NY Gov. Cuomo Gives Best Argument for Senate to Appoint Kavanaugh to SCOTUS

Gov. Andrew Cuomo pictured with a gun-control advocate over the weekend. “Proud to stand with gun safety advocates and NY’s Congressional Delegation to oppose the confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh,” said the governor on Twitter.  “Judge Kavanaugh is Trump’s latest gift to the NRA. If confirmed, he could roll back gun safety laws & put our communities in danger. We won’t go back.”  (Photo: Twitter)

Any doubt in my mind that Brett Kavanaugh should be confirmed by the U.S. Senate and appointed to the nation’s highest court was instantly erased when I read a letter penned over the weekend by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Why would I care what Cuomo, a hysterically anti-gun politician, thinks?  Because sometimes the ultimate measure of a man is not how much his fanboys love him but how much his enemies fear him.  Make no mistake about it.  Kavanaugh has Cuomo and others (Schumer, Feinstein, etc.) shaking in their boots.

“Today I write to underscore another grave danger represented by the nomination of Judge Kavanaugh,” wrote Cuomo. “Kavanaugh’s judicial record shows that he believes the Constitution gives an unlimited right to carry even the most dangerous assault weapons,” adding, he threatens “to overturn the NY Safe Act and put New Yorkers in danger. He must be stopped.”

Cuomo also writes that the 53-year-old D.C. circuit judge will “attack progressive values,” and will “set the gun safety movement back for generations to come.”

“On behalf of all New Yorkers, I call on you to do everything you can to stop Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation and protect our communities from the scourge of gun violence,” pleads Cuomo.

Wait.  So, let’s get this straight.  Kavanaugh could overturn the woefully misguided NY SAFE Act, declare bans on black rifles unconstitutional, kick the Nannystate movement in the nuts (figuratively speaking, of course) and retard the progress of hoplophobic groups nationwide.  All I can say is, winner, winner chicken dinner!

Yes, all of that is possible.  Not just my take but that of at least one legal expert and political wonk.

“One of the things that’s most worrisome to gun control advocates is that Judge Kavanaugh believes only longstanding gun restrictions are constitutionally permissible, which suggests that novel innovative ways to solve gun violence problems would not be acceptable in Judge Kavanaugh’s view,” said UCLA law professor Adam Winkler in an interview with NPR.

Research fellow Trevor Burrus of the Cato Institute agreed, also telling NPR that with Kavanaugh on the bench the court could strike down “10-day waiting periods, magazine restrictions, assault weapons bans, things like that.”  Burrus cautioned that the only wild card would be Justice Samuel Alito who might be “a little bit less protective of gun rights,” but would “still a reliable vote” in favor of the 2A.

Cuomo’s fear of Kavanaugh is real.  Which makes him the perfect guy for the job.  And as an Empire State resident, I can confidently say to our elected officials in the U.S. Senate that on behalf of all gun-owning New Yorkers you must do everything you can to appoint judge Kavanaugh to SCOTUS.  The future of our safety and right to keep and bear arms depends on it.

Please! Read the man’s decisions! He’s totally bonkers. He apparently thinks the President is like a King, and above our petty little laws. He has ruled that private citizens have no inherent rights (like the Second Amendment) that cannot be waived “..in the interest of the public good…”
This guy is a total mess and in no way a replacement for either Justice, he’s just a Trump stooge.
Remember, this appointment is for LIFE! No Justice, no matter how crazy he might be, has ever been removed for cause. It is not in our interest to seek a one-item Justice for the court; we need to look for someone who is truly a Constitutional scholar and not just a presidential suck-up.

Let’s hope he does, and maybe he can do something for California, too. He can’t take his seat soon enough. Maybe Ginsburg, Kagan, or Sotamayor will leave soon, too, giving Trump another victory against socialism, aka liberalism.

AND, I’m sorry to say that Kavanaugh is a SWAMP DOG RINGER who will turn on us the moment he is sworn in. Looks like a case of “Bre’er Rabbit” if you ask me.

“Cuomo also writes that the 53-year-old D.C. circuit judge will “attack progressive values,” No, that is not what Cuomo the Homo is afraid of, it is the attack on the progressive agenda that he is afraid of.

As a retired police officer, I would earnestly love for democrats to attempt to disarm us. It will take bloodshed, and they , democrats, will be no more.

    • KMacK July 27, 2018, 3:45 pm

The Democrats made a mistake in getting cozy with the crackpot anti-gunners, given. The same thing applies to the Republicans with their support of White Nationalists and Evangelicals.
Political parties of all stripes need votes and will whore themselves to get them. If we want to change the Democrat’s affair-of-convenience with the Anti-Gunners, all we need to do is show them that there are more of us then anti’s and that we’ll vote Democratic if we get the protections we need.
Seriously, we can do this – if we have the will to do so. Parties chase votes – if we can give them those votes, they’ll become Pro-2A overnight.

My greatest fear is that Gov. Cuomo is wrong. I hope Kavanaugh is the most pro gun jurist on the Supreme Court. I guess we all will have to wait and see.

This is the governor granting pardons for violent illegal felons and turning them loose on his constituents. Hope his supporters aren’t the next victims of these criminals.

Can’t wait for him to make it into office. I live in Ithaca NY and this would definitely make me a happy camper. Though getting rid of restricted conceal carry permits would be another thing I’d like to see happen in my state. I waited 10 months to get a conceal carry permit and then had it restricted before I wven took possession of the permit. Total bull in my opinion.
