospitalization rate of about 6% for all unintentional injuries). These nonfatal drowning injuries can cause severe brain damage that may result in long-term disabilities such as memory problems, learning disabilities, and permanent loss of basic functioning (e.g., permanent vegetative state)
Put that in your anti-gun pipe and smoke it!

I did the math a couple months ago and found that my neighbor’s swimming pool is 71 times more dangerous to children than all my guns. What I don’t understand is the hate for Ted. What have you haters done for the cause lately?

How about a link to some stats to back that up?

Good message delivered by the wrong guy.

HOLY COW! That’s it! My next bumper sticker! ” “safety” isn’t created through personal responsibility (one’s capacity to stand and defend oneself) but believe instead that it’s created through greater government oversight and intervention.” Well, maybe a shortened version of it…..but this is the pearl of wisdom of all pearls of wisdom for the “low information voters” and the liberal lefties out there lost in the darkness of ignorance. Seriously! My next bumper sticker will have this on it!

“Safety is created thru personal responsibility….Not greater government oversight!!” I challenge you all to make one and display it proudly!!
